Amazingly, 2 of the Nazgul survived the fall of Sauron, but obviously had to give up Nazguling. They later, ironically, became famous illustrators of Tolkien's works (Hollow-Place John, and Sheltered Alan). That, by the way, is probably why their illustrations seem so authentic. True Fact!
The Elven Rings' power began to fade with the destruction of the one, but it didn't disappear all at once. The immediate consequence of the destruction of the one is they could no longer be hidden from the sight of others, and became plainly visible.
Then Gollum kissed him and asked him to marry him, by holding up the one ring so they could be the most “PRECIOUS” couple ever, and rule the world as a split personality zombie like hobbit and dude that will totally kill u if u hiccup around him when he’s upset. I’m liking this, Gollum and Sauron could be the best new buddy comedy on CBS’s Friday night line up
It's believed that it does, this is why when Isildur tried to escape in the river, the ring 'expanded' and slipped off his finger, which resulted in his death as he turned visible and was shot by arrows. Though from the way I understand it, the ring chooses to change its sizes, and it doesn't adjust to it's wearer.
If you notice, in the first movie after Isildur cuts the ring from Saurons hand, he pick up the ring and examines it, as he's does so you can see the ring shrink to isildurs size and start to call his name.
The ring has a mind and will of its own, so it might fashion itself to fit the ring of its current owner, but the ring might find the owner had served his usefulness and might try to abandon him by becoming bigger. Question: had Boromir actually touched the ring, would he then become utterly consumed with possessing it that he would then put it on? I think had he done so, Frodo would have gone mad and attacked Boromir for stealing his “precious” (even though Frodo never called it that). When Frodo attacked Gollum after Gollum but off his finger is one of best invented dramatic scenes by Jackson in ROTK; usually Jackson’s deletion of drama from the original source material and adding off-script drama leaving one wondering - WTF...?
Technically there were much lesser lesser rings with no stones, that appeared the same as the One Ring (When not in fire) all below the seven-and-nine.
so, despite the evil that the rings and even the one ring has brought to middle earth ..there were good things too that was benefited out from it out from evil ..for the three rings given to the elves brought power, prosperity and magic which they enjoyed when the one ring was still undestroyed .
What I would like to see in a video is healing in MIddle Earth. Herbs, like Athelas, magic like Elrond's healing abilities. Could Gandalf heal? Galadriel? Elisar? So much healing, tell us all about it! Including substances like lambas and elf-draught.
It is a misconception that the 16 were the "lesser rings." All 19 were given originally to elven leaders. The 3 were forged without Saurons touch and were the only ones he didn't win back through war. It is never explicitly stated that the 16 are the "essays in the craft" of ring making mentioned by Gandalf. In fact they are almost certainly not said lesser rings because Gandalf dismisses the lesser rings as trifles while he places special emphasis on the 7 and 9
Makes me wonder that, since Sauron didn't touch the eleven rings, they sensed Sauron's plan when he put on The One Ring and uttered the Ring Spell (One Ring to rule them All etc) and took off their rings before they could be corrupted, IF he was present at the forging and handled them, would they have been easier corrupted and therefore fall as The Kings of Men did?
Here's my feedback: I love these videos, great stuff! Just a small observation though; in the video about Galadriel you say: "...wielder of Nenya, the strongest of the three Elven rings", whereas in this video you say that Vilya is the mightiest of the three. But again of course, great job, keep it up please!
Ah yes, I corrected that in the description of the Galadriel video! Vilya is the strongest, I just always associated Galadriel's ring with that of air while Vilya with water, when infact Nenya is that of water, and Vilya of Air! :)
I have been an avid fan of your videos since I discovered them on UA-cam. I am no Lore Master, merely a savant; but I have two questions regarding the rings of power. 1. When Gandalf was captured by Saruman, was he wearing the Elven ring of Fire? If so, why didn't Saruman take it? 2. In appendix A of Lord of the Rings, chapter 3 'Durin's Folk', page 1051(of my edition) it says: "The only power over them that the Rings wielded was to inflame their hearts with greed of gold and precious things, so that if they lacked them all other things seemed profitless, and they were filled with wrath and desire for vengeance on all who deprived them. But they were made from their beginning of a kind to resist most steadfastly any domination. Though they could be slain or broken, they could not be reduced to shadows enslaved to another will; and for the same reason their lives were not affected by any Ring, to live either longer or shorter because of it. " So why couldn't a dwarf be a ring bearer of the one ring if they were indeed resistant to its overall power? From this it would appear that the dwarf was indeed made as a better ring bearer than a hobbit. It would also seem possible from this quote that the dwarfs like Tom Bombadil were immune from the power of the rings of power overall intent.
