if your leasing sometimes you have find a location you believe will fit your clientele. (parking menu kitchen and decor ) then build your business plan around what equipment is already there what can be changed and what you need . hopefully changing very little to save costs but having room to grow in the proper direction . restaurants are so risky because you can have all the best equipment decor and menu, but the wrong location.

Aside from the equipment you need to create your food item. The 2 most overlooked, expensive kitchen expense is a kitchen hood and a grease trap. If the retail location you are looking at already doesn't have them, you'll end up paying a hefty price to install them.
You have to do your research in dept about what is needed for the kitchen area. Keep in mind the details cause they will drain your money away like silverware, you have to figure out ways not to keep losing then sometimes in the garbage. Also the breakage of plates.
You need to identify what your theme of the restaurant and what you'll be serving to answer that question. But most staples for a kitchen is a double fryer, flat top, multiple stoves and ovens, grill, mixing equipment, prep tables, ladder racks, fridge and freezers, steam wells for stainless pans, dishwashing equipment, etc......
Thank you, Wilson! I have an assignment due tomorrow for a program I was fortunate enough to be accepted into. We have to present what we think a business plan for a food business should be. This helps me a lot!

Have a financial strategy in your business plan. We see business owners scrambling to find business funding to support their growth. Often these owners take on an MCA loan or two or three and then their cash flow is getting hit hard by daily repayments coming straight from their bank account. Meeting payroll and food costs and rent means that you need to have money in the bank when those payments are due. Finding a flexible financing strategy to fit that need is crucial to your business plan so you don't end up putting a bandaid on the broken leg.

I am very grateful that you made this video. I’ve been having ideas for a 10 year plan on opening my first restaurant. I got a new job as an assistant general manager recently of a quick service ice cream place and realized that I’m taking the steps necessary to make my dream real. I’ve taken all the appropriate notes from this video and it has given me a great starting place. However, I was wondering what the appropriate timeline should be. I chose 10 years because I wanted to pay off some debts and raise my credit. Also after being in this industry for my entire adult life I realized that I needed more experience and reputation. How long would you recommend I plan out before making any big moves? I’m already like 2 years into my 10 year plan.
It is good that you're adding some management experience to your belt. I would keep at it and dig deeper to understand upper management workings + operations. But understand that no one is ever "ready" to make the big move. It is whether you kick your own butt to make it happen. There will ALWAYS be something you won't have any idea about in business...that is scary and filled with landmines in your path. But it is up to you to fight your fear and SELF that you won't have all the exp and reputation to go through the jungle unscatched. I didn't have any exp. with ice cream when I started. ZERO. My bread & butter was running a tutoring & event business at that time. And even now with 10 years of business exp. I am constantly learning new things that pop up. Things always change. For some, the uncertainty is part of the thrill. Timeline wise....no idea. It's about when are you going to scratch that itch and start is the question you need to ask yourself.
This is exactly what I was looking for ! Thanks a lot Wilson!! Great timing! I was literally looking for a video like this! Your way of explaining things is really nice and I loved how detailed this video was. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge. You're a great help :)
I keep watching all your videos. Soon we will start our business. I keep on watching videos that can help me to start a business, then I accidentally cross in this channel of yours Wilson K Lee - How To Open A Restaurant / F&B Shop which is very helpful. Thank you!
Wilson thank you from the bottom of my heart that you share all these info for free.!! You are very cool!! :) I have a question that bothers my head a lot. How do you secure the idea that you have, when you present the whole detailed business plan to investors or bankers, so you are sure they can not steal it and just do it themselves???
Thanks for the nice words! There is always that tiny risk of it happening. But honestly...it is all down to the execution and the person doing it. You are doing it out of your passion - they are not. And some people will vibe with you vs. another that is doing a similar concept. So don't worry about copycats or ppl stealing your ideas. It will happen (especially when you get more successful) but you just roll with your punches and do your thing. Cause honestly...even if you go through legal route - it is draining and not worth it (that is my exp anyways). Stay focused on your business and things will fall into place step by step.
@@WilsonKLee That was a real pep talk to my ears!!! I guess you are right, you cant avoid copycats but you can always prepare and do your homework so you can be better than them . Thanks again for your time! I hope all the best :)
Great video Wilson. That last part is easily the most important. Having good solid well-built realistic financial projections is very important to benchmark your progress when you first start out. You need to know what to remove and what to add in from your menu and from your overall restaurant, and it all goes back to the numbers.

