I'm glad that Kion and Jasiri were able to make amends with the hyenas and lions. It really shows how both of them are great leaders! The history of both those animals was tainted because of the excessive hunting that the hyenas did. Plus the fact that Scar was using them. It's as Mufasa said, "we are all connected in the great circle of life."
Maybe Jasiri should of went to the Pride lands sometime, maybe to help Kion and the Guard defend the circle of Life from Makuu the crocodile, Not all Outlanders are Bad some actually enjoy obeying the Circle of Life, and even ask for the Lion Guards help because Kion has helped Jasiri many times before, like when Janja wanted to have her for lunch in never Judge a Hyena by it,s spots, there was also rescue in the outlandish too, that was the episode that led Janja’s path to redemption.

In reality, predators of different species don't tolerate each other because they're competitors and compete for similar resources. Any chance they'll have at killing a rival, they'll take it. Killing each others' offspring would mean getting rid of future competitors. This is called Interspecific competition. In order to decrease this, predators of different trophic levels fill different niches.😊

Yeah but we're talking about a family movie and a show aimed at little ones with talking animals, so naturally, the critters are gonna think more like people being slightly anthropomorphic (as in their mindset is more like people's mindset than animals).
I always thought Mufasa's prohibition of hyenas hunting only applied to Shenzi's clan due to their overhunting and them living right next door in the Elephant Graveyard. I think the lions hating hyenas was caused by Shenzi's clan attempting to take over the Pride Lands from the lions before Mufasa and Shenzi ascended, while other animals probably hated them because of how hyenas eat their prey: alive.
That's what I'm thinking too, that Shenzi's clan was to blame for everyone hating hyenas. Why the herbivore animals put up with the lions I think is because there were two types of every herbivore in the series, sapient ones that can talk and non-sapient ones that're instinct driven like real animals. The non-sapient ones were fair game to hunt and kill for food while the sapient ones were off limits. Problem is, Shenzi's clan of hyenas broke this rule and went after sapient animals for food as well which is part of why the lions and everyone else hated hyenas.
@@BruhTNT4258 They constantly talk about wanting to hunt as much as they want, they DO end up overhunting to an extreme degree in the first movie, and it's heavily hinted they were banished for over hunting in the first place..they were greedy/gluttons and didn't understand why it was bad.
I think that scar were truly friends with shenzi , banzai and ed during his adolescence , but when he got his scar from his father ahadi , a flame of hate for mufasa and his father started to burn in his heart , but when his mother uru passed away, the pain in his heart made him isolate himself from the rest of the pride but also the isolation made him hate the hyenas since the reason ahadi injured taka was because taka was friends with the hyenas, he thought to himself that if he wasn't friends with them that none of this would have happen and until his death , scar saw the hyenas with a face of disgust , disapointment , and he was so blinded by his plans to kill mufasa and maybe exile the hyenas when chaos starts to be out of hand , he had forgotten about their friendship , zira never know this since scar never told her , seconds before scar's death , after losing the throne his dignity , his pride , he was down the same level as his friends , before shenzi interrupted scar , he may have been going to ask for their forgiveness and then the fear in scar's eyes did show that he was scared but also wanted to say he was sorry but his remaining dignity made him remember the memories of the pride looking down on him because he was friends with hyenas , and that silence led to his death at the teeth of the hyenas
its funny because in real life lions avoid hyenas; specially spotted ones. spotted hyenas being more hunters then scavengers. Also hyenas are very intelligent and even live with complex social structures.
Lions only avoid hyenas if they are in large clan, but lions would bully hyena if its a lone one. But there are occasions where pride of lions and clan of hyenas went into war, fight wouldnt have WINNER but what would stop the wars are the male lions. Hyenas FEAR AND HATE male lions beacuse of their strenght and size they will avoid even single male adult lion
Lions do not avoid hyenas, although lionesses will typically try to avoid clans of spotted hyenas, lionesses and especially male lions will not hesitate to charge at alone or even small groups of hyenas, some males have even been seen charging a large clan of hyenas by themselves and the hyenas will usually give in since lions live in prides. This doesn’t mean hyenas never go after lions or that lions never avoid hyenas, but still, for the most part, lions are the ones that do the chasing and hyenas are the ones that do the running.

