Fascinating how people were creative in developing torture techniques yet couldn't solve sewage and hygiene problems.

To be fair those are far more complicated and resource intensive. You aren't just making a chair, you would have to build a long channel through the entire city and somehow connect every single home to said channel. That's a massive undertaking.
You also have to know about germs to know about hygiene problems.

well in some cases, it is possible to stop the pain. in extremely critical circumstances, you get a surge of adrenaline and dopamine which numbs you to it. it's a very effective survival technique of the body. just too bad that it doesn't happen every time and it only lasts a very short amount of time.
You can actually overcome pain by becoming the pain itself and accepting it as normal. This requires alot of practice. Whenever you feel pain, dont resist against it but try to focus on it and relax.

i worked on an ambulance crew for two years. i had an elderly female patient who fell between her bed and her gas heater, lived alone, and wasn’t found for more than 40 hours. her burns were some of the worst i had ever seen. at a certain point, the brain just shuts down your cognition of the situation (shock) and the body produces all sorts of hormones that turns the pain into a fog.
most people don’t remember, or are even truly conscious during excruciating pain. we’re human, but we’re still just animals. the mind is fragile, and mostly not under our own control. excruciating pain, even unthinkable pain, is managed chemically by the brain.
i'll agree to the second part. i burned half of the skin off my forearm in a cooking accident and never felt a thing. not until after the surgery

An 80 year old friend of a friend is paralysed and a smoker, living alone. She fell asleep in her chair and her cigerette ignited her chair and her clothes and she couldn't move. Total burns all over. Amazing that she survived at all.

The mexican cartel peeled off this dudes entire skin off his head and face, so he looked like a still living skeleton with blood all over, kinda like Red Skull from Captain America. They were torturing him slowly and painfully.
During all of that, they were very careful not to kill him, and even more careful not to pull out the constant IV drip of epinephrine administered to him, which means he couldnt go into shock or lose consciousness and was more than awake and more than aware of his pain and situation.
Why is it called Funky Town execution? Because the torturers were listening to funky town on full blast in the background.

To be completely honest, I would have loved these tortures a lot more if they were experienced by people who were actually guilty of crimes. I don't like torture methods, because I just know half, if not all of these people were innocent being tortured. Innocent people experiencing pain just because they were either accused of a crime, or were framed, or they didn't have enough evidence and or, it was petty things they were being tortured for. Absolutely dreadful.

I’ve been to Bruges, to the house of torture where they would display all this. But holy shit this video made me ACTUALLY feel those things.
I once read that during the Ottoman empire there was a horrendous torture method used in which a pipe was inserted into the anus and then a rat was then put into the pipe which was then closed. So that the only way for the rat to proceed was by eating through the anus and further. I'm not sure if its true but it's always stuck with me after reading about it.

A lot of the torture techniques actually still exist and are still use quite often. The people who who do this stuff do it in disguise. Such as the German who was behind the "Human Centipede".
Also a lot of these torture methods don't even come close to some of the things the cartels down in Mexico do when torturing someone. So he left out a lot of more brutal techniques in all honesty.

Plus most torture devices names have some kind of important and descriptive quality to them, which Diogenes from what I know wouldn’t have any reason to have a torture method named after him

Tbh, I think getting sawed in half, hanging upside down, with all four limbs sprawled apart, starting from the crotch, and sawing all the way through to the head is by far the worst torture any human can endure.

Nah, I made up a torture where you tie somebody up by the ankles, wrists, and upper body, cover the persons mouth so they can't breathe, cut open an animal just big enough to fit the person in a fetal position, take the guts out, close up any holes, put them inside, sew the animal up and wait until they run out of oxygen and suffocate.

I feel like the people who carried out these tortures on the so called ”criminals” or ”sinners” are the ones who looked like psychopaths. I mean, if you truly are a good person then how can you do something like this to another human being or even come up with these kind of ideas. Why not just sentence the person to life inprisonment for What they have done and let them die naturally when its time for them. I feel like that would be the most suitable punsihment

I think it was the last one because it’s not like someone’s jaw can pop off or their brain go through their ears. Though, the best torture device is tying someone on a giant clock, as each minute goes by, they slowly get ripped apart.
