I owned a 6.0 diesel 05 i bought it when it was over 100,00 miles I spent near $10,000 on it. All top engine work. The engine blocks are sound. I don't have the truck anymore but I do know it has over 400,00 miles on it. The block is needing a rebuild, it has alot of blow-by between the piston rings, and cylinder walls. Important update is engine wire harness. Gets over looked with that many miles and the age the wires break down crack and corrosion works its way down the copper wires. Other updates: egr delete, standpipes, clean / shave heads at machine shop, injectors, glowplugs, buy the ipr valve, and icp sensor from Ford dealer only. Send the (ficm) that sits on driver side top of engine to get updated to handle more voltage, and a oil pan gasket. Thats the major work I had done. Engine works well with the edge tuner. @ that’s interesting. I’ve owned a lot of Fords and they have all been very reliable. I rolled a 6.0 pickup, the cab was smashed, but it still ran and drove after. 🤷🏼♀️
Its a crank no start issue after warmup. Im almost 100%sure its a oil pressure problem hook it up to computer to check that your electrical censors and IPR valve are in there piramitirs i think there's 4-5 piramitirs that are very important to keep an eye on. Oil pressure is how this engine starts. The fuel injectors fire from oil pressure. Other Important areas to check with rubber or nylon orings are: IPR VALVE, also a (pipe) under the turbo plate top side of engine block. There's 2 stand pipes and 2 dumby plugs on the engine heads with seals on them as well. This is no joke of an engine to mess with if it ask for some TLC it's going to let you know. Its most certainly worth fixing. But be prepared for quality care and maintenance and money to spend on it. 👍 Its a good engine👍.
At an several years ago I watched two guys in a bidding war go several hundreds of dollar over what a new implement could be purchased for. It’s like they were determined that the other guy wasn’t getting the implement. If I’m going to an auction to purchase something I’ve done my homework and only after I inspect said item will I make bids and I’ve got my top price and stop at it. I really think some people just get caught up in action of bidding and lose all sense of value of what there bidding on.
Don't buy unless you can do a thorough headgasket test first under load! You have to tee in a gauge into the cooling system and check for how fast the pressure increases to the 17 psi relief pressure.
@DauminiqueTheDumpTruckDriver Just be careful. A lot of these trucks needing huge repairs get dumped on the market. They could have replaced the degas bottle. You won't know it's bad until you start towing. -a current 6.0 owner.

The problem with 6.0 trucks here in BC where I'm is rust, the ones that are in decent shape body wise of a shit ton of kilometers. Ask Bobby please? I have a 2005 6.0 and I have a coolant leak that seams to coming from the back side of the engine on side of EGR cooler was located. It has had that removed and a delete already. Any ideas where the coolant could be coming from? It's dripping after shutting engine off and setting. After warm and pressure builds I assume. It drips between the oil pan and transmission onto the ground.
it is most likely a head gasket starting to fail. had the same problem with my old 6.0. the truck ran great while just driving around. i was loosing a little coolant on the passenger side after each drive. traced it back to the head area. it was running down the head and out the back of the block. hook it up to a trailer and tow something, or push the motor hard it will show itself. I had to redo the head gaskets. the truck was studded but it still blew. Use ford gaskets.

The 6.0 is the WORST Powerstroke ever built, followed closely by the 6.4. Those 2 engines are the reason Ford ended their long relationship with Navistar and designed their own engine. The 6.0 is prone to overheating, heads cracking, bearing damage, other expensive repairs. So bad they would overheat in summer, running empty on flat ground, at moderate speeds. Sure, some got lucky and got one that held up good, but remember, it was the shortest lived Powerstroke ever offered. Many same problems with the 6.4. 6.7 ok, but older 7.3 would be the best
The 7.3 is a good one. We have one of the last ones Ford put in their trucks in1993 and it has about 230,000 miles on it with the most significant issue being one glow plug requiring replacement which we would not have bothered with except the damned State of California smog mongers would NOT pass it because they think it would produce more smog. The fools don't realize that the glow plugs only operate during starting. Most of the time this engine will start WITHOUT using the glow plugs around here, just like a Cummins engine.
