James Cameron is one of the few artists today I think is a genuine genius. Artist, filmmaker, scientist and explorer, just crazy what this guy has done in his career.
@@vairakkann8278 you forgot inventor and engineer. He designed things like the helmets for The Abyss and the 3D cameras for Avatar--he basically told Sony how he wanted the camera to be made, and they built it for him.

I love how he just gushes. Honestly it's one of the greatest feelings in the world as an artist explaining your own art to someone. You never want to stop talking 😅
so cool getting so many background information on where the ideas came from for his movies or parts of it. The fact with Qorianka Kilcher inspiring the looks of Na'vi really blew my mind
James Cameron is a well known fan of HEAVY METAL magazine. I remember he was in line for making a movie based on them at one point. His art looks like one of the covers.
This is absolutely awesome. As a trained fine artist, game artist and wanting to look at the film industry, this looks like an absolute brilliant exhibition. I’m so be interested in going to see. Not kidding, I’m actually thinking now about having my return flight from Spain for my upcoming holiday diverted to Paris so I can check this exhibition out.😆👌🏼 This would soooo be worth it.
I always show this video to my visual art students. Not in spite of not going to University. Perhaps because he didn't go to University.....What a guy! boundless enthusiasm for a challenge.
This guy must've been beyond honored to spend such personal time with this legend beyond a mastermind and getting such tour with him. That's beyond insane, there are people who would die for such experience
I love James Cameron. He is living my childhood dream. At 16, I said I would be a Renaissance Man: artist, writer, scientist, filmmaker, but I just didn't know how to make it a reality. Afraid to just quit my job and go for it...Still, nice to see that an artist can create an empire that includes scientific endeavors. I still have drawings from 45 years ago, of creatures, aliens, and heroes that existed in my imagination. Got ripped off when I sent my storyboards, hoping to be discovered, but the studio told me that "coincidences happen all the time...because folks can have similar ideas."
@@juni8745 Thanks for the encouragement! I did join a local filmmakers club. Won a screenplay contest. Made a couple of short films, but they are not quite ready for Hollywood. Still trying to live for today and forget the lost years. (I hope you have enough success for the both of us.😎)
🎉Thank you! It's so cool to learn how a master creates his works! Cameron, for me, as for many, is a great man who made a revolution not only in cinema, but also in our souls, our hearts!♥
James Cameron is one of the greatest directors of all time! Some don't consider him so because he is not that "artistic", but how many directors have his "feeling" and understanding of storytelling in cinema. A true master in his art. Great director!
Directors come from diverse backgrounds, including acting, screenwriting, and even unrelated fields. What's more important is their ability to understand storytelling, work with actors, manage a production team, and bring a vision to life on screen. Illustration skills can certainly be beneficial in certain aspects of filmmaking, such as storyboarding, but they are not a requirement for becoming a successful director.
WOW! A genius! I am ashamed that I didn't even know that he was this great of an artist. I knew he drew but didn't know it was to this level! Just bought the book from Amazon for my collection!
As a big comic book fan, I can't help but wonder if the comic industry missed out on getting a huge talent like Cameron working in comics instead of film. That's not to say I'm complaining that he did film, instead. I love the vast majority of his work. That he's an artist further informs his film work in ways I hadn't realized before. It makes sense that he has such an eye for visuals and spectacle.
Would have loved to see every drawing by him, in a closeup shot. Now just some were shown. There's no way to find all of these online, shame they didn't film it more
James Cameron, Zack Snyder. Quentin Tarantino, Jon Favreau, Spike Lee. These five artists are a *wealth of behind the scenes info* that one requires to become an artist. You can listen to them talk all day about filmmaking!!!!!
No mention of Terminator 2? Not just his most revolutionary film, but one of the most revolutionary films ever made. Avatar wouldn't have been possible without that film.
@@samokazem2211 One film leads to another in terms of technology. The Abyss was a test for T2, so no it wouldn't have been. However, The Abyss wouldn't have been possible without earlier CGI work, like Tron and Young Sherlock Holmes. So again, one leads to another. T2 was more important, because it was the first MAIN CGI character. The Abyss was only 18 or so shots, in just one part of the movie. It could have been removed from the film had it not worked. The T1000 was the main villain of T2, and a main character, and had around 52 shots, and could not have been removed from the movie, had it not worked. Those shots were spread throughout the film, unlike The Abyss which was just one scene, so the CGI HAD to work for the film to work. The T1000 had to be a threat to the heroes, and the audience. They had to buy that this villain could do all these extraordinary things, things that could only be achieved with convincing CGI. If the CGI had not convinced, it would have ruined the entire movie. So the T1000 was really the first CGI character, when it wasnt actually Robert Patrick, to be important to a films narrative storytelling structure. CGI characters before T2, could all have been taken out of the films, if they hadnt have worked. The stories in those films, didnt revolve around the CGI, like T2's does. They weren't really important to the stories being told. In Terminator 2 the T1000 was important to the story being told, so removing the character if it hadn't have worked wasnt an option.
Huge fan of Cameron. But it’s kind of funny considering the topic of this video, , I actually prefer the theatrical version of Aliens because I think the directors cut includes scenes that didn’t need to be in the film. But I do love the extended version of The Abyss
