    Thank you for the video, it is very helpful. Would you consider doing a vid on how to repair/ polish the fronts of the chair? Thanks again.

    Thank you so much for this. My mom found four and dragged them across town for me. But they are cracked and need new paint. I’m hoping to find a video where someone does patching where they chipped them and repaint them!!!!!

    Hey, for those of us who aren't going to get a grind-wheel for this, what grit sandpaper do you recommend?

    I've the same with Vitra ones (modern version). Can you just glue them back with 2 component glue or epoxy?

    Well done! Your step to step instruction is clear and easy to understand. Also your supply buying suggestions were helpful. Thanks

    A friend and her sister inherited a bunch of the stack shell chairs from a family business. They are both extremely large women, and they were slowly destroying these things. One of them over 600 pounds. Now that they know what the chairs are worth, they are only sitting in the ones that already look like they are 1000 years old with stress fractures and bent mounts. None of their mounts have broken like yours, and now I'm afraid they're going to fall on their butts! But what happens on their chairs is, because they have so much of their weight behind them, they sit with the bulk of their weight over the front of the chair, and they bend the front of the metal mounts, so the seats lean forward a bit. But worse, if they continue to sit in them once the mounts are bent, they get stress fractures in ring shapes on the top surface of the seats. All four mounts, but especially the front. That, and the front corners of the chairs are cracked. The worst of them crack along the side and back, too. Wondering if they can be reinforced, or reconditioned if I can convince them to not use them anymore.
    Another restaurant has new versions of the wooden base shell chairs, and they sit gingerly in those things and they bend and creak so much I'm afraid they'll end up on the floor! If those chairs felt as sturdy as the old ones, we'd get some of them as homage to their old business so they could spare the antiques.

    Wow, nice job, you make it look easy!
    Does the black super glue show through to the top when used on white or light coloured shells?
    And you mentioned that you polish the top of the chair rather than using Penetrol. Any recommendations for a polish?

    How does one do the same thing with an Eames polypropylene DSR chair? I have one where the little threaded nub broke off.

    Is it better to use a Phillip's or Robeetdon driver with those screws?

    The chair I own needs all the shock mounts replaced. How do I properly line them up if I don't have two original mounts as a guide?

    Will epoxy stick to painted wood? I’m building a coffee table and want to use shock mounts to attach eames chair legs under the table top. It’s too thin to use screws so I thought of shocks mounts. Thx for any suggestions you may have!

    Hello! Thanks for the video! I have that chairs and was looking to spray paint them in another colour. Do you think is a easy material for spray paint? Do you recommend me any paint brand? Thank you so much

    • @brettknoss486
      @brettknoss486 4 роки тому +1

      There is plastic spray paint. I suspect that the plastic is polyester resin, so check that the paint is for polyester. I wouldn't try changing the color, but for touch up or refreshing, it should work fine.

      You could also try evening things out with a polyester body filler like Bondo(tm), if there are any strands poking out

    Just picked up one of these today for a steal but unfortunately whoever owned it before me drilled holes thru the chair to attach the legs instead of just replacing the mounts. Any advice how to repair the holes?

    • @grrrrrpap
      @grrrrrpap 2 роки тому +1

      Stephen, the holes you see are normally present on the padded or upholstered models. People often remove the upholstery or padding as part of a restoration and this exposes the holes. There is a trick to filling the holes, which is to sand some of the fibreglass off the chair and then mix that coloured powder created (wear a mask when sanding these chairs, fibreglass dust is EXTREMELY bad for your lungs) and mix that with some expoxy. Then fill the hole with the expoxy, put tape on both sides. When had sand it smooth and you will have similar looking holes. Not perfect, but much better then generic fill. Good luck!
