Man, you've just discovered one of the best alternative rock bands of all times
You're damn right pavel
One of the best bands ever period
And one of the most underrated bands of all time.
If I was told to pick ONE Band to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be RHCP.
THE most versatile alternative band I might say
That smile when you first experiences John Frusciantes guitarmanship! He is an incredible guitarist and I am 200% here for this Red Hot Chili Peppers journey you're embarking on!
this.
Yeah made me smile seeing that reaction , so good to see the power of Johns solo touch people. Best artist that I have ever had the luck of seeing live, just pure energy and emotion and an amazing tone.
As far as I know, the term "Black Summer" refers to the Australian Bushfires in 2020. Flea (the Bassist) has australian roots...
"The Night is dressed like noon" means the nights in Australia were as bright as the day cause of the fires...
@@jonm1926 Exactly! Another good example 👍
the "riding on a headless horse" lyric is a reference to the australian government
@@jonm1926 OHHHHH I GOT IT NOW LOLL
Thank you
“Secret life of roo’” refers to the kangaroo. Line before that he mentions a platypus… both animals in the outback.
"Around The World" It's the band's full scope of musicality/past and present style in one song. And it's a true banger!
The Chili Peppers are the definition of a band that evolves. Them in the 80's and early 90's is almost unrecognizable to the style they have now. Truly open minded musicians. 👌
Honestly, one of few bands I can name that you simply can't go wrong with. You will NEVER be let down and they just keep doing it! 39 years and they make hit after hit after hit.
@@zackmarkham4240 I love the band beyond Mother’s Milk but before then lots that I couldn’t get into
Yay! Moar RHCP!
Give it Away
Under the Bridge
Scar Tissue
Otherisde
Californication
Higher Ground
Soul to Squeeze
Snow
By the Way
Dani California
Omg so many songs! Woot!
Id recommend official videos to see bands creativity and personality. But Higher Ground on Arsenio is awesome too.
YES
Yes!!! As long as he doesn’t look up their Woodstock 99 performance iykyk
Under the Bridge has to be next right?
She has uncovered one of the best alternative rock bands ever!!
The whole stadium Arcade ium album… by the way …. Under the bridge … they have been writing since teens and recording since 1983 🌈❤️🌸🙏
They had an album produced by George Clinton in the 80's. They were super funky and then expanded their sound and became an all time great band.
Under the Bridge, Scar Tissue, Californication, Give it Away….they’re all so good!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
For me, Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik will be one of the greatest albums of all time.
I'm torn between that and Mother's Milk.
I discovered Mother's Milk afterwards...
Their best songs are: "Scar tissue", "Around the world", "Soul to squeeze", "Under the bridge", "Otherside", "Suck my kiss" and many others
Californication surely?
My favourite was always Snow. Dunno why, it just gets right into my heart, direct
Wet sand and road trippin are elite
Encore is another great song.
@@-Gax- snows riff is so good
Some tracks to check out:
Under the Bridge
Give it Away
Scar Tissue
Californication
Snow
Dark Necessities
Strip my Mind
Hey
Wet Sand
As a lifelong RHCP fan it warms my heart to see a new person try and decipher AK lyrics on a first listen😂
Mission impossible😂
Probably most famous for Under the Bridge
They’re a Southern California band. I’ve always loved their music. However, you’ll often fight a losing battle if you try to make sense of of their lyrical messaging. They’re well known for just writing what fits in well with the notes and rhythm. Sometimes they have a message but it’s not a priority of theirs.
And sometimes the song has a really deep meaning to them, but we all interpret it differently! I love dissecting their lyrics to try to figure them out! It's like a brain game! 🤣
Breaking the girl- one of the greatest chillies songs of all time
The Black Summer Australian bushfire season of 2019-2020 burned around 72,000 square miles (186,000 square kilometers). It destroyed over 5,900 buildings (including 2,779 homes) and resulted in the deaths of over 450 Australians, either directly by the fires or from the toxic air. Over three billion animals were killed or displaced.
