"I am confident that these exciting developments will become a springboard for the further success of tourism in Ilocos Norte and the Philippines and from this moment onwards," President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said as he led the inauguration of the Pagudpud Tourist Rest Area (TRA) at Saud Beach in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte on May 17, 2024.
The President expressed his elation at the inauguration of the TRA, saying that it “is an important initiative for us to transform the Philippines into a tourism powerhouse in Asia.”
He also emphasized the collaboration between the national government and local government units (LGUs) as instrumental in the successful completion of the TRA, contributing to national progress.
The Chief Executive highlighted the tourism potential of Ilocos Norte, citing impressive visitor numbers and recent accolades, including Saud Beach's recognition as one of the '25 Most Beautiful Beaches in the World' by Travel & Leisure magazine.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase our world-class destinations such as the Paoay Church, Sand Dunes, and the Malacañang of the North, at ito nga Saud Beach, among others," he underscored.
In addition to promoting existing attractions, the President revealed that the government is investing in infrastructure projects such as the Ilocos Norte Transportation Hub and the expansion of Laoag International Airport.
Moreover, efforts to preserve natural and cultural heritage are underway, including the development of the Ilocos and Pangasinan Regional Historical Trail and conservation initiatives in protected areas like the Kalbario-Patapat Natural Park.
"Let us work together to build a Bagong Pilipinas where we give our people the life that they deserve," President Marcos Jr. concluded in his speech.
