I just had this issue and found the reason for it was a bad battery. Apparently these cars can conceal a bad battery pretty easily. After load testing it i had 350 cranking amps. Major drop in load. Nothing regarding these vvt solenoids made sense to me. I was a mechanic for over 20 years and my oil stays super clean and my car only had 30k miles but is almost 8 years old with the original battery. My wife drives it and I noticed when it started it seemed a tad weak. I said it looks like a voltage drop when you start it. Based on the age of the battery we opted to replace it. I test them just to confirm and sure enough it was bad. I think the low voltage effected activating the solenoids. These cars draw a lot of power. She runs her seat warmers, heated steering wheel, and jams her tunes loud. Before you start tackling the solenoids or sensors load test your battery and make sure you have 600 cranking amps minimum. That was my experience. I hope this helps.
Nice video. I’m in the market for an Infiniti fx37 2012 has somewhat high highway miles at 165 but has code P0021. Would this be considered a true problem for the engine and tranny of the vehicle?
My Engine rattles intermittently between 1200-1800 rpm at speeds below 40 mph and I get the code P0021 seldomly after resetting it. Ive replaced the 4 Camshaft Position Sensors and both Solenoids with dealer parts and run Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer with every oil change. What do you think I should do next?
I have bank 1, bank 2 timing over advanced codes. Replaced both solenoids with oem hitachi and the codes came back. I have that rattle too at low Rpm’s. Did you ever fix yours ?
@@twinturbobmw535xi7 no, I think it is Timing Chain rattle. One of the Sprockets or Tensioners is bad, throwing the Timing Chain off/ stretching it and causing the P0021 code.
Question!! I have both of those codes! Engine when engine is cold works property after it warms up it stutters and i cant go over 2300k rpm. Without the car really acting up.
@@twinturbobmw535xi7did you ever find out the problem/ cause? I’m in the process of buying an fx37 w the P0021 code and I wonder if it’s a dealbreaker?

Hey I have codes P0011, p0014 timing over advance. I replaced both solenoids with oem hitachi. When you’re really light on the gas pedal at low rpm’s I have interninemt rattle. Cleared codes and they came back along with P0420. Could there be another problem? Dosent seem like there’s any drivability issues. It even seems to shift into gear smoother after replacing the solenoids, it used to shift into drive or reverse a little hard. Now it’s smooth. But i still have the same codes and now I have P0420 as well.
Hey, it's great that the shifting feels smoother after the solenoid replacement! Keep an eye on those codes, and maybe try some additional troubleshooting steps to see if there's another underlying issue.
@@koookiiieif you replaced the solenoids and cam sensors , the only other option would be oil galley gaskets behind the timing chain or a bad timing chain tensioner. Which you would have to replace anyway if you decide to replace the oil galley gaskets. I sold my car , didn’t wanna do all that work. I just did my timing belt and tensioner on my Acura mdx /tensioner was bad and was making my engine make a knocking noise that sounded like a bad lifter. Noise went away. So loose chain or belts can cause codes , the only difference is I believe the g35 timing chain tensioner is controlled by oil pressure. So I would do an oil pressure test and see if it’s within spec or not. Start there. Some reported having oil light come on , my car didn’t. Start up rattle disappeared after replacing the valve timing solenoids. But when I would be cruising at low rpm’s or revving it at low rpm and hold it, it started rattling. That’s the only time it would do it. So check your oil pressure specs and go from there.
@@OhMaccc your galley gaskets are blown, unfotunately. limp mode gets activated when the car sense low oil pressure due to said gaskets failing. requires full timing cover removal to get to them. tedious job, but not terrible.
Recently replaced my valve cover gasket, and after I put everything back together and took it for a drive, my G37 threw a p0011, p0021, and then a p0300. It went into limp mode before stalling out, after I started the car again, it was idling and driving Really rough. As suggested from your video, I cleared the codes, and did the re-learn procedure and ripped around whole revving the engine. No codes. Hopefully it wasn’t anything serious.

All the Nissan 3.5s seem to have timing chain/oil galley gasket problems causing those timing codes.

Check your gallary gasket
You likely need chains and tensioners/water pump and more ...
@@alfee9411 Its not those. Its a gallery gasket failure

Same 🤦♂️
You have to change the solenoid
Check oil pressure as well. Low oil pressure will also cause these codes.
Lmk if you fixed it and how you fixed it please
