It started with one but evolved to many different images and they started putting levels on them and listing them. No monsters, just liminal scary spaces with the uneasy feeling of being alone. Then a group who loved it then turned it into a story/horror type place. The creation of M.E.G and entities, which is still being evolved to this day. Then Kane Pixels also years later took upon the idea and made his own version but still using the same levels. Not just level 0 but connecting a bunch and adding his own story to it. So hate to tell you, Kane Pixels didn't even create the backrooms. His was just the one who got popular bc of the video.
@Konstantin They are, in fact, still levels, and levels are another name to determine where you are located. This is level 0, the most common place to end up. Just bc his story doesn't have no-clipping, doesn't mean it isn't still a level.

I know the backrooms is supposed to be liminal spaces, and liminal spaces are supposed to be nostalgic, but I felt a very odd feeling when seeing the image of it. It’s because when I was like 2, my parents went through Heathrow Airport, and we walked past this area. Seeing the imagine must have awoken some sort of memory in me, because I felt like it had something to do with an airport. The feeling wasn’t nostalgia, it was a real memory, just cloudy and obscured by my dumb child brain with its dumb child mental capacity.
I think what makes the original image so creepy is the weird fake "garden" they have made it look so fake. Its so absurd that they put a solid roof over the top, and not a glass one? guess for temperature efficiency?
I remember the engineer posted awhile back, saying they *did* want to make it more lively, and had a lighting system designed that turned out to be too dangerous to actually use. Also, that "fake floor" there is indeed designed to support a full floor above it.
It's rather funny to think that all this time, the location of the famous photograph was actually super close to me! I live in Maidenhead, about half an hour down the M4 from this hotel, and have passed it quite a fdfew times when heading to the airport to do some planespotting :)
There's a law that states that all bedrooms must have a window to outside and daylight, my theory is that the quantity of space and the grass inside is enough to qualify as outside. and the hole in the ceiling gives that required daylight
Considering that I've seen a lot of backrooms videos, this kinda makes my skin crawl. I would not want to stay there for a night. Well, maybe if someone paid me $2,000... BUT I'll be running for the front desk at checkout time!
