Been six packing REL subs for months now and it's a game changer for me. I've heard systems that cost 4 or 5 times my system but I will take my system over those any time any day. It's not even close and I'm talking about systems that cost between $250k and $300k. What this stack does is unbelievable. The top pair is where the magic lies. Started with a pair and was very impressed. When I added the second pair, I wasn't that impressed but the third pair made all the difference. The top pair didn't feel like subs. It improved the imaging and soundstage so significantly I said to myself this must be hallucination. You get to hear this folks. What John Hunter said is pretty much true. I'm a certified 6Packer.

I was kidding. Bass is NOT directional. Rel makes tiny subs. But to compete with brands that makes 16s, 18s and 21s, they apply physics and have you stack their small sealed subs.
When you stack, you get a linear 6db more output gain across the frequency range on the 2nd one, and another 3 db linear output, gaining 9db total.
A 9db total gain on a tiny sub like the ones rel makes, makes it sound like a much bigger sub. Thats what happens when you add more.
But the way John hunter sells is, as if bass is directional and you get this magic effect when you get a 3rd one on top is straight BS.
JTR's cheapest sub is still probably better or matching rels cheapest 6 pack option at much less the cost

Those are impressive towers of deep-bass power, and I'm convinced that this array performs just as well as you suggest. However, 6 REL Carbon subwoofers would add up to a total of $16,494, minimum, for the lowest-priced S/510 model at $2,749.00 each. An audio investment like that OUGHT to wow me. You'll have to forgive those of us with modest incomes when we conclude, sadly, that this is more than we can afford to spend...

Can you explain how the setup works? Each sub is set to a different frequency range. The bottom sub will be the lowest frequency meaning dividing the 6 packs to 3 ranges? Do you sill connect the LFE and to which one do you connect the line? Is only one cable connected to the amp and the rest are interconnected between the subs? thanks!

Settings speakers to LARGE in AV system is WRONG. Rel are doing it incorrectly. This setup is ok for a regular Hifi- however if you've got standmounts then ideally want to high pass then. Which the Rel's don't do. Nor do the Rel's offer subwoofer EQ. It's a complete joke.

Even if you have one or two subs just generally lifting them up from the floor will improve accoustics. It's just room physics. The best place for the sub is in the middle of the height of the room, but as you understand that's not very practical, but it works.

Speaker arrays double output so 6 subs in an array is like having 12. Will need to reduce output to not overwhelm the room and lower output means speakers operate where they have less distortion. This is why some audiophile speakers have the woofer at the top and bottom of a speaker, it makes an array. Arrays are good, just increases cost and size.

I have heard John Hunter to say that you can use the home theatre subwoofers in a line array too. I imagine he would set them up in the same way. The subwoofers on the floor would deal with the lowest base, the ones in the middle set slightly higher in the crossover and the top ones slightly higher again to give you that full spread of bass loveliness.

My eyes water and I'm filled with shame for owning RELs whenever I hear John Hunter talk about bass. He and the REL brand are so full of shit, let me expose some of their marketing garbage.
    1. Bass isn't directional. WTF he talking about here? Floor bass? Bass at chest level...that's not how this works
    2. All stacking subs like this does is increase SPL level by a few db with each additional sub. If you need more output, get a bigger sub
    3. High level input doesn't give a 'pure' signal it just takes away your ability to DSP
    4. In another video, he time aligns the sub to the speakers by ear...laughable
    5. Class AB amps are not the best choice for subs, but it seems they're moving away from that
    6. Can you put another logo on my sub? Gaudy POS wrapped in marketing BS. No wonder audiophiles love this brand
RELs don't sound bad, in fact I still run 2 T5i's I bought when I didn't know shit. Compared to other brands like SVS, Hsu, RSL, Monoprice..you get less for your money, and I've lost all pride in ownership as I've learned more about stereo acoustics in a room and how nonsensical REL marketing is.
There is one use case where the REL method shines. If you don't want to add dsp AND you put sub(s) right next to your speakers, the REL high level input could possibly have less delay than plate amps from other manufacturers.
There's no doubt the set up in this video will sound good but if you only have 2 floor spots to place subs, you're better off buying 2 capable subs instead of 6 subpar ones that could interfere with one another without proper DSP and EQ. If you actually want to run 6 subs, check out Sound Reproduction by Floyd Toole, one of the greatest minds in acoustic science. The complete opposite of John Hunter...is he a swindler or an idiot?