@@nojorooney Lions typically avoid hyenas as hyenas have been very well known to kill cubs..they can also steal kills from lions using their numbers to slowly weaken the lion without getting hurt; it happens between wolves and bears too where wolves will run around ad fake charge a bear with the bear unable to really do anything against the wolves attacks because doing something would mean getting off the prey it just killed which would end it being stolen..they harass the bear till it either gives up the kill, the wolves are able to steal it when the bear throws a punch back, or the wolves give up and move on. Lions only EVER chase hyenas when they are protecting their pride (like cubs) or their fresh kills or stealing kills..predators avoid fights if necessary, getting injured for no reason isn't a good idea..so they get involved with hyenas when they have to (when hungry, or protecting themselves/food) which means they generally want nothing to do with hyenas most of the time. And generally ONLY male hyenas split from the group to get food alone as they're the bottom of the pack, females eat first leaving scraps for males, this isn't usually an issue for the group of hyenas as most of their group consists of females (loosing one male isn't a problem, they can find more or even birth more if necessary)..females generally have no reason to leave for food on their own as they get plenty of food compared to the males, this is why male hyenas are less of a threat to lions as they're partially starved and far weaker than a female (females are larger). And unlike popular belief LIONS are the ones usually trying to steal kills, hyenas (specifically spotted hyenas) hunt almost all their kills. They're successful at stealing but so are lions, however, only the males..hyenas can fend off lionesses and older lions, they have trouble fending off males (protecting kills is far harder than stealing as if you move away it'll be vulnerable to being grabbed, that's why hyenas struggle against males stealing from them..male lions are huge, they cannot avoid powerful blows AND protect their kills). Hyenas are far more successful hunters than lions hence why lions steal more than hyenas, hyenas only steal when there's an easy opportunity to do so.

It a sad thing because when other animals refer to the hyenas they refer them a “their kind” in the lion gourd kion says “your kind isn’t welcome in the pride lands” it just sounds like it has a message in there just my thoughts
Lions and Hyenas really are enemies in real life. Usually they fight over territory, which I guess explains why Hyenas live in the Elephant Graveyard as opposed to the Pridelands
I was hoping that someday you’d do this video Issac…. Why didn’t Scar’s Ghost recruit Zira and the other outlanders in The Lion Guard-although I think the simplest answer is that Scar NEVER gave a flying 💩 about Zira, Kovu and the rest of the outsider lions. I mean for one big thing Scar of course had his whole plan to have Kion use the Roar to burn down the Pridelands therefore turning the Pridelands into a much more desolate wasteland than it became in the original movie and the outlands themselves. I mean why would Scar want that when Zira had her whole plan to have his “chosen heir” Kovu murder Simba and take over as King. Again I think the simplest answer for that is Scar never cared about any of them which fits perfectly well with Scar’s character especially when you consider that scene between him and Sabrabi where he outright said he’s perfectly fine with just letting everyone starve to death.
Isaac Carlson have you seen the play Twisted before it's a unique take on Aladdin (and Disney in general) and redeems the villains by making them the real heroes and portrays the heroes as the bad guys as The Twisted version of Scar was actually great ruler who ended the prejudice ways of the lions and gave peaceful coexistence with both hyenas and lions ( until Starkid's play version of his brother devoured his cubs and usurped the throne bringing back the discrimination and supremacy that the lions had for hyenas)? if not then you should definitely check out that play sometime in the future.
I think it also stems to their real-life counterparts. Both lions and hyenas are Apex predators, rivals in the Savannah. But I guess during the development of The Lion King, they did need animals to side with Scar
Scar basically lied to the hyenas about being “one of the good lions” by declaring that he’d be the one that’ll give them as much food as they want, which sounds great considering how awful things have been for them so far, so an argument could be made that the hyenas sided with Scar out of desperation. Granted there are few holes in that argument, but I’d argue those holes actually show that the hyena’s situation is a lot more multi-faced than this just one factor.
If you think about it, siblings compete for leading the pride through combat. Physical strength (the crown of tactics used by *most* apex-predators) would win out. Scar was spared death, but nevertheless he’s essentially the bridge between lion and hyena; stronger than the latter by conventional methods, but too weak by said standards to dominate the former (barring obtaining the throne by default due to the untimely passing of the higher heirs). Some anthropomorphism was needed to justify this, but not as much as you might think
The reason there, was because of the excessive hunting that the hyenas did, and that's why they were villainized. But I'm glad that with Jasiri they showed us that not all hyenas are bad and also thanks you for remind us that also there were bad lions like Scar and Zira (specially Zira believed that the lions are over all and all th species; and Scar used them to becoming in king), just as there are good hyenas. Also I'm glad that the friendship of Jasiri and Kion united the Outlands and the Pridelands, and he did well at the end of the 2nd season to name her as ruler of the Outlands; since she also understood The Circle of Life and through her we learned Sisinisawa (We're the same), about the equality even though they are different species and break that prejudice
There is absolutely no proof that any hyenas had ever over hunted. The reason for their banishment is very simple. They’re hyenas, and lions hate hyenas. End of theory.
The reason why the lions were dominant, and looked down on the hyenas as lowest lifeforms, is because humanity in general views it that way. People, especially those who write and direct these movies, prefer lions more. It's also interesting to note that lions are male dominant and hyenas are female dominant, something that for a long time throughout history had it's own biases for or againts, due to religious teachings. So the change from a movie that taught that hyenas are dumb, greedy, and disgusting, to teaching that it was prejudice and the two are equal, is only a reflection of the changes in our own society as to how we view gender dominance and equality. Actual lions and hyenas don't consider themselves dominant or superior to anything else based on anything other than whether or not they can win a fight. They equally respect and disrespect every other animal of the same or different species as they need to in order to live their lives.
In regards to todays video and your previous one about “What if Mufasa banished Scar?” Is that I like issues like this showed that Mufasa wasn’t perfect and that he and most likey other past Kings let certain prejudices fester until Kion and Jasiri become friends.
The way I see it, it’s basically cats hating dogs if you think about it in a literal sense. On that note, I find it funny you uploaded this video just one day before the 25th anniversary of _The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride_ .
What's funny is I believe hyenas are actually more cat than dog when it comes to taxonomy. Hyenas are closer to cats than dogs. Hyenas and cats are part of the Suborder Feliformia. Meanwhile dogs and foxes are part of the suborder Caniformia.
Hyenas are feliformes, meaning cat-like carnivores. They are on the same branch of the carnivora family that lions are. They just behave similarly to dogs. They were seen as dog-like until a couple decades ago, after the Lion King was released, when their genome was sequenced. The confusion is understandable.
I'm having flashbacks to a bad .exe game about the lion king and it kept pointing out dead hyenas and was like if it wasn't for your poaching and crap they would still live, I get it but they didn't have to make that most of the game, it ain't sending a message and it ain't stopping none