Nenya (the ring of water) did not instill in Galadriel a longing for the sea. Elves naturally succumb to this overtime, not all of them - mind you, but many did. Perhaps, Nenya strengthened this longing, but it is naturally there for all elves.
It was my understanding the Glorfindel was the one who caused the water to wash away the Nazgûl and prevent them from capturing Frodo or entering Rivendell. It's been a few months since I read the Fellowship, but I do recall it saying that it was Glorfindel, appearing as a true elf-lord, who called that rush of horse-water.
Yeah, great video! I was just wondering if the reason why the elven ring bearers were not corrupted by the one ring was because sauront didn't participate in their creation and therefore can't affect their wearers, or because they took off their rings, as you said at one point in the video? Thank you!
It seems that elven rings didn't have his corruption in them, however somehow he could still read their users' minds and know their thoughts if Sauron had the One Ring in his possession. This is why after the creation of the one Ring, the Elves quickly removed their rings to prevent this :)
At their initial creation all 19 Great Rings were Elvish rings; the misconception is that only the Three weren't touched by Sauron and so the bearers of the Three were able to remove their rings, but this is incorrect. When Sauron first put on the One all of the 19 were being worn by Elves. Sauron hadn't counted on the "subtle perceptions of the Elves". ALL of the Elves wearing ALL 19 rings perceived Sauron's intentions and they ALL removed their rings.
AlphaZaku Are you sure about that? Isn’t it stated that originally 16 rings were created by Celebrimbor and Sauron together and then Celebrimbor crafted 3 more on his own. When Sauron forged the 1 ring he attacked Eriador and stole the 16 rings.
TheFawly84 What you wrote is correct, but and in no way conflicts with what I explained. The Three were made in secret and hidden before Sauron could claim them. He was only able to take the 16 when he attacked Eregion.
Ring of power = router :P You have a power within yourself but your purpose is to project authority and to enforce your subordinates (Arm Rings - Norse mythology)-> They create an aura of authority for the subjects/realms to be influenced by it. Elven rings -> Elven realms Sauron -> Mordor, The Nine and The Seven - their respective human and dwarven kingdoms. Saruman -> Isengard. The scheme with 1-3-7-9 was more complicated, but all the same. And respectively every ring projects something based on its nature - we all know fire, water, air rings of the Elves - since they are pure made. The 9 rings I could refer to the warhammer aspects of the Nazguls - Dark Marshal, The Betrayer, The Undying etc...
i often wondered what ring Gandalf belived that Bilbo had since he didnt expect it to be the one ring from the beggining...i wonder if there were less powerfull rings than these ones that they made before them that sill might have made the wearer invisible
When asked why I watch lore videos I reply: Understand all life is coexisting eternally yet each situation is fundamentally different and it's simple to see how this information is priceless yet somewhat irrelevant if not in it's right place, and as is said 'things are what they are,' + or - God's will and/in/about everything else.
Call me crazy, but I've noticed similarities between the elven rings and the Valar, specifically, Aule, Ulmo, and Manwe. Now this is all a very loose observation, but roll with me on this. A ring for earth or fire (Narya) connected to Aule, one for water (Nenya) connected to Ulmo, and air (Vilya) for Manwe. Narya inspires courage, and like the Dwarves, were made specifically to be incorruptible by Morgoth and more resistant to fire. Nenya is the ring of water or adamant, like Ulmo, never ceased in his contention with Morgoth and his servants. Like Galadriel could see into the minds of others as Ulmo would give visions or warnings. Whether that was a natural ability she had or was gifted by her ring, I'm not 100 on. Finally with Vilya the ring of air, Elrond was known to has great foresight, from the ring or not I don't know, like Galadriel and her telepathy. However it is known that when Manwe stood atop his mountain with Varda he could see farther than any. I know some of this might be too much of a stretch, but it shows how deep the literature can be. Always a thumbs up in my book. What say you?