The Black Summer forest fires showed the extreme effects of climate change in Australia. Here, Red Hot Chili Peppers paint a picture of severe drought and declining platypus numbers to highlight the environmental crisis.
I highly suggest listening to their song "Power of Equality'... and so many others.
Black Summer reminds opening lyrics, for me, reminds me of all the fires in Nevada and California last year when I lived there. I’m sure it means different things to different people.
You'll LOVE the "wording" in Poster Child
The bassist flea is from austrailia,
Black summer is about summers in austrailia, which means forest fire season, therefore black summer, as everythings dark from the smoke,
🌶️❤️🌶️❤️🌶️❤️
and nebulous Sky and refus to cry
I can’t believe they are still creating such good music with the exact same signature sound. It’s so different but it’s so much the same. If you are really not familiar with them, this is actually a good intro. And you have a lot more to hear!
Look into there catalog , worth a look for sure ....chili 🌶️ peppers .....
Do them live at slane castle
My interpretation is this song!!! It's pretty deep! No idea if this is an accurate interpretation, but it's what I came up with...
A lazy rain am I
The skies refuse to cry
Cremation takes its piece of your supply
The night is dressed like noon
∆∆∆Australian fires or California fires from lack of rain. These disasters literally cremated everything and the fires burning at night made it look like day∆∆∆
A sailor spoke too soon
∆∆∆The old sailor's proverb goes, "Red skies at night, sailors delight-
Red skies in the morning sailors take warning------- The sailor spoke too soon when he said red skies at night are a sailors delight because the fires have turn night into noon and fires makes things red and they aren't pleasant when they are burning down the whole state. ∆∆∆
And China's on the dark side of the moon
∆∆∆China literally landed on the dark side of the moon last year∆∆∆
(Hit me now)
Platypus are a few
The secret life of roo
∆∆∆Australian fires∆∆∆
A personality I never knew
(Get it on)
My Greta weighs a ton
∆∆∆Greta is a big personality and her impact on the environment has weighed a ton!∆∆∆ (another lyrics says crater and his dad died last year leaving a crater in his heart and it's weighing him down. This works with the next line nicely)
The archers on the run
My crater weighs a ton
∆∆∆His dad dying left a huge crater in his heart and the sadness weighs heavy on him.
The Archer on the run
His dad was a Sagittarius (The Archer)∆∆∆
And no one stands alone behind the sun
∆∆∆literal translation, we are all in front of the sun∆∆∆
It's been a long time since I made a new friend ∆∆∆ COVID has been lonely.
Waiting on another black summer to end
It's been a long time and you never know when
Waiting on another black summer to end
∆∆∆ Covid lockdown and all the fires in Australia and California and his dad passing away. It all made for a Black Summer∆∆∆
Crack the flaming whip
Sailing on a censorship
∆∆∆ possibly referring to the political atmosphere in the US because everyone is ignited and censored∆∆∆
Riding on a headless horse to make the trip
∆∆∆motorcycle trip∆∆∆
Fantastic job, thank you, cheers from France))
Fleas from austrailia bud,
Black summers about the forest fire season in austrailia, where everything is dark from smoke and fires,
👍👍👍
black Summer...negative..and Sky dark..and nebulous..
not smoke and Fire...i THINK
basing on the amount of HITS they had through their carreer I bet you definitely had listened to them sometime! and I hope know you keep doing it because they´re one the most lovely rock badass bands ever!!!
When Anthony says in the chorus about been alooong time since a made a new friend we all know
and new band??
The rabbit hole of RHCP is deep. So many styles and influences wrapped into one of the best bands of all time.
im pretty sure the song is about the australian wild fires which makes the line about night dressed like noon make sense
You are so articulate and I love hearing you figure out the context of the song!! Looking forward to more of your reviews
I really hope you go down the Red Hot Chili Peppers “rabbit hole.” Sooo much great music from them. “Under The Bridge” “Californication” “Scar Tissue” “Aeroplane” “Dark Necessities” “Dani California”
I would like more of this specific type of content.