I guess the lions only saw the hyenas as evil, drooling,loud,laughing, killing machines but in reality they're BOTH extremely DANGEROUS!!! At least in the lion guard they showed that lions and hyenas could be friends through Kion and Jasiri
I feel like the lions being seen as superior to the hyenas storyline was Disney's way of showing how society puts too much emphasis on big cats in real life. Everyone hears about the predators, but no one hears about the scavengers, herbivores, etc.

Speaking of the Circle of Life, can you explain what the Circle of life is, I am asking this because in the Lion Guard there are The Hyenas but other than them and other outlanders, some pride landers break the circle of life, the crocodiles break it the most, even more than the hyenas, they are like the pride lands local mafia.
It's really interesting when you look at this whole franchise trough a lions perspective. The Pridelands are essentialy the territory of Mufasa/Simba, but then you have to look at all the animals that are allowed to live in the Pridelands, and which ones aren't. First is obvious, prey animals. Antelopes, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo etc. Animals that lions eat are obviously allowed inside the Pridelands. If they were to leave, the lions would starve. Another category are obviously animals that don't bother lions. Birds, insects, fish and small animals are also allowed inside the Pridelands, since they don't bother the lions, and some of them might benefit the prey species. The third category are animals that benefit the lions. Take the cheetah and leopard as an example. Both of them are scared of lions, and lions readilu steal prey that those 2 cats have killed, so they benefit lions. Aardwolves obviously eat the termites, which in turn holds their numbers low. Elephants, rhinos and hippos aren't usualy eaten by lions, but their large bodies help clear up land, which means the prey animals get better access to food, which in turn benefits the lions. Now let's look at all the animals that aren't allowed inside the Pridelands. First is the hyena, which are the mortal enemy of lions, so obviously they would not be allowed. Vultures are also often seen as the bad guys. Vultures will gather around lions that have made a kill, hoping to steal some meat, which the lions hate. Jackals are also known steal from lions, so obviously they are considered vad guys. Crocodiles are known to kill lions that enter waterways, and cobras can also kill lions.
What I don't understand is the anthropomorphism of the animals, like a zebra, you are aware that your "king" is gonna eat you someday but you still celebrate him.
The only issue here is that crocs are allowed, with Simba even respecting their culture and traditions. Heck cobras too. Ushari lived in the Pridelands before Bunga annoyed him too much.
@@HarmonyHope7534 Hmmm maybe crocodiles are an special case. Lions aren't known to like water, and generaly avoid going in unless they have to. So this means that crocodiles don't really bother them on a daily basis like hyenas or vultures, meaning they get to stay. However as i said, lions don't go into waters unless they have to, and Pridelands definetly has rivers going through it, that the lions need to cross. These crossing points definetly had crocodiles in it, and those could pose a threat to the lions. So it might have been a strategic banishment. Crocodiles living in important crossing points would have been removed, while crocodiles staying in waters that the lions don't go near get to stay