Power rises and falls,so at some times Souron's power was at it's fullest Might, maybe on a certain night when Dark Forces were strong and he'd sacrificed 100 vigins or children or whatever Dark Lord's do to gain power, the point being that when his power was naturally at it's highest he was able to multiply it and capture it and place it in his Ring that would keep it at that level, don't forget that he poured an Enormous amount of his own original Power/Self into the Ring,so even if he'd been at a low point like one of the times he'd lost his physical forms and was weak if he'd had the Ring he could have manifested it's Power and been again one of the strongest Mair in Middle Earth..just how I see it and I've studied Middle Earth for a few decades;)It is a bit of a wonder why the Valar didn't just send Tulkas or Orome to wipe him out/assassinate him and could have saved so much life and prevented so much destruction but I guess they figured it was all part of Eru's plan and that was the difference between the Valar and Souron/Melkor,the Valar trusted in the Faith that Eru would see all things come to fruition, while Souron and Melkor thought they knew better and would have Order according to what they felt was wisdom, just like all murderous megalomaniacs, and as Geekzone has stated in other vids it would have made a pretty short story but one could make the argument that in the War of Wrath they missed Souron as he hid in the pits of Thangorodrim and so they had the Right to go back and put his head on a pike;)I wish Tolkien had lived longer to give more about the end of days when Melkor and Souron returned from Death and the Void for the final war:(Anyways sorry for writing a short novel but if it helps someone whose passionate about LOTR lore learn more than I've done a good thing:)And Thank You Geekzone your channel has been a Great Source of info in Many areas,I first read The Hobbit/LOTR in 1987 and the internet wasn't around yet so I had to Read books to gain knowledge and Christopher Tolkien hadn't published much on his Father's work yet....
I think its bcs they we're still made by using saurons techniques, and they still do have a connection to the one ring, albeit a weaker one. And they didn't lose power immediately, their powers only began to fade, the immediate consequence of destroying the ine ring that impacted the 3 is that the users weren't able to hide them anymore.
im not sure...but i somewhat feel that there were more rings made in the begining...and not "only" the 16 rings that were given to men and dwarfs. Gandalf touches the subject talking about it to Frodo...but the first rings made were not as powerfull but still dangerous in the hands of mortals as he puts it. If he only had the 16 rings to consider its a marvel that he didnt make out that the ring Bilbo had was the master ring.
I wanna hear more about Aule, he seemed to send two beings to middle earth, that could’ve been the destruction of that world, was his intent to destroy middle earth without manwe discovering his true intentions
It would've been unfair is he was punished for his servants/student's actions, if that was the case, manwhe would also be in suspicion bcs of him choosing saruman.
I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure, that names, that strarts with letter C, should be pronounced at the beginnig with K and not an S. So the right pronunciation should be Kírdan just like you have done with Celebrimbor.

Did the ring change sizes? How was it small enough to fit hobbits and simultaneously large enough to fit Sauron, who was larger in stature then any man or elf.
It's believed that Sauron had taken them back in his position after they became the ringwraiths. I cover this a bit in my 'Could Frodo Control the Nazgul' video if you want to check it out :)

Question - Sauron is essentially a Satan like figure, therefore his Ring is unholy. Couldn't someone the Flame Imperishable (i.e. Holy Fire) to destroy the One Ring?
I am pretty sure I heard somewhere that Mount Doom is a gateway to the heart of the earth, where the Flame Imperishable is stored. So in a way it could have been what destroyed the ring.
Actually Melkor/Morgoth was the Satan of the realms of Middle Earth and Arda, where Souron was more of the Right Hand of the Devil;)I would think that someone like Gandalf or Elrond or one of the greats couldn't destroy the one ring as they were Servants of the Imperishable Flame and couldn't use it,Melkor in his beginning had searched the Void for the the Flame but could never find it because it was IN Eru and it's without doubt he (Eru) could have destroyed the Ring,Souron,Barad Dur or pretty much anything else with or without the Flame by just a snap of his finger if he chose to get directly involved,it was He that the Valar called when the Numenoreans went to attack Arda, and that fleet/army was the Greatest force ever known in those realms from the beginning of time till past Frodos days, and it's implied that Arda called on Eru because the Numenorean Fleet/Army may have actually conquered Arda but when Eru came the Numenorean Force was Completely Destroyed and the story goes that the King at that time is still buried alive on the shores of Arda and will stay that way till the end of time for attacking the Blessed Realm,so if Eru could do these things Im sure he could have destroyed the Ring by just thinking it....
