I’m a Texan and I’m totally in support of beans in my chili. Without beans chili is a topping. Put it on rice or fries or hot dogs but beans give it some heft.

I just made this recipe for dinner. About the 3-hour mark of simmering, I divided about half the chili to a second pot, and added some red kidney beans, and let it simmer another hour. I tasted beans/no beans side by side. Made a Frito pie with chili and shredded cheddar. They were both excellent! Thanks for the recipe!
Honestly...I grew up with the beans because it made the meal go further. It meant the meal had protein iron and Fibre. When you have a lot of people to feed on a budget...we add beans.

Growing up in Florida in a home where we didn't have much, my momma and Aunt always served chili over white rice to make it stretch. And if she didn't use rice, she always served it with cornbread.

You must try adding dark red kidney beans instead of pinto beans. I used to use pinto chili beans but they seem to make my chili chauk like and they always make everyone gassy! 😱Dark red kidney beans have a natural sweetness . To make your chili "poot-proof always put your 2 or 3 cans of beans in a collander and rinse several times until the water is clear and not foamy. @@James-FL
I think the reason why so many people from Texas especially, say that real chili has no beans, is because supposedly back when cowboys were riding out of town and treking far away, they would stop in the mountains or plains and make a fire. Then they'd make chili. Without beans. Legend has it, old Billy the kid once had to share his tent with another cowboy. Prior that evening, they made chili for the first time, and it had beans. After a long night in the tent with his 'tent mate' it was all Billy could do to keep from shooting the poor bastard. 😆 Since that night, cowboys have been cooking chili with NO beans over an open fire ever since...
Beans, unless you're deliberately going vegetarian or something, are for when you don't have enough proper protein to finish the job. I don't like the flavor, and they just get too stringy and quasi-popcorn mouth for me.
When I was in high school,we had a snack bar where the manager made a restaurant size pot of homemade chili for Frito pie. She would cut the bag lengthwise add some shredded cheese and a spoon. She lined them up and poured chili in when we ordered one. We could have it with jalapenos. I'll never forget it.
They always had this for sale at little league baseball games in Texas the 1970’s. A few of the moms would set up a card table with a crockpot of chili and single serve bags of Fritos. Some offered shredded cheddar and some had a second crockpot of melted cheese to pour on top. It was great.
Weird, bolgnese here is similar, but different. Chili is more sweet and spicy and bolognese is more savory and creamy, i make it with carrots, celery, heavy cream and cooking wine. Most people put it over spaghetti, but i do egg noodles because I don't care for spaghetti haha @laurapalmerTDGE
I’m in SC. Lived in TX, CO, AL, MS and if we want chili beans we make chili beans. If we want chili over noodles or on hotdogs or burgers we don’t put beans in but I love it both ways! No need to fuss about it do what you want!!!! It’s all good food ❤

I grind up my own hamburger, I take a flat iron steak and cut that up into small pieces and I add beans, I also use beef broth, I have a few top secret ingredients that I'd rather not share, maybe I'll make a video!
You can cook beans on the side. And place some on top. That’s what a popular Texas UA-camr does. Also if you eat it the chili with some good quality corn bread and high quality home made tortillas, it does compensate for lack of beans

Beans + this on top of rice 🤌 I just made a huge batch with all the peppers and spices we grew in the garde fresh it was soooo good i ate it 8 days im a row and still have a bunch frozen🤣 This batch was the nest ive ever made but the last batch that was the best had bison like yours does, not alot just 1lb but it adds such a deeper flavor.
I am a Texan, 4th generation, we were at the Alamo and have been here before Texas was part of the USA. Beans belong ON THE SIDE and never in the chili!!!! Beans cooked in the chili "muddy" the flavor of a good Texas chili.

Chili with beans is no longer chili. It is called a cassoulet. Aside from that, seasonings all seem appropriate, but I prefer a coarser grind or even a dice to my chili meat. It makes it more hearty and less mealy. For a different twist, try a cup of your favorite fresh brewed coffee instead of the cocoa.
I started leaving beans out years ago. I'm like I no like beans and I'm making it. So, no beans after that I never looked back. If you don't like an ingredient it doesn't have to be there. Even if it's in the name. When your the cook make it YOUR way!!! You make some great stuff that way. 😉😋😉

The original Texas chili was no beans, but all foods evolve with taste. Original Texas BBQ was never served with BBQ sauce. Now all of the BBQ joints have sauce on the side.

I serious question the idea that Texan chili doesn’t have beans. My dad has a chili recipe that he actually got from a Texas cookbook which contains beans in it. That was the kind of chili I grew up with. Also I can’t really fathom the idea of eating chili without beans anyway.
As a topping on burgers and hotdogs I prefer it without beans. But as a main dish it definitely needs beans. Not putting beans in is sorta like making an Italian style meat sauce and not including a pasta.
I’ve had a UP Gunny 3V on Pre Order for about 2 years. My only Bark River came with minor flaws/imperfections two in the uniformity of the handle, one in the grind which is fixing itself with time. It did not bother me as I know they are hand ground and is truly a gorgeous blade. Being they have taken so long to make the UP Gunny I have since lost interest, just some input if they are reading this. I plan on purchasing a Creely Mako or Cold Steel Kukri instead.

No chili NEEDS beans but they do go great in a pot of chilli and really help stretch out the pot for bigger families.

Instead of the cocoa powder, I just drop a few Hershey kisses in my chili, works great to counteract the acid in the tomato paste!

I started leaving beans out years ago. I'm like I no like beans and I'm making it. So, no beans after that I never looked back. If you don't like an ingredient it doesn't have to be there. Even if it's in the name. When your the cook make it YOUR way!!! You make some great stuff that way. 😉😋😉

@safeandeffectivelol I believe you. Some Texans have this massive hard on for being a definitive Texan, and they have a whole dogma around it. You know what I mean. Oklahoma sucks, everything is bigger in Texas, no beans in chili, Austin isn't part of Texas... Crazy stuff like that. I know that many people will disagree with me, that's why I said it would make me a heretical Texan. I am contrary to popular belief. Maybe it's the 5G making me into a soy boy. Maybe it's wind mills. Who knows?
@@OBTX91 Beans or no beans is just a preference. I don't know why people get so worked up over it. I never liked beans of any kind, so no beans in my chili. The original Texas chili was no beans, but all foods evolve with taste. Original Texas BBQ was never served with BBQ sauce. Now all of the BBQ joints have sauce on the side.

I serious question the idea that Texan chili doesn’t have beans. My dad has a chili recipe that he actually got from a Texas cookbook which contains beans in it. That was the kind of chili I grew up with. Also I can’t really fathom the idea of eating chili without beans anyway.

As a topping on burgers and hotdogs I prefer it without beans. But as a main dish it definitely needs beans. Not putting beans in is sorta like making an Italian style meat sauce and not including a pasta.

I’ve had a UP Gunny 3V on Pre Order for about 2 years. My only Bark River came with minor flaws/imperfections two in the uniformity of the handle, one in the grind which is fixing itself with time. It did not bother me as I know they are hand ground and is truly a gorgeous blade. Being they have taken so long to make the UP Gunny I have since lost interest, just some input if they are reading this. I plan on purchasing a Creely Mako or Cold Steel Kukri instead.