Hi Mr. Wilson. Can I personally ask more questions, my partner and I are planning to put up a restaurant and we find it hard to find the right concept best suited for us.
Thanks again Wilson. Love your videos, and all your great tips. I’m planning on opening a small restaurant in the spring of 23. Do you have any recommendations on where I can get a grant?? I did some research of some but got a lot of mixed reviews😳
Your videos are super helpful! Thanks! We are in the recovery stage from the pandemic and are struggling a bit but we will get through. What are your thoughts on combined restaurants similar to KFC/Taco Bell, 31-Flavors/Dunkin Donuts?
Wilson K Lee - How To Open A Restaurant / F&B Shop Again, thanks. I was planning (before pandemic) to launch a bubble tea & ramen shop; but, I’d modified the menu to do gyoza before adding ramen to the menu (still need to to research to see if my ideas are sound). Also, I was thinking about a Delivery Only option & just watched your Cloud Kitchen video. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 If I do launch in late summer as planned, I’ll send an invite, were in northern Ohio
Hi great videos Wilson... simple but clear. Im from belgium and about to take over a successful and famous thai restaurant with my thai girlfriend, since they are retiring early next year. My girlfriend already works in the kitchen there for almost a year, and the takeaway is booming now during corona, which is positive if i may say. Im thinking of implementing delivery if this situation lasts for months... any tips or advice most welcome! TIA! Thomas
I’m planning to open a restaurant with my husband, but we have no experience on the business at all, so I’d like to know if there is some place where we can have instructions, information and a guide about the procedures to run a restaurant. Thank you to anyone who can give me that information! 🙏
great video. what if you dont want to raise funds or partner up? i just want to start a small breakfast and lunch spot. I want to target the early commuters to work and offer a small seating area for the locals to sit and eat.
The plan is to identify problems and solve them, before you spend dollar one. Many places require you submit your menu to the health department before you open.
Hey thanks for all these videos! It’s amazingly helpful 🥰 maybe you can also help me to understand which course I should be in coz I’m really into pursuing my college degree. ☺️ I, though own a super small coffee shop now but still struggling with a lot of things. Thanks for your help!
Great info and helpful. But, the pounding sound for your talking points is annoying. Also, the speaking audio is difficult listening to because of the slight echo of the room. Try a sound dampened room. Great teaching though. Keep it up!
Do I need to go to culinary school to open a restaurant? I already know how to cook, have worked in a restaurant most of my life, have access to all of the free info on UA-cam, and can easily take a Master class. Is culinary school beneficial or a waste of time in today's day and age?
well one of the most effective ways to engage, and boost your sales is creating website and an app to brand your business and am an expert I can help you with this services
Hi Wilson. Just bumped into your vids and watched two lengthy ones without skipping an ad because i think I just have no right to. This is a FREE master class right here! Just got one question, as somebody who is just starting her small business.. what's better? Create a plan, then save the money I need to realize it, or create a plan and look for potential investors? To which I still don't have any idea how "share" works? Thanks!
Appreciate the kind words Ammarah!! There's no right or better option. That's because everyone has their own style of doing things. Some like to do it all themselves - which is totally commendable! Others prefer to seek help from others (ie. getting a partner or get funding from banks, investors, etc.) and get started quicker in exchange for giving away equity or having the pressure to return the money. That is totally fine and common too. You need to reflect on what suits you best. It is going to be hard either way :) And I bet you dind't know a lot of stuff before starting. Learning how share structure works will just be another thing to get an idea of. No - you won't be a master at all the complex structures, but you just need a general jist of it. Best of luck!
thank you , i really enjoy your videos.. I will start a food truck buisness in the next 3 months. should I apply the same concepts from your videos or its a little different for food trucks?
The general ideas are applicable but you'll want to consider the differences and make the relevant adjustments. For instance you'll be in a truck vs. a brick & mortar space; you are limited with inventory space + equipment, which would affect your financials and offering.

Can you make a video about equipment one needs for a restaurant kitchen
Aside from the equipment you need to create your food item. The 2 most overlooked, expensive kitchen expense is a kitchen hood and a grease trap. If the retail location you are looking at already doesn't have them, you'll end up paying a hefty price to install them.
You have to do your research in dept about what is needed for the kitchen area. Keep in mind the details cause they will drain your money away like silverware, you have to figure out ways not to keep losing then sometimes in the garbage. Also the breakage of plates.