@@CH-wp5hp Sorry that's incorrect,The Flame is within Eru and that's why Morgoth/Melkor could never find it even though he spent long periods searching the Void before the creation of Arda,if it had been stored in the depths of the earth Melkor would have found it in his long ages in Middle Earth but the Realms of ME and Arda and all it's various beings were created using the Frame so in a way you're not too far from the mark, and it was kind of you to try to pass along info and try to help a fellow Tolkien Fan:)Cheers:)
Gandalf says that there was a rumour that each Dwarf ring was the foundation of their seven hoards of treasure. Gandalf says something like "a ring needs gold to breed gold", but we never learn quite *how* that works.
Dont make much sense tht losing the rings of power makes the elven kingdoms deteriorate, they lose their immortality and all their knowledge along with emm or something??
the other rings were made with Saurons help and formula so it was connected to the one, it is the same as the elven rings that Celembrimbor made using the same formula
The Seven and the Nine were not "Lesser rings." Gandalf tells Frodo: "In Eregion long ago many Elven-rings were made, magic rings as you call them, and they were, of course, of various kinds: some more potent and some less. The lesser rings were only essays in the craft before it was full-grown, and to the Elven-smiths they were but trifles - yet to my mind dangerous for mortals. But the Great Rings, the Rings of Power, they were perilous." Unless you call 19 "many" then the 16 were not "lesser rings." Then the wizard states at the Council of Elrond: "The Nine, the Seven, and the Three", he said, "had each their proper gem. Not so the One. It was round and unadorned, as it were one of the lesser rings; but its maker set marks upon it that the skilled, maybe, could still see and read." From this last quote, we know for a fact tha the Three, the Seven and the Nine were not among those "lesser rings."
sandorsbox For the sake of distinction, I see quite often people call the 16 "lesser rings" in comparison to the Three, because the Three are stated to have been specifically made more powerful than the other Great Rings. And further still the 19 are lesser in comparison to the One. I see nothing wrong with this.
But that is a false distinction. The 3 are independent of Sauron’s influence but they were never stated to have been more powerful than the other 16. Furthermore, all 19 are included in discussions of “The Great Rings” where as The One is often excluded from such talk as a separate entity all together. My text references above clearly support my assertion that the Seven and the Nine were never intended by Tolkien to be considered among the “Lesser Rings”
sandorsbox Tolkien very clearly separates the Three in terms of power, and even states they were the greatest: "Now these were the Three that had last been made, and they possessed the greatest powers. Narya, Nenya, and Vilya, they were named..." - The Silmarillion, Of the Rings of Power and The Third Age. "The Elves of Eregion made Three supremely beautiful and powerful rings, almost solely of their own imagination, and directed to the preservation of beauty: they did not confer invisibility." -Letter #131 I'm not talking about how Tolkien refers to them; the Rings are quite clearly distinguished between the Lesser Rings (essays of the craft pre-Annatar knowledge) and the Great Rings (post-Annatar knowledge). I'm talking about general discussion when people want to distinguish between all of the 19. The 16 can be considered lesser-Great Rings IN COMPARISON to the Three. That doesn't make them Lesser Rings (capitalised).
I stand corrected in regards to the power of the three, but I still stand by my claim that to refer to the Seven and Nine as “lesser rings” discredits them and goes against the description in the source material as they were included among the “Great Rings.”
sandorsbox Here's that quote again from Letter #131 but more in full: "The Elves of Eregion made Three supremely beautiful and powerful rings, almost solely of their own imagination, and directed to the preservation of beauty: they did not confer invisibility. But secretly in the subterranean Fire, in his own Black Land, Sauron made One Ring, the Ruling Ring that contained the powers of all the others, and controlled them, so that its wearer could see the thoughts of all those that used the *lesser rings*, could govern all that they did, and in the end could utterly enslave them. He reckoned, however, without the wisdom and subtle perceptions of the Elves. The moment he assumed the One, they were aware of it, and of his secret purpose, and were afraid. They hid the Three Rings, so that not even Sauron ever discovered where they were and they remained unsullied. The others they tried to destroy." Tolkien himself here refers to ALL rings of power under the One as "lesser rings". Using the word as an adjective in no way contradicts its use as a noun.
