As a kid watching these movies I dreamed of someday being a Hollywood stunt pilot and working at Tallmantz. I thought Mantz and Tallman were two of the best pilots that ever lived. I will be visiting your website (I think I already have).
From what I read The Great Waldo Pepper was a "passion project" for director George Roy Hill who also co-wrote it. He based Waldo mostly on Ormer Locklear. Hill was a pilot and aviation buff. BTW, I know it was just a slip but the the Battle of Britain was made in 1969, not '89.
Scott, I can't believe this video doesn't have any comments, I was so happy to find it. I worked at Tallmantz, and was lucky enough to be one of the pilots on Catch 22. I'm surprised how accurate you are about anything that I had some or personal knowledge of. It really was an emotional experience for me to watch this video. In the last few years I have visited Guaymas and San Carlos near to the location for catch 22 quite a few times. That film is well remembered there. I hope that I can share this short video with you. I used my DJI Spark to film it. It was really a big thrill to find some of the original set. ua-cam.com/video/5Yl9-YVun7k/v-deo.html
