Thanks a lot mam 🇧🇩🇧🇩🙏🙏
Thamk Umri!
I could hear the sound of the Tanpura all day.
I like to listen to Indian classical music, but I never knew which instrument made this sound and how. Thank you for this explanation and demonstration! :)
Was goggling Tanpura and ended up,here. How did I miss this? Wonderful explanation as always.
Thank you. This was one of my initial videos.
I am inspired to sing in Sanskrit along with tanpura. I am a male, but have found that the key of A# (middle, 6.5 kattai, not the very low A#) is perfect for my voice. This is the range of the female tanpura. My question is this: do males ever play female tanpuras? Is it based solely on musical compatibility or is there more to it? Please let me know. I love your videos, explanations, and beautiful energy! Thank you!! Jai ma!
I came here to learn a bit about it, but then you mentioned the notes pa and sa...this is new to me. I only know regular western notes. I love the hypnotic sound. I learned a bit about Indian music through listening to George Harrison and The Beatles.
In Western solfege,
Sa = Do (root note)
Pa = So (5th)
Very educational. The sound of the tanpura is almost divine.
Thank you very much for explaining an instrument I have always been curious about!
Very informative and well put together video, just what I needed, thanks.

Do you like tanpura moooost??. Can you play tanpura??.
सुंदर माहिती! खूप खूप धन्यवाद👍👌💐
I first heard the sound of this beautiful instrument during a nada yoga class in India. Since then I have fallen in love with it. How can I learn to play it? Is it difficult? Can I use it for music therapy?
It is very easy to play. You just have to pluck the strings one after the other in succession. Unfortunately, I don't know about music therapy, you will have to ask an expert in that field.

Thank youu
Wow! Good information!! Mam
Thank you! 😊
Madm string instruments me tabla or triple aata h kya please reply 🙏
Why it doesn't sound like a plucked string like the guitar or banjo? What exactly makes it sound like it is resonating with something?
the bridge is made in a specific way to buzz like this and have lots of overtones - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jivari
@@maxinehardy9411 In Indian terminology, the overtones are known as Svayambhoo svara-s = self born notes. The electronic Tanpura-s cannot produce them.
The jiva (little threads that run under the strings) enhance the overtones
If you look up the term "jawari" you will find much information on how the bridges work

What is length of string ??
Just curious Urmi, how is the tempo/ timing maintained for the Tanpura player? Needless to say, excellent tutorial and a very elegantly attired hostess. Thank you.
In a male tanpura, are the middle two strings tuned to the regular or tonic Sa? Please clarify, because in this video ua-cam.com/video/xbW94-sHLF0/v-deo.html, the middle two Sa refer to the tonic Sa, I think. Please clarify
What is price of this tanpura?
Mam how much strong th pumpkins are! are they using any cotting on the pumpkin ,for its Safety,,,,,pls replay mam ,🙏
These pumpkins are quite strong. They are also used for making boats. However, the Tanpura as such has to delicately handled.

Tune the Tanpura. Listen carefully and try to hear Sa. Then sing Sa - hold as long as you can. Repeat a few times. Then sing other notes one-by-one. That can be followed by sargams and paltas.
Ma'am what is the difference between male and female tanpura
The pitch range is different. I have explained here: ua-cam.com/video/waCFEQL_Ee8/v-deo.html
@@UrmiMusic ma'am which is for higher sounds? Also I'm a boy but I sing in higher notes. Which one will be better for me?
@@manazon6945 Do you know which note your Sa is?
@@UrmiMusic ma'am I'm a classical western musician
Just trying this instrument for the first time. I usually sing in female scales. Soprano. So I need a tanpura that can either play both or higher notes
@@manazon6945 This is a drone instrument, not used for playing melodies.
Hai how can do tanpura tunings
pa sa sa C C//
You will need a male Tanpra for C pitch.
