To say I'm unhappy with the URSA Turret debacle would be an understatement. I keep getting the error "Your description is too long" so I can't provide the full letter and response.
Brethren, I've been singing this song since they announced ursa mini 4.6K. Everyone told me I was a cry baby on Ursa Facebook forum. I remminded everyone, people bought that tank based on what Blackmagic as a company promised. So if there's a class act case or you thinking of starting one, please count me in. 👍🏾💪🏾✊🏾
One of the best videos I've seen, your opinion is correct and you explained why you're upset...I totally agree I have the Ursa V2 so long. I love the camera. The 3 screens, the sound LED's,the 4K 120fps RAW... Nothing comes close not even now... I wish Blackmagic kept the promise... I have also a Ursa mini Pro and BMPCC 6K... I still use the original Ursa all the time... The global shutter is just awesome!
Classy ranty from a owner/operator who (almost) got BM to drop to their collective corporate knees. We all know that would never happen. Well done Sir.
That last 10 seconds had me laughing my ass off! I’m sorry this situation happens to you man. Same thing happened to my friend. Bought the Ursa in hopes of getting the upgraded sensor. Never came and had to make a choice on cameras. He personally chose to say screw Blackmagic and went with the Red Raven. The original 4K sensor is still a great image but you guys were cheated. I don’t know what but I do hope that at some point you get closure for this
It's a great camera. I wouldn't suggest buying one today unless it was much cheaper than 1500 usd. A pocket cinema camera would cost the same with a cage and extra batteries.
So if you would have been happy with a zero dollor exchange, then why not take the upgrade program for the UMP.. Yes it costs money, but so would the sensor turret have.. And Yes, it is more money than the turrent upgrade.. but you also get to keep your old Ursa that you love SOOOO much. But we actually still dont know the price of the turret upgrade.. yes it was like 2000$ or something, but they never promised that. It could easily have been 3000$ or more. I Simply dont get it.
He bought the UMP offered. That's one of the first things he said in the video. The point is, that some of us bought the camera ONLY BECAUSE it was billed as being user upgrade able. They in fact sold something that never was upgrade able. All while continuing to promise that it was coming. That's the problem people have. And yes, they did set a turret price...they also had my $1600 for close to two years before the order was eventually cancelled and refunded. There is plenty wrong with how this played out. The UMP loyalty offer was nice...but they could have been much more forthcoming with info over the years. That said, the camera is almost 5 years now. There are still people who bought them second hand and think it's coming and are upset that it isn't. That I simply don't get.
I took the UMP upgrade and have the UMP. I had to take the upgrade. Didn't have a choice. Had a job at a steel factory and because of the black hole sun problem with the 4K sensor, obviously the 4K sensor wouldn't work and since we already have all the support equipment for the Blackmagic Camera it was the most cost effective solution. But remember that the upgrade isn't just $3,500, it's that price plus tax, plus shoulder mount, plus timecode cable support and anything else that didn't transfer over from the big URSA. It was a financial burden. Hopefully that makes sense. Also, the turret was priced, available for preorder, and ship date announced at $2,000 or $2,500 depending on the mount BEFORE I bought my URSA Major. It is why I bought the URSA Major because I knew I had the option to upgrade. Of course I was wrong, but not due to a lack of research on my part. I don't want the UMP. For what we do as a company, I would use the URSA exclusively with a 4.6K sensor and I would sell our UMP. Hopefully this makes more sense to you and my apologies for not explaining this in the video. I have a review coming up that explains the pros and cons of the URSA and UMP. But to sum up the future video, the pros of the UMP for our company are weight and the 4.6K sensor. That's it.
Thanks for your comment. I just checked the video and the audio levels are good and I have the volume at 50% on my end. I don't know why your audio is low.
AMEN!! this system gave so many creative people the IDEA that they could compete with the snobs (who sometimes dont even have the real talent), that own the $100,000 cameras , then they had the rug pulled out from underneath them. Now people are laughing even harder at the folks who had this faith in Ursa. We are the Charley Browns of the movie-making world, AND its so stupid because this camera is amazing! Its like BMD told us- "hey, i know i came to the dance with you, but look man, the head cheerleader wants to take me home, she is better looking than you , and i'm gonna get a whole bunch of new, swell friends too, who by the way , come from the right side of the tracks, so i am going with them, good luck with your silly dreams"!
2021 and I'm still watching this! Don't expect the turret but it's still cathartic to watch this.
I loved the rant. Classiest rant yet. There’s a lot of us out here including myself.

Do you have the ursa v1?
Classy ranty from a owner/operator who (almost) got BM to drop to their collective corporate knees. We all know that would never happen. Well done Sir.
I have an URSA V1, and I would just love if the sensor upgrade eventually came true...
You made good and fair points. You are definitely right.
They shipped it knowing it had the blackhole fault on the sensor. They could NOT have missed that. They just didnt care.

Didn't expect to watch the entire video. I still use the original pocket camera haha it's so tinyyyy
Do you think an Ursa major V2 is worth it for an independent looking for a cheap quality camera ?
Yes, as long as you recognize the weight. It is a heavy camera, but a really good one.
thank you. any updates?
No updates. Unfortunately. But I'll keep you updated.
And never get resolve?
No. We were talking before the pandemic hit and I have not reached out since.
this cat is rubbing that camera like somebody violated a family member funny
I didn't even know I was doing it until I was editing the footage. Made me feel dirty.
