I got the volume 1 book at Walmart thinking it would be sad but not too sad. The Christian symbolism is much earlier than that. When he jumps into the water, he swims down and sees all the death, violence, and hate which has overtaken him throughout his entire life. When he comes up out of the water, for the first time he sees color, light, life, hope. It’s so blatantly reminiscent of Baptism (Romans 6:3-4). It shows the Lamb (Which is Jesus [John 1:29]), it shows the Lamb (Jesus) crushing the head of the snake (Satan, which is what was promised in the Protoevangelium of Genesis 3:15). If shows the crown of thorns (Matthew 27:29). It shows the blood (Ephesians 1:7), etc. This symbolism was so blatantly obvious that reading it literally made me have an epiphany where I broke down crying, which led me to revert back to the Catholic Faith. The Horizon is how I found my way back to Jesus Christ. Sucks that almost nobody realizes how Christian it really is
Deadtube, dokumushi, metamorphosis maybe are mangas that people shouldnt get into, The Horizon in fact bears such a beautiful story of love, hope and 'moving forward' given that You try to understand the story and not dwell on the boy's experiences