Honestly the Hyena trio from the first film were some of my favorite characters because of their dark and daring nature. And I love that there's now a series where an unlikely friendship of two supposed opposites has become reality, even if it's through a TV spin-off, like The Lion Guard. Don't get me wrong, I love the attention and new ideas that they came up with for an entire new spin-off series to one of Disney's greatest stories ever told, but... the art style isn't as professional compared to the first or even second film. But man are the stories gripping.
Well, have not seen that series. First thing first, Hyenas were just placed as the villain for story's sake, since they are a species that gangs on prey, felines do gang up but they mostly bring down and kill the prey while hyenas bite prey in a slow and painfull way until it tires down. The Hyena count was huge and by the way Zazu expressed to mufasa that hyenas were on the Kingdom I'd say they were trying to inmigrate into Pride lands from a previously devastated ecosystem
Personally, I think that lions drove hyenas into being more sadistic and villainous, because yes, hyena's kingrueling great numbers and are highly dangerous, But mufasa, being a great king, and knowing the balance of the circle of life would have known better than to let even animals who do not follow his reign suffer, and this was shown even invelope him too. We're suffering, but at the end, they were welcome to live in the pride land, so the question is, if lions are willing to let their own kind live in the pride lands, why is it hyenas hyenas are so different? I mean, yes, in the wild, they are natural enemies, but Lion King wise, I'm sure there. We're plenty of hyenas who would have respected the circle of life if they had been given the chance to by lions. Which is why I kind of root for scar. The only packs they met/lived in the pridelands naturally were ones who overhunted..banishment was the only way to save the pridelands (look at the first movie and what happened when Scar ruled! The Hyenas literally killed the pridelands from overhunting..THAT is why hyenas were banished! It's just unfortunate they didn't know not all hyenas were bad) Scar HAD to go to the hyenas as the rest of the pridelands would of NEVER let Scar rule ver mufasa, they loved mufasa; he went to the hyenas because he knew they were easy to manipulate and control to win, a whole army easy to obtain that were willing to kill mufasa and rule with an iron fist as his bodyguards..he needed someone who could fight as he could not (he admitted himself he wasn't strong, mufasa got the strength and he got the brains). He wasn't friends with the hyenas nor was there a bond..it was a one sided friendship with the hyenas being his friends and him using them (not being their friends).

But if you are talking about Disney's lions, i'm pretty sure Simba (from lion guard) said that they kill the prey when they need the food. Unlike the hyenas, they over-hunt and would kill every prey in the Pridelands. But in real life, lions, just like hyenas, kill any predator whenever they get the chance because the more predators they eliminate, the less competition they would have over food. But the lions don't necessary eat the predators. So yea, in one way, Disney do make lions look like the good guys.

Yk, I also heard that wolves are also seen as a totem or magical or honorable similar to lions, but are also seen as a force of evil. I wonder what would happen if they went onto the Lion King/ Lion guard story, we always seen big cats, but never really big canines that could possibly be a force for the hyenas or maybe for those who were wronged. I think that it would be really interesting and might even answer some questions.