You're killing it Boyd, thank you. 💚
I think black summer means every summer in California looks like the apocalypse cuz the air is so smoky that you can never see the sun. Ash is falling from the sky like black snow. It’s been that way every summer in CA for the past few years.
RHCP sounding like old school early 90's
John is back again now
@@Bongsandquotesilike John is back and this one is produced by Rick Rubin. Thats why is sounds so much like Blood Sugar..album.
Yes can’t wait to see you discover more chilis. Liked seeing that smile of appreciation during Johns guitar solo
The RHCP's are one of the best bands.
As for the next song...
I would suggest "By the Way." You will never look at a taxi the same way.
The bands got 40 years of music, some of it truly excellent. This song is brand new. Its ok. Theres plenty better ones
It's about the Australian wild fires, "black summer"
It's an environmental song.
They're from LA.
Plus there's been large wildfires around there too recent years
@Penderyn and nebulous Sky refus to cry 😉
Flea, the bassist was born in Australia and I believe the term black summer comes form the Australian wild fires as that’s what they were coined. Lyrics that support this may be the skies refuse to cry, the night is dressed like noon, platypus are few, plus many other lyrics. I could be wrong though 🤷🏻♂️
Correct bud,
Its about the forest fire season in austrailia, where its constantly dark from the smoke,
Ive heard some wild and wacky theories on the songs meaning,
But you are correct man,
👍👍👍👍
Sky refus to cry...meaning ...Sky dark and nebulous..never..raining
RHCP "Dont Forget Me"!!! Live.....different vibe, great song, great performance!!!
The RHCP are a very worldly, and euphoric sounding band.
I agree with all the songs that people recommending in the comments, but for me,what helped me keep going was "Don't forget me". Man i grew up with those guys and their sound it's still on point
It’s interesting this is your intro to them, they have an amazing catalogue to go through and you’re starting with their newest
Great reaction video, and you have a splendid voice and vocabulary sir. The Red Hot Chili Peppers breakthrough hit that propelled them from obscure, fun zany , 80s rap-punk-funk-rock party band to a global alternative rock band was "Under the bridge" followed by "Give it away" both from the album "blood sugar sex magik'. That album was produced by long time associate Rick Rubin who incidentally also produced "black summer" and the forthcoming album.
Every album has a different vibe I think, but to get a real taste of their roots you should check out some of the 80s music they released. Production and enginering decisions on the first couple of albums didn't really capture the chaotic live energy of the band. Do check out the following tracks from their early years if you can to get a sense of what they were like before commercial success beckoned.
American Ghost Dance
Subway to Venus
Black eyed blonde
Subterranean homesick blues
Hollywood
The band didn't have a singer so their friend used to get up and improvise poetry or rap nonsense at parties and gigs and that's pretty much how they formed the nucleus of what they are. Antony Keidus has moved from shouty rap to actually singing as each album has been made. Enjoy your discovery and I'll be waiting for your next chili reaction.
New song with their old guitarist. Fusciante is just the missing piece of the RHCP. When he's gone something feels off. When he returns, magic happens. It feels like he just renergizes the band and they just make banger after banger. I'm so excited for this new album. Great band, can't go wrong with almost any song in their catalogue.
Thank you for listening to rchp. They like to carry stories from album to the next. They continuously evolve. Originally they are from Michigan but ended up in cali
I love how you just sit back and enjoy the music! the Chillis are my favourite band they been rocking for years and have a punk funk background from cali they started in the 80s but didn't gain fame in the UK unitll the mid 90s from which I first saw them , check out any of there stuff . As for most famous song- Califorinacation .
Also any live performances you look at check out their concert at Slane Castle ! That’s the best
My favourite underrated song of theirs is Wet Sand. Reacting to that one would be amazing.
You remember Bust a Move from the 80's? The person playing bass on the song and in parts of the video was the bassist for this band, Flea.
also, Under the Bridge is their most popular/famous song I think. Soul to Squeeze is maybe a close second. Give it Away, too.
