      Have a look at odroid in the Nederlands, they sell the H4 alone @ €138.90 (including French VAT, so €113.85 gross), the H4+ @ €180.99 (€148.35) and the H4 Ultra @ €308.66 (€253.00).
      It is still expensive, but at this time there is no competitors or the few there is are more expensive.

      I don't have H4, but I have RK3588 (NanoT6 from FriendlyElec), a research on cpu comparison give it very close to the intel N100, so I expect the N97 to be around +3% perfs.
      NanoT6 running Debian bullseye (yeah, it is one branch back) is working ferpectly well and chromium is an accelerated version specially crafted for this CPU (the _only_ thing that is awfully slooow on ARM is when encoding/transcoding video not using the special libraries that can exploit the intrinsic encoders) - so the H4 should be working very well for kids (and parents;)

    • @Lurch-Bot1
      @Lurch-Bot1 Місяць тому

      If you're using Linux, why would you get a crappy old Celeron when the RK3588 exists?

    • @hankhulator5007
      @hankhulator5007 Місяць тому

      @@Lurch-Bot1 There is one domain where ARM can't really compete, it is when encoding/transcoding video, as ARM doesn't have the intel extensions it is ridiculously slooow with ie: avidemux.
      Of course RK3588 have intrinsic x264, x265, VP9, etc encoders/decoders (I've read of a guy that is encoding 16 simultaneous FullHD streams), but at this time it is difficult to exploit. and not used by regular software except chromium video decoding at this time.
      For the rest, the RK3588 is much faster than my old laptop (i5-4210M) while having a lower power demand - with the debian bullseye eMMC image and using XFCE :~4.2 W idle & ~11.8 W stressed using : stress --cpu 8 --vm 8 --vm-bytes 14GB --io 8
      --timeout 600s).

    • @SeeJayPlayGames
      @SeeJayPlayGames 12 днів тому

      @@Lurch-Bot1 not a "crappy old Celeron." N97 is an Alder Lake-N mobile chip with 4 E-cores and benches between an 11th gen i3 mobile and 8th gen i5 mobile chip and came out in 2023. It has AV1 decoding which helps a lot with UA-cam playback. For its class and price, it's not that bad for general purpose/light computing. It sucks at gaming, though.

      Note that with the 2 available USB 3.0 ports, you can add 2+2 3"1/2 HDDz (or 2"1/2) in USB disks vertical holder (usually supplied w/ a 12V/3A power supply), or only 2 and add a USB 3.0 5Gbps Ethernet dongle or even only 4 HDD plus 2×5Gbps Ethernet dongle, making it quite a good and fast file server.

    That windows update task in the background (nothing else running) is eating up to 100 percent cpu resource, poor little SBC! Windows 11 is such a bloated mess of an OS, tiny10 is where everybody should be at but its not for the average pc user as it needs some trouble shooting/fixing to fully refine for daily use.

    I just bought a netbook on ebay for under $20. Granted probably not as fast being quite old but it has all the connections, is very small and has a screen and keyboard. These SBC's really aren't worth the cost anymore

    The choice to go with the N97 rather than the N100 is kind of stupid/misguided.
    Yes, the max boost clocks ARE lower on the N100 vs the N97, but the N97 also has a max TDP that's DOUBLE the max TDP of the N100.
    In other words, if you want low(er) power consumption, they should've opted for the N100, despite the 0.2 GHz max boost clock difference, whilst cutting the power consumption (at least according to the max TDP) in HALF.

    • @tschorsch
      @tschorsch Місяць тому

      They're the same generation and will use the same under the same load. The n97 allows the cpu and gpu to scale higher and run faster. For desktop or NAS use, you might as well stick with the higher performing chip.

      "They're the same generation and will use the same under the same load."
      Not at full load, it doesn't.
      "The n97 allows the cpu and gpu to scale higher and run faster."
      As I noted, the N97 will clock 0.2 GHz higher, but that's at the COST of DOUBLE the TDP.
      Do you really think that 6 W for 200 MHz is worth it?

    • @tschorsch

    • @iokwong1871
      @iokwong1871 Місяць тому

      @@tschorsch Most mini PC are upgradable. Especially storage. For some extremely compact cases, They might use solder RAM. But that too has the advantage that the RAM usually can operate at higher speed at reduced cost than most typical slotted in RAM. I mean H4 Plus is basically a mini PC that didn't come with any RAM, SSD, Cables, Fan, and Power Supply at the same cost of a Mini PC. And cost more once you added those things. But sure there might be one or two unique features that users may find interesting.

      simple and handy, not garbage, not at all, but is just for that, perhaps file server, sharea printer or two, nothing more, the atom cpu is a enormous limitation here
