So... Remember how I said I was going to make the scrolls? Well, after a hiccup with one of the necks that "needed" a graft, it took me a few days to carve both scrolls.. I really do enjoy it way too much, couldn't stop myself... But I was meant to be doing the necks right now, but haven't been able to. I was sent fingerboard blanks that were just way too narrow, so I'm kinda stuck till I can get new ones... So in short, super jealous seeing you work on all this, even though I know it's been done for a long while :-P It's so satisfying to see you work, you know that? Your control is inspiring... What thicknesses do you aim for when measuring here?
Good to hear that you're done with the scrolls but that's so annoying about the blanks! I can't imagine how they did it wrong as I'd assume it's machine made... I think the blackmagic makes it more satisfying to watch haha. I'm assuming final neck thickness? at the top around 18.5 and 21-20.5 at the bottom...
It really is annoying, since I'm now done with edgework and everything, so I'm very stuck until I get new ones... It's definitely machine made, but with sloppy margins. I gotta say, as much as I like Dictum, they're quite messy sometimes. Wood blanks are often just a little bit small, making them difficult to work with, I have had backorder items arrive like 5 months late 4 or 5 times now etc... They're a nice company, but not to be trusted blindly. I think good sharpening and the black magic of your skilled hands makes it satisfying :-P And thanks! I'll see how that compares to my previous measurements :-)
@@Tostra1997 I didn't know that they made that kind of mistakes. I only got things from them a couple of times (tools) and I never had any issues, so it's good to know!
@@LucasFabro Yeah... No, I've had it with tools as well, but it's much worse with wood. They can have long backorder waits on everything, but I've never got a tool from them that was bad. I've definitely had more positive experiences with them than bad ones, and they do try to fix their mistakes, but like... One time I got a neck blank that was too narrow to make a scroll out of, sent it back and after a long ass wait I received the exact same next blank back in the mail from them. So just... Be aware, yes :-P

Thank you for continuing to be real in a world of plastic. I admire your work.
Thank you very much!! Fortunately we're still quite a lot passionate about woodworking!
I just love watching this violin come to life.
Thanks!! Only a few more steps to make (edit actually haha)
Great, Lucas! I wish you success!
Oh, thank you very much, that's so nice!!!
Likewise to you!
Maple is a beautiful wood.
It is indeed! And this one in particular!