When the Lion King was in development, Scar's minions were originally going to be African wild dogs but this was changed. On IMDb it is said that the reason for the change was that the filmmakers saw a National Geographic documentary filmed by Dereck and Beverly Joubert called Eternal Enemies which was about lions and hyenas in conflict.
And even though hyena's don't respect the circle of life, they have never really been given a reason to. Because throughout their lives, lines have excluded them and vanished them into the outhat's well. Hyenas have been shrubbed in darkness and have barely any food to eat despite their massive numbers. So the fact that hyema's don't respect the figure of life is they view? The circle of lit has something that they will be trapped in. Meanwhile, hyena's truly just one freedom and yes. Yes, a large group of hyenas can decimate the number of pray in a Kingdom, but when you think about it, how can scar have really Cos 2 the prey land to go into destination if anything I'm pretty sure. It was just the dry season. Or a drought in the prime lands and scared. What just keeping it that way so that he could control the preglands, with the help of his hyenas? The only part screwed up in is blaming the hyenas for his Christ call otherwise would have been Ruling pride rock to this day..

It's very simple - real life lions hate hyenas, and try to kill them whenever they can, and hyenas try to murk lions whenever they can, and hate them too.
The reason scar was a alliances with the hyenas is based on betrayal, that ahadi instilled in scar, giving room for scar to be acuanted with hyenas. And making his son an outcast.
It's a lot like Monsterverse Kong hating predators because when he was born his entire family were killed by Skullcrawlers and from that day on he believed that all carnivores are bad and must be destroyed to restore balance in Skull Island he killed a Skull Island tiger just because it was hunting humans and sadly it almost destroyed Skull Island's ecosystem that is until he went to the Hollow Earth and in Godzilla x Kong the hunted he finaly knew that carnivorous creatures aren't always evil they were creatures like him trying to survive in a harsh world and that's why he saved 2 SpineProwler cubs after there mother died protecting them almost like Kong's own mother

This was a good video and back in the first Lion king seeing what happened to the Pride lands when Scar allows the Hyenas to control the grounds it kinda made Simba’s view on Hyenas to be reasonable.
In Africa hyenas can hunt or scavenge or take lions meal and they do fight for territory hyenas live in groups called clans and they do have deadly fights
Forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't think the Lion Guard show is cannon, with Kiara having no siblings in the second movie and no mention of a sibling is ever made during that movie, so I'm not sure we can pull theories for the main movies from the show That being said, one of my favourite things about the live action remake was the fact that Shenzi was in charge of the hyenas and that she was willing to work WITH Scar, not FOR him
Well, when it comes to the lions and hyenas rivalry, it’s pretty accurate. Like they both try to take over one’s territory, steel, each other’s hunting prey, whether they caught it or not, and last, but not least apparently here’s the part where is sad, they both kill each other’s Cubs. That’s actually the reality of why they don’t like each other, especially in the lion King universe. Even though they don’t say it like that it is pretty clear. I mean while the hyenas have been given a bad rap in the first film and wow the Timon and Pumbaa series though I’m not sure if that’s really Cannon. But either way, the only good thing about the hyenas later on is that they are reputation does get redeemed in the lion King series. Such as the lion guard despite the first antagonist being hyenas we also find other hyenas that are not like Janja’s clan. But we also find another hyena clan that led by Jasiri that literally follows the examples of the circle of life even know scar was a manipulative monster that’s literally used hyenas for his own game. Of course, later on Janja starts to realize that even having feelings for Jasiri, especially in that scene where she rescued him from getting burned alive. Later on, he starts to realize maybe were so much better on the other side. her clan Even going as far to help the lion guard is better than we are working with a possessed spirit from hell. Then again, when scar is mauled to death by those hyenas, it’s clear that that was retaliation for betraying their loyalty considering them. By currently telling his nephew Simba that the hyenas are their enemies that is like a stab in the back. But then again about the lions and the outlands episode where we get to see Zira and the rest of the exiled Lions while to scar. Many would assume that she technically just hated Jasiri and her clan for being hyenas but I feel like it’s the opposite. I mean, if you look up this character in whatever kind of wiki page you find on anywhere on the Internet, you’ll see zira is still friends with the hyenas of scar even though she probably doesn’t know the whole story. But likewise doesn’t like Jasiri and their clan for not joining scar. But otherwise I do like how they show the accurate story that it’s not just hyenas that are excuse my language. But as I put it the episode that show that lions can be just as big of assholes to hyenas or anybody around them. Apparently, and all stuff I’ve seen of nature documentaries you name it show the lions are more the the aggressors than the hyenas. I'm glad that Kion and Jasiri were able to make amends with the hyenas and lions. It really shows how both of them are great leaders! The history of both those animals was tainted because of the excessive hunting that the hyenas did. Plus the fact that Scar was using them. It's as Mufasa said, "we are all connected in the great circle of life."

