    My wife and I remember the Apollo missions. We sat here mesmerized by your little graphic production you shared. So lifelike, flawlessly smooth.
    Your work experience shows in your work. Whether it's the bonsai trees, the community garden, or the plant room. You're using your knowledge in a quiet, almost humble way.
    Keep teaching us, your students.

      Thanks R man, glad you liked the animations! The models were rendered and used in a 50th anniversary Apollo 11 book! My dad worked on a small piece for the Lunar Module, so as a kid I got to read all kinds of trade magazines that were just full of Apollo technical stuff! It was a moon landing crazy world back then that involved so many people. I can see that unless you grew up in that era, no one would believe how it was all accomplished.

      Wiring bonsai trees goes back a while, but compared to the historical time line of bonsai, it is only about 2 hundred years old compared to bonsai being around for over 2 thousand years. Here is an article that explains the history of bonsai....

    I just had a thought. Wouldent it be a good idea to use batchroom building methods when making a plant room? In my head that would make the most sence.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому

      Yes, high humidity is a problem and combined with a leaky roof, it will rot out a room quickly! I'm hoping to solve the roof problem with a flat sloped roof and everything inside will get sealed up much better. I'm hoping to get an outside greenhouse going with heat and the plant room will become more of a studio for making videos.

    Does ny of ur bonsai go wrong ? Or it died off completely unexpected? Or emmersed as altogether diff. than originally envisioned?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, I have a lot of trees that don't make it, sometimes too much root pruning, sometimes borer insects and the winter cold gets them too. I've only had one winter in 27 years where I didn't loose a single tree!
      Yes, the design I envision sometimes doesn't work well with the tree, I want to do one thing and the tree wants to do another! The tree always wins and I have to adapt my styling to suit the growth of the tree. Always work with the tree, never against it!

  • @charleswomack4480

    I have yet to see you use wire on any of your trees. Are you strictly using clip and grow?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому +1

      No I will use wire if I feel it is the only solution, or the best solution to fix a perceived problem! I do try and develop the trees without wire, and try to come up with creative or alternate solutions instead. I really dislike wire marks on trees so I try not to use it!

    Very cool stuff at the end. Last year we were at Lime Rock Park raceway during the anniversary of the launch. My son brought his little Saturn V rocket to play along with all the other small cars and trains. While he was playing, the track's photographer took a photo of my son. He was flying it around after taking off from my head. The picture was posted on the track's social media site. We were able to contact the photographer, and he said it was his favorite photo of the weekend!
    Have not kept up with your videos lately. Wow, some crazy plant room improvements going on! My goodness what happened? I thought you recently had a new roof put on. I must have missed the video of you first showing all this damage?
    Best of luck on this major project.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому

      Yes, I had the first half of the room done last year, the same people started the second and more difficult part of the room this year. I didn't like the work, so I ended up doing it myself. I went from the complex peaked roof that always leaked to a flat sloped roof design. The roof always seem to leak and after many years, it rotted out almost everything. It has been a big project that has taken up half the summer and all of fall!
      Sounds like a cool picture of your son, I'm enjoying all the space missions lately, can't wait for the 2020 Mars Rover to land!

    What equipment do you use for the 3d modeling; hardware and software? It looks so real, that's amazing!

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому +2

      I use a PC desktop, 5 years ago it was the state of the art! I've done a few upgrades, so it is still really good for graphics. I've used many different modelling software, Maya, Blender AutoCad, but most was done using Unigraphics, a solid modelling package. Thanks the spacecraft are very difficult to animate as much of the materials rely on reflections from the sun and the moon. I think I got as close to realistic as I could get back then as much of this animation was developed up to 7 years ago.