it makes no sense that the elven rings arent connected to the one for story's sake. simply becuz the fact that they become powerless at the destruction of the one ring....but they arent influenced by the one ring i.e. they aren't connected to the one ring, but they still lose all power when the one is destroyed. I dont say this lightly but this is kind of stupid and like i said; its like this for the sake of a few characters having unnatural power
zerohour now But Celebrimbor probably used Saurons techniques to make the 3 Elven rings. Whatever way the 3 rings were made was influenced by Sauron because we know that all 3 users felt the presence of the 1 ring when Sauron put it on. Therefore is understandable that the 3 rings and the 1 ring are connected slightly, and by destroying the 1 ring this also weakens the 3 Elven rings.
Rings give power according to Stature and Bilbo and Frodo weren't exactly great Lords;)But after Souron betrayed Celebrimbor he ruled Middle Earth for a thousand years, and that was due to the power of the One,and places like Imladris and Lorien were maintained by the power of the Elven Rings, and Gandalf might not have won the Balrog if it weren't for his Ring of fire....

Does the ring changes it size? Bcz Frodo and Sauron doesnt have the same finger size

Rael Kaz yes
Bilbo mentions to Frodo that the ring sometimes tries to slip off his finger, which is why Frodo kept it on a chain

When Frodo attacked Gollum after Gollum but off his finger is one of best invented dramatic scenes by Jackson in ROTK; usually Jackson’s deletion of drama from the original source material and adding off-script drama leaving one wondering - WTF...?
0:37 When Melkor breaks your face in.
I really enjoy all of your content. Great stuff and keep it up!
Nice vid! What music are you using in the background?
Most are Soundtracks from the game The battle for Middle Earth 2, I'll go through them to double check which I had used! :)
Technically there were much lesser lesser rings with no stones, that appeared the same as the One Ring (When not in fire) all below the seven-and-nine.
Thanks for explaining this
So glad I subbed, love your content!
Thanks, your sub and support are greatly appreciated, reading these type of comments make my day! :)
so, despite the evil that the rings and even the one ring has brought to middle earth ..there were good things too that was benefited out from it out from evil ..for the three rings given to the elves brought power, prosperity and magic which they enjoyed when the one ring was still undestroyed .
yes, and they actually had a much deeper effect, though I'd rather not spoil it yet cause I'll be talking about it in my next video!
What I would like to see in a video is healing in MIddle Earth. Herbs, like Athelas, magic like Elrond's healing abilities. Could Gandalf heal? Galadriel? Elisar? So much healing, tell us all about it! Including substances like lambas and elf-draught.
Great video! Thanks dude!
A very well made video, concise and enjoyable. Thank you!
Cheers!
According to the Unfinished Tales, Nenya was the Chief of the Elven Rings while Vilya was the mightiest of the three.
Yes all elves in Middle-Earth felt the longing for the sea, though if I remember correctly Nenya strengthened this longing as you mentioned.
Amazing! Love your videos
Great vid! Keep it up.
Thankk you !! :)
Can you do a vid on the Silvan (pretty sure I spelt that wrong lol) elves?
Sure, I'll add it to my list, thanks for the suggestion! :)
GODDAMNIT NOW I HAVE TO LEARN ABOUT MORGOT
This was the only video i never saw of all your video’s going to watch now and il be cool 😎
Great video!
Thank you it means alot :)
Here's a question: what would have happened if Frodo fell to his wound on Weathertop?
Great question, I'll add it to my list for future topics!
Bad things happen.
He gets herpes.
So wait questions
Do all these rings have unique powers
And does the one ring have all the rings powers
Please make a video about Morgoth :)
Ring of power = router :P You have a power within yourself but your purpose is to project authority and to enforce your subordinates (Arm Rings - Norse mythology)-> They create an aura of authority for the subjects/realms to be influenced by it. Elven rings -> Elven realms
Sauron -> Mordor, The Nine and The Seven - their respective human and dwarven kingdoms.
And it burns burns burns, the ring of fire.
The most famous until Elrond was played by Hugo Weaving :)
Do a video on all the details!
Liked!
Very awesome videos, thanks!
So im curious, why were the 3 elven rings rendered powerless after the 1 ring fell?..if they werent made by Sauron.
