Yep, my first mace was 7.5 kilos (ca 16 lbs), because KBs that weight were no problems. How hard could it be?

Excellent and clear explanation as always Mark. I've been doing kb halos as part of my pre-breakfast morning mobility this last month. I do the 3 minute neck mobility that was posted a while ago, then kb halos 30 seconds in each direction then I finish it off by sitting deep in a goblet squat for 1 min with the same kb. Really starts my day off right.

@@MarkWildman any theories on why this isn’t a more common approach?
The feedback from being under load and using long levers has forced me into better biomechanics, better awareness, and forced me to not compartmentalize muscle groups - but to think of movement patterns/full body engagement. I imagine that to be crucial in martial arts (I have never pursued martial arts but hope to at some point). Been training with your programs for half a year today! 6 months of tracking everything and being able to reference the progress has literally changed my life.

I happen to have all the pieces but I think I might be the only one. but the seminars are meant to make my ideas spread so hopefully it becomes more common place

@@MarkWildman I have mild functional.scoliosis, tight quadraquadratus lumborum, right side hip hike and all the things that go along with it. I do club and mace work daily, and kettlebell 3 to 4 times a week, along with some running. I tend to gravitate towards grinding workouts of a single or a few simple moves. I know all the unilateral and rotational/anti rotation work helps immensely and keeps things in check, but I feel I could probably be doing more specific things to address the imbalances. I kinda feel like i know the type of movements i need to be doing.....somewhat. I just have a hard time deciding what will give me the most bang the buck time wise.

@@MarkWildman after marinating on it for a while and thinking more deliberately, maybe I don't need comparisons. You do a good job of grouping families of movements that logically progress. You've got so much content it seems like information overload when it really isn't. Based on what I rememeber from past videos and what I feel when I do the movements, I'd probably pick Jefferson curl, 2 hand mills, suitcase carries, some progression of windmills and pivoting uppercut to focus on a little more in addition to the things I already do regularly. And I also saw another coach do a vid on an offset steel mace single leg dead lift that feels like it might be perfect.....big difference side vs side.
Anyway, thanks for all your content. I look forward to each new video, even when it's something I'll probably never do.

As I start to add volume, the fascia in my upper body, from my thoracic spine to my fingers, remind me to take it very slowly. From my perspective, the mace and clubs require a very long-term adaptation. Practitioners beware. Enjoying the journey.

Wrestlers in the Indian sub continent have been practicing mace ( called a GADA) halos for centuries as a basic training drill. Most are able to handle relatively heavier weight loads and sustained sessions. The mace used is usually made of bamboo/wood handles with cement or such similar material at the weighted end. Absolutely basic gear..... but very effective as almost all these wrestlers have immense grip strength and upper body mobility....

10 minute mace 360s? Wow, I'll have to try that. I'm 60 and have worked up to sets of 15 per direction with a 25lb Onnit mace. 10 minutes would be an entirely different affair. I'll have to start with the 10lb mace and see how 10 minutes feels. This is only guessing, but I think I can do it with the 10lb, and _maybe_ with the 15lb. I'm positive I can't do the 20 or 25lb for 10 minutes straight ... but that would be bad-ass.

Does it mean that if you are using a mace or a mace-like setup, the halo movement should and is more likely to involve a bit of a body swing because you would be moving a longer equipment behind your neck and hence, to bring it back, you need to slightly swing your body to ensure the halo movement is maintained? What I am using right now is more like a smaller mace but slightly different - it is two rods of adjustable dumbells connected using the standard nuts that come with the product and towards one end of it, I have placed about 12 kgs of weighted plates. Visually - like a mace but just shorter. When I use this, the body does move/swing slightly to bring it back over the shoulder versus when I use a barbell plate, the body remains more upright and rigid.

Lots of your videos have cues for resisting extension of the torso/spine and maintaining tension on the front of the body (plus glutes) for good form when using CB and KB. All good cues.
Do you include training outside of weight swinging to build strength and control in back extension with hips and shoulders included? i.e. superman/superwoman pose and similar family of movements? It's not batman, but it's still super 😀