But most staples for a kitchen is a double fryer, flat top, multiple stoves and ovens, grill, mixing equipment, prep tables, ladder racks, fridge and freezers, steam wells for stainless pans, dishwashing equipment, etc......
You need to indentify the concept first, the customers you gonna deal with. In another way the video maker needs to know you plan first to help you.

How’s biz going now?
I have an idea :
it's a new type of restaurants : eating-spots,
in an eating-spot, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate,
thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are way more powerful than restaurants,
along with that, there is an app,
people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days,
menu is influenced by the live input of the customers via a mobile app
Zo Wo that’s a great idea, but you need a big customer baseball time and and to handle them you gonna need big area (big area=more land)

SWOT analysis is crucial 👌🏾💪🏿
Hi great videos Wilson... simple but clear. Im from belgium and about to take over a successful and famous thai restaurant with my thai girlfriend, since they are retiring early next year. My girlfriend already works in the kitchen there for almost a year, and the takeaway is booming now during corona, which is positive if i may say. Im thinking of implementing delivery if this situation lasts for months... any tips or advice most welcome! TIA! Thomas
I love the sound effects. They catch my attention, which I’m sure you intended.🕵🏻♂️
Haha you're one of the few that likes it! Thank you for tuning in Sienna!
I love your videos man very helpful bro
I’m planning to open a restaurant with my husband, but we have no experience on the business at all, so I’d like to know if there is some place where we can have instructions, information and a guide about the procedures to run a restaurant. Thank you to anyone who can give me that information! 🙏
Finally found the great mentor on youtube for starting own business. Thank's a lot mate for sharing this!
My pleasure!
So do I need to build a management team first before making the business plan?
I'm currently alone in the restaurant idea..
Thanks this helps alot! Do you got a video how to write a good concept? Cant find it atm. Thanks:)
thank you!!!
you helped me a lot with a lot of ideas ,keep the videos coming .
Thanks, will do!
Thank you young guy for the tips!
Amazing video I learned quite a bit. Brief but VERY useful
Glad it was helpful! I didn't want to make it an hour long video haha
great video. what if you dont want to raise funds or partner up? i just want to start a small breakfast and lunch spot. I want to target the early commuters to work and offer a small seating area for the locals to sit and eat.
The plan is to identify problems and solve them, before you spend dollar one. Many places require you submit your menu to the health department before you open.
Great content. Where do you have the Business plan template?
Hey thanks for all these videos! It’s amazingly helpful 🥰 maybe you can also help me to understand which course I should be in coz I’m really into pursuing my college degree. ☺️ I, though own a super small coffee shop now but still struggling with a lot of things. Thanks for your help!
Great info and helpful. But, the pounding sound for your talking points is annoying. Also, the speaking audio is difficult listening to because of the slight echo of the room. Try a sound dampened room. Great teaching though. Keep it up!
bro u did a great job on explaining the business plan,You made it easy than i thought great job, keep on the good work, keep more videos coming
I appreciate that!

Been learning a lot from your videos. Thank you so much!
Glad to hear it Veronica! Are you starting a restaurant?
Do I need to go to culinary school to open a restaurant? I already know how to cook, have worked in a restaurant most of my life, have access to all of the free info on UA-cam, and can easily take a Master class. Is culinary school beneficial or a waste of time in today's day and age?
well one of the most effective ways to engage, and boost your sales is creating website and an app to brand your business and am an expert I can help you with this services
well am a 17 y.o boy who wanna learn about all this before becoming a full adult and have a proper plan and learn about this , years before starting
Hi! If you're trying to buy a business, how will you come up with P&L?
It is going to be hard either way :)
And I bet you dind't know a lot of stuff before starting. Learning how share structure works will just be another thing to get an idea of. No - you won't be a master at all the complex structures, but you just need a general jist of it. Best of luck!
I have huge goals. May Jesus guide me to get all 2500 stores open in 5 years
Thank you for all of this information! Also, what is the name of the instrumental playing?
Great information…..just one criticism, that sound effect when you post sentences or info on the screen is super annoying.
Thanks for this helpful video, i am planning to open restaurant cafe, and i need some sample business plan. Thank you
Glad it was helpful for you Haram!
excted to start my own food business bcos of this video!
Nice! What type of food business are you thinking of?
What about the template you mentioned in the beginning?
I love your work! Thank you😘
Thank you! 😊
it is very helpful to me thanks
thank you , i really enjoy your videos..
Thank you dear. God bless you
Superb. Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!
Tq so much u sharing the way😊
thank you so much for the insightful content.
Glad it was helpful Vikram! Are you running a restaurant or starting one soon?