Video about the taverns?
Any idea about the study rings?
I wanna hear more about Aule, he seemed to send two beings to middle earth, that could’ve been the destruction of that world, was his intent to destroy middle earth without manwe discovering his true intentions
It would've been unfair is he was punished for his servants/student's actions, if that was the case, manwhe would also be in suspicion bcs of him choosing saruman.
So how are they made because the wraith elf guy made one in shadow of war
By all your powers combined, I am Captain Middle-Earth!
is this guy from the Caribbean? the person from the channel
I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure, that names, that strarts with letter C, should be pronounced at the beginnig with K and not an S. So the right pronunciation should be Kírdan just like you have done with Celebrimbor.
You're absolutely right! In my older videos my pronunciation was a bit off =)
Yesterday I wrote some of my thoughts to video about if Arkenstone is one of Silmarils. I would love to read you opinion about it ( just if you had time to do so ). I added it to comment of Benjamin McCoy, that: "the arkenstone might be a left over shard of the 2 lamps". And by the way: Great videos, all of them. I love when I found someone who shares the same love to this stories and books as I do.
Ah yes, I believe one of the comments on the video had mentioned that theory, it sound awesome! You're more than welcome to share your thoughts or any questions! Though I'd recommended contacting me on my facebook page, as it's alot better when it comes to notifications
You didn´t really understand what I wanted to say :) I added my opinion to comment of somebody else. Or maybe I do not understand you :) Let it be :)
+Jakub Kvasniak Ahhh my bad I misunderstood you! I'll check out his comment and leave you a reply later on today :)
I guess you can call it 'The Lore Of The Rings'
im truly sorry
Damn, you got there before I did.....
One of my favorite characters is Radagast because he loved nature and yet he was portrayed as dim witted and had bird poo running down his face. Quite the Characterization
Cirdan, like every name in Middle Earth that starts with a C, is said with a hard C and not an S sound thus is not pronounced Seer-dan, but Keer-dan.
But why were the rings created, what was the motivation?
Cirdan (Keer-dan)
Did the ring change sizes? How was it small enough to fit hobbits and simultaneously large enough to fit Sauron, who was larger in stature then any man or elf.
Yes. That's how it usually escapes it's owners.
The one rings 3rd power is it makes its user invisible
Who is more powerfull sauron or morgot
Morgoth*.. and he was an entire tier above Sauron. Sauron would have an incredibly hard time trying to defeat Morgoth
Just curious. Does the Nazguls still wear their lesser rings from the time they were men?
It's believed that Sauron had taken them back in his position after they became the ringwraiths. I cover this a bit in my 'Could Frodo Control the Nazgul' video if you want to check it out :)
what would happen if someone wore not 1 but 10 rings at the same time?
If you are going to give a ring of power to an Elf, Mordor recommends spending 2 months salary.
How about the ring that was made in those two LotR games?
Not cannon.
@@tumhornkingslayer6411 Still deserves a lore video.
love your videos...do you have any plans to do some lotr based videogame reviews? if so i have a tip for you ...there is a mudgame(textbased online) that has existed since the early 90s based on the world of Tolkien called mume ...you can check it out on mume.org ...i play it and think its realy a great game..but it needs more people ..so any promotion from you would be welcome..and its a totaly free game.and dosnt cost to play it.
So Sauron is an apprentice of a godlike being? Why didn't that being stop him from doing bad things then!?
It been awhile, but the godlike being is evil variant of the god.
My precious LOL
Damn Gil share some rings will you
Soooo Darklord Sauron has Horcruxs?
no, the horcrux as you said is the one ring as he put a bit of himself in it and not the lesser rings
The Ring of fire could have helped Gandalf defeat the Balrog. He could deal with it's heat.
The rings power is to inspire others and to rally people against tyranny, the rings doesn't have any combative powers.
why are the rings in odd numbers?
why didnt saruman take narya. he knew gandalf had it and was jealous of him bc of it
If someone Weilded all 20
but how? you only got 10 fingers
No Ring of Heart? :)
I believe 5 of the rings of men were kings of numenor
But what is with the precious Power Ring? **Demonic screech**
Did the dwarves even use theirs?
Gandalf says that there was a rumour that each Dwarf ring was the foundation of their seven hoards of treasure. Gandalf says something like "a ring needs gold to breed gold", but we never learn quite *how* that works.