I wish nobody would've told him where they are from... I mean he they DEFINITELY would have told him in a song soon enough!
It's about the 2020 Bush fires in Australia
Black summer means pandemic and his grief for his father.
This song is about california and Australia burning up, his father and pandemic.
The term “black summer”, most simply implied, acts as an allegory for the vocalist going through an extended period of depression. And as revealed in the chorus and outro, the thesis sentiment of this piece revolves around his desire for this season to come to an end, even though it doesn’t appear as if its cessation is anywhere in sight.
... and nebulous.. Sky..of depression..
They are pretty fun to listen to and the music videos can also be fun to watch too. Red Hot is a classic band now
Fun fact: At their first concert after being signed to a label, they were all so stoned on cocaine, they all went out completely naked.
Fun fact #2: Their bassist, Flea, is held as one of the best bass players in history... and is also very talented on the trumpet. You can hear his bass skills centered in A LOT of their songs. My fave that shows his mastery is Dark Necessities. It's my fave RHCP song anyway.
Fun fact #3: They are from Los Angeles, founded in '83.
"Like, where are they from...?"
Ohhhh they'll tell you! Boy will they tell you!
Califonication is a good start one of their best selling albums.
Let me tell you every album they make is soooo different from the others, you have a lot of great music in there. There are great songs from every album spanning over 40 years. First album came out in like '84. This is there newest song from their new album "Unlimited Love" coming out in April!
Famous songs from multiple albums include (by year):
True Men Dont Kill Coyotes -1984
If you want me to stay (S.L.Y and the family stone cover) - 1985
Fight Like a Brave -1987
Me and My Friends -1987
Higher Ground ( Stevie Wonder Cover) -1989
Give it Away -1991
Under The Bridge -1991
Aeroplane -1995
My Friends -1995
Around The World -1999
Californication -1999
Scar Tissue -1999
Otherside -1999
By The Way -2002
Dani California -2006
Snow (Hey Oh) -2006
Tell Me Baby -2006
Dark Necessities -2016
You can't go wrong reacting to ANY OF THESE, I think they are all Bangers. The older ones have more of a Punk Funk sound but the they slowly expanded their style.
The entire Stadium Arcadium album doesnt get enough credit. Ever since I had my daughter Shes Only 18 scares the hell out of me lol. Has me super concsious of raising her with a good head on her shoulders and not just becoming another cliche.
@@jamiew1342 Oh no doubt i love stadium arcadium. The musicianship in it is top tier. I learned like every bassline lol It might be one of my favorite albums of all time
Better break down than I.
Exactly what I experienced.
I was in 7th grade, 1989, and heard Higher Ground bass line and was hooked.
Check out the live version of Venice Queen and Don't Forget Me 😍
Hey man, glad you discovered the Chili Peppers. One of the best bands ever, I think. Mother's Milk you should definitely give a listen, Chad Smith's first album with them, released in 1989.
If you've seen that movie Flight with Denzel Washington, their song "Under the Bridge" is included in the movie.
Anthony Kiedis, the lead vocalist, has stated that though their songs are based on something, the lyrics are for you to interpret how you wish...
How have you not heard any RHCP? This song is nice but they have some absolute BANGERS in their catalogue... Please do more.
Please check out more of their music! My all time favourite 😍
Soul to Squeeze is my favourite song from them.
John is back!
Hilarious that you sincerely asked where they’re from man, they’re notorious for dropping California in a ton of their songs 😂👌
Also loved the smile once Johns guitar solo started to play.
when john solo came up you smilled... you get it
You can't take their songs literal. They use alot of metaphors. But that's cool interpretation can be use in your own way and feeling.
Black Summer refers to the fires in Australia last summer.
I subscribed. I think their signature song is Give it Away or Californication or Under the Bridge or Scar Tissue. They are iconic.
