    Johnson had a specific reason for making these recordings. As a senator and then later as Majority Leader Johnson relied heavily on his legendary ability to remember every promise, every concession, every exact detail discussed in the making of this or that deal with this or that other official. The problem was, as Johnson got on in years, that his memory wasn't so good anymore. As the years go by, I can sympathise with his problem. Initially, Johnson dealt with it by having a stenographer sit at a blind line whenever he made a telephone call; the stenographer would later type up a transcript of the call for Johnson so that he could remember exactly what he had promised so-and-so in exchange for what. When new technology became available, he just upgraded to it. It's interesting that he chose to have it all preserved for posterity even if in the end it had to be published before he intended to make certain that no living people could be embarrassed by any of it.

  • @teddym692
    @teddym692 5 років тому +4

    This is just selected stuff. It's not like with Nixon where the taping system was voice activated so any sound would start a recording. Johnson knew what he wanted to say and what he wanted to keep. Nixon's tapes revealed everything (except for the infamous 18 1/2 minute gap, and not even everything on the existing tapes is public yet, and may never be). We still only have so much of what Johnson was really saying in his conversations...tho we know enough to know how crude he was. Ever heard the one where he's ordering pants? But funny stuff aside, there's lots more we will never know.

    ever hear of the warren commision? What else do you think a sitting president could do besides put the best people from congress on it? LBJ was worried that people would get all riled up, and it would lead to war with the soviets. He wanted things to calm down. He was trying hard to maintain calm and stability, in a time ruled by hotheads and riots.

    Since LBJ was clearly in control of what was recorded and what wasn't....I doubt he'd knowingly discuss anything incriminating over a dictaphone. Also, Rose Kennedy's phone call to him just after the assassination (and before the Kennedys themselves could look into who could have done it), doesn't necessarily absolve Johnson of any guilt. Bobby Kennedy himself was said to have candidly asked LBJ why he had his brother killed. Also LBJ's hitman's fingerprints were found in the depository.

    "For you JFK conspiracy theorists, it doesn't look like LBJ had much to say that was incriminating..."
    I doubt that anything too incriminating would have been released lol. Just the same way the missing 18 minutes on Nixon's phone calls were deleted as well. There are hundreds of hours of tapes on Johnson. This special just shared a few and like I said, anything that would be incriminating is never going to be released.

    The audio recording nexus was airborne (24 hours a day) with Curtis LeMay's SAC bombers equipped with new Collins SSB radio network. The coded but unencrypted radio traffic recorded on the way to Bathesda reveals, first, that it too was (poorly) edited to remove incriminating content. Second that the radio traffic led to two helicopters meeting 26000 forward/starboard, in the dark, and a shell game (hahaha) played on the military color guard teams at hospital, each team unknown to the other were both detailed to receive different coffins; (1) JFK's ornate bronze coffin that Jackie left only momentarily to swear Johnson in, and (2) a pinkish/grey shipping coffin that actually contained the body, arriving at Bethesda about 30 minutes early for a little pre-autopsy surgical rearragements to JFK's skull with a bone saw. Also factored was an EMI phenomenon when one of those powerful Collins SSB radio transceivers used to coordinate the hit was colocated (same physical place) with DPD dispatch radios (as captured on their extant Dictabelt recording) where you can hear the radio cross-talk (on a different frequency) going out to the 1 Watt Collins SSB walkie-talkies that the Dark complected Man (working together with the Umbrella Man) was photographed telescoping the antennae down and slipping the radio into his back pocket, right there in the Plaza, right where the shooting started to hit home: *"We're a go!"* {pause pause} *BANG* {pause} *BANG/BANG* > all recorded because of a stuck Police microphone button.

    LBJ does not seem like the type to cry?? He told his cabinet in 1964 that he didnt have the temperment to be commander in chief. During the bombing raids, he wouldnt sleep until every plane was accounted for. He broke down in tears in front of the cabinet while listening to a recording of american combat action describing casualties. Ladybird said LBJ cried though the movie Grapes of Wrath.

  • @Schonward01

    He told his secretary when to tape. I would be unlikely he would tell them to do so and then say something incriminating. If he was in on the plot I'm sure he was smart enough to know not get his hand caught in the cookie jar. I'm sure his life may have been at risk too. If the people who did it were exposed on his account , I'm sure he would have meet the same fate as mr Kennedy.

    LBJ carried out the Kennedy agenda as President, the civil rights legislation against stiff opposition in the South, the Medicare reforms and welfare, he was obviously deeply troubled by the Vietnam war and thought it was another Korea disaster. He had a strong personality but has been given a bad press by some historians and media.

    It's a pretty safe assumption that any President who installs his own taping equipment would be savvy enough to leave a line untapped. Assuming that any world leader would record absolutely every phone conversation he made is naive and illogical.
    But in the case of LBJ, whose longtime corruption has been documented by Robert Caro, Barr McClellan and other biographers, imagining that he'd entrap himself with his own recordings is woefully ignorant.

      David Brandel. LBJ was up to his eyes involved in the conspiracy. This video is propaganda and in no way exonerates him from any guilt. The uploader is claiming that it does. I call BS. These are the same people who promote the "official" lies given to the public from day one. Those in denial of the existence of conspiracies, point to the lies as proof of their position. This too, is BS!

  • @cobrafarmer

  • @GregJay

    He recorded his calls out of a guilty conscience, he knew he was being recorded, please, this way he could act innocent on every call see. Doesn't take a genius to see that he cherry picked which ones to record which ones to not. A guilty man feeling guilty about something. He had the sense to know they would be listened to in the future. Johnson was the worst president ever! Hoover was the worst thing that ever happened to America period. Johnson and Hoover they should name viruses after them but not buildings. Oh so touching.... Right, btw, he stopped cutting his hair, smoke and drank himself to death in 4 years and was seeing a shrink. His man Malcom Wallace had his prints found on the 6th floor of the suppository building. suppository I says