He did not make the ainor for them to be like gods more like angels
who here owns at least one of the rings?
LETS GET 100 K SUBS
if sauron helped make 16 rings thats men and dwarves. what of the elves
as he said in the beginning celebrimbor did thos without his help.
Dont make much sense tht losing the rings of power makes the elven kingdoms deteriorate, they lose their immortality and all their knowledge along with emm or something??
The 3 rings allowed them to use magic. Im going to assume that they relied too much on that magic.
@@prime_optimus perhaps, but they did have kingdoms before they had the rings too
I m really wondering who disliked 😒
I don’t care how great people think Game of Thrones is,it can’t compare to Tolkien’s creation. Please Jackson give us another trilogy.
So your telling me the untouched rings were still destroyed with Sauron ring. Hmm.. What does this tell you?
the other rings were made with Saurons help and formula so it was connected to the one, it is the same as the elven rings that Celembrimbor made using the same formula
The Seven and the Nine were not "Lesser rings."
Gandalf tells Frodo: "In Eregion long ago many Elven-rings were made, magic rings as you call them, and they were, of course, of various kinds: some more potent and some less. The lesser rings were only essays in the craft before it was full-grown, and to the Elven-smiths they were but trifles - yet to my mind dangerous for mortals. But the Great Rings, the Rings of Power, they were perilous."
Unless you call 19 "many" then the 16 were not "lesser rings."
Then the wizard states at the Council of Elrond: "The Nine, the Seven, and the Three", he said, "had each their proper gem. Not so the One. It was round and unadorned, as it were one of the lesser rings; but its maker set marks upon it that the skilled, maybe, could still see and read."
From this last quote, we know for a fact tha the Three, the Seven and the Nine were not among those "lesser rings."
sandorsbox For the sake of distinction, I see quite often people call the 16 "lesser rings" in comparison to the Three, because the Three are stated to have been specifically made more powerful than the other Great Rings.
My text references above clearly support my assertion that the Seven and the Nine were never intended by Tolkien to be considered among the “Lesser Rings”
sandorsbox Tolkien very clearly separates the Three in terms of power, and even states they were the greatest:
"Now these were the Three that had last been made, and they possessed the greatest powers. Narya, Nenya, and Vilya, they were named..." - The Silmarillion, Of the Rings of Power and The Third Age.
"The Elves of Eregion made Three supremely beautiful and powerful rings, almost solely of their own imagination, and directed to the preservation of beauty: they did not confer invisibility." -Letter #131
I'm not talking about how Tolkien refers to them; the Rings are quite clearly distinguished between the Lesser Rings (essays of the craft pre-Annatar knowledge) and the Great Rings (post-Annatar knowledge). I'm talking about general discussion when people want to distinguish between all of the 19. The 16 can be considered lesser-Great Rings IN COMPARISON to the Three. That doesn't make them Lesser Rings (capitalised).
I stand corrected in regards to the power of the three, but I still stand by my claim that to refer to the Seven and Nine as “lesser rings” discredits them and goes against the description in the source material as they were included among the “Great Rings.”
sandorsbox Here's that quote again from Letter #131 but more in full:
"The Elves of Eregion made Three supremely beautiful and powerful rings, almost solely of their own imagination, and directed to the preservation of beauty: they did not confer invisibility. The others they tried to destroy."
Tolkien himself here refers to ALL rings of power under the One as "lesser rings". Using the word as an adjective in no way contradicts its use as a noun.
names butchered
I have a theory the ring is a girl
it makes no sense that the elven rings arent connected to the one for story's sake. simply becuz the fact that they become powerless at the destruction of the one ring....but they arent influenced by the one ring i.e. they aren't connected to the one ring, but they still lose all power when the one is destroyed.
You forgot the ring that taillon and calabrimbor make
That's not canon.
There is only one god Allah
Islam is a false cult
There is only god not Allah
Rings ain't even that powerful they don't even do that much
Rings give power according to Stature and Bilbo and Frodo weren't exactly great Lords;)But after Souron betrayed Celebrimbor he ruled Middle Earth for a thousand years, and that was due to the power of the One,and places like Imladris and Lorien were maintained by the power of the Elven Rings, and Gandalf might not have won the Balrog if it weren't for his Ring of fire....