Well, Under the Bridge is probably their most famous song. But other songs you should check out are Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder cover), Fight Like a Brave, Californincation, Me and My Friends, Knock Me Down, Dani California, If You have to Ask, and even Dark Neccessities. I could go on, because they've around since the mid 80s.
I highly recommend Soul To Squeeze! It's my all time fave
Watching Frusciante melt his mind for the first time was awesome!
There is no way he has never heard ANY RHCP songs in his life. Impossible if you live in America.
I'm so glad you're diving into the RHCP pool!! One of the greatest bands of ALL TIME. Now, check out something older that you definitely should know. Give the song Give It Away a listen! And if you want something you've definitely never heard, check out the song Funky Monks.
Growing up in Southern Kaliforniastan I've been blessed with see some great bands starting here... i believe the band members parents were music teachers or a least one member's...from the LBC
Flea's dad was a jazz trumpet player, and flea can play a pretty mean trumpet too
Dude. You’ve never heard of their super famous songs such as “Give it Away, Give it Away, Give it Away, Give it Away Now!” Where were you in the 1990’s ?!? Never heard Flea’s ridiculous bass slap?!? I find this hard to believe!
This song is one I have never heard from them. Must be 🆕
Im so down for a rhcp marathon
I specifically like this specific type of content.
They have been around since 1984. I am 48 and have been listening to them since I was 11 years old. If you have ever seen the original Point Break (Keanu Reaves) movie, you have seen them before. They ae the gang that gets erroneously pegged as The Dead Presidents and get raided. Flea, the bassist, has played on many songs other than with RHCP too. He plays on You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrisette, Bust a Move by Young MC, and many more.
The way you know he knows nothing about them is when he asks where they are from lol.
They are from LA and have a very Californian vibe.
My favorite band! A lot of their lyrics are random its a vibe
That look during Frusciantes's guitar solo..... that's how I feel inside when I hear RHCP.
Should check out Stadium Arcadium. Its my favorite song. Or "Hey Oh."
I cant imagine a world where someone doesn't know who the chili peppers are ...I've been to 3 of their concerts, they were all sold out and im just a no one from WV 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Love you MrBoyd... and so glad you found the chili peppers.
The more you listen to them the more you love them.
Try "Californication" and "my friends" ....so awesome 👌
Watching you do your dive on System of a Down made me excited to see you do the same for the Peppers. This is a great track, but the Slane Castle concert will get you where you're going in one concert. Covers a lot of their best work with John Frusciante. You responded to him quite a bit in this video. All great stuff, but Slane took place in 2004 when they were all physically younger, so you had some high energy and hitting their stride musically. Hope you circle back and check some of that out.
Take a listen to the Stadium Arcadium album. A lot of good songs , different styles .
GIVE IT AWAY is their most famous song.
You’ve definitely heard it in passing.
Weird Al did a parody of it and their other biggest hit, UNDER THE BRIDGE in the same song. It’s called BEDROCK ANTHEM.
LMAO, you broke me with "free real estate"
New song. Poster Child. It's a blast
i also love "The adventures of Raindance Maggie"
My Friends and Soul to Squeeze
Californication Slane Castle performance to see their true chemistry/artistry live!
Californication - live slane castle. Also don’t forget me live as well
Please react to “Under The Bridge”, the band is just LEGENDARY
Black summer is refering to bushfires in australia in 2020. The country was "riding on a headless horse" because the prime minister of austalia decided to go to the vacations. Night dressed like a moon..., the sky refused to cryy...etc.
Sorry for my english. Im Polish
Sky refus to cry...😕... waiting to End.. Summer nebulous and negative.. waiting for the sun or Moon .. maybe..🤔
Depends on the time period, but their songs "Californication", "Dani California", and "Snow" have all been quite popular. They have a TON of songs that have done very well. Their genre's have changed a bunch too depending on the album. They kind of always have a punk/rock/funk vibe, but they have some hip hop inspired works too. I know you like horns, so I'd recommend "hump de bump" as well!
Their one of the most successful rock band ever
Californication Live at Slane Castle
wet sand is my fav rhcp song