In the wild Lions and Hyenas are actually rivials in real life.
In reality, predators of different species don't tolerate each other because they're competitors and compete for similar resources. Any chance they'll have at killing a rival, they'll take it. Killing each others' offspring would mean getting rid of future competitors. This is called Interspecific competition. In order to decrease this, predators of different trophic levels fill different niches.😊
I mean not all the animals in the pride-lands are good, there are the Crocodiles who constantly break the circle of Life way more than the Hyenas.

I always thought Mufasa's prohibition of hyenas hunting only applied to Shenzi's clan due to their overhunting and them living right next door in the Elephant Graveyard. I think the lions hating hyenas was caused by Shenzi's clan attempting to take over the Pride Lands from the lions before Mufasa and Shenzi ascended, while other animals probably hated them because of how hyenas eat their prey: alive.
That's what I'm thinking too, that Shenzi's clan was to blame for everyone hating hyenas. Why the herbivore animals put up with the lions I think is because there were two types of every herbivore in the series, sapient ones that can talk and non-sapient ones that're instinct driven like real animals.
The non-sapient ones were fair game to hunt and kill for food while the sapient ones were off limits. Problem is, Shenzi's clan of hyenas broke this rule and went after sapient animals for food as well which is part of why the lions and everyone else hated hyenas.

I think that scar were truly friends with shenzi , banzai and ed during his adolescence , but when he got his scar from his father ahadi , a flame of hate for mufasa and his father started to burn in his heart , but when his mother uru passed away, the pain in his heart made him isolate himself from the rest of the pride but also the isolation made him hate the hyenas since the reason ahadi injured taka was because taka was friends with the hyenas, he thought to himself that if he wasn't friends with them that none of this would have happen and until his death , scar saw the hyenas with a face of disgust , disapointment , and he was so blinded by his plans to kill mufasa and maybe exile the hyenas when chaos starts to be out of hand , he had forgotten about their friendship , zira never know this since scar never told her , seconds before scar's death , after losing the throne his dignity , his pride , he was down the same level as his friends , before shenzi interrupted scar , he may have been going to ask for their forgiveness and then the fear in scar's eyes did show that he was scared but also wanted to say he was sorry but his remaining dignity made him remember the memories of the pride looking down on him because he was friends with hyenas , and that silence led to his death at the teeth of the hyenas

Lions do not avoid hyenas, although lionesses will typically try to avoid clans of spotted hyenas, lionesses and especially male lions will not hesitate to charge at alone or even small groups of hyenas, some males have even been seen charging a large clan of hyenas by themselves and the hyenas will usually give in since lions live in prides. This doesn’t mean hyenas never go after lions or that lions never avoid hyenas, but still, for the most part, lions are the ones that do the chasing and hyenas are the ones that do the running.

They're successful at stealing but so are lions, however, only the males..hyenas can fend off lionesses and older lions, they have trouble fending off males (protecting kills is far harder than stealing as if you move away it'll be vulnerable to being grabbed, that's why hyenas struggle against males stealing from them..male lions are huge, they cannot avoid powerful blows AND protect their kills). Why didn’t Scar’s Ghost recruit Zira and the other outlanders in The Lion Guard-although I think the simplest answer is that Scar NEVER gave a flying 💩 about Zira, Kovu and the rest of the outsider lions. I mean for one big thing Scar of course had his whole plan to have Kion use the Roar to burn down the Pridelands therefore turning the Pridelands into a much more desolate wasteland than it became in the original movie and the outlands themselves. I mean why would Scar want that when Zira had her whole plan to have his “chosen heir” Kovu murder Simba and take over as King. Again I think the simplest answer for that is Scar never cared about any of them which fits perfectly well with Scar’s character especially when you consider that scene between him and Sabrabi where he outright said he’s perfectly fine with just letting everyone starve to death.
Isaac Carlson have you seen the play Twisted before it's a unique take on Aladdin (and Disney in general) and redeems the villains by making them the real heroes and portrays the heroes as the bad guys as The Twisted version of Scar was actually great ruler who ended the prejudice ways of the lions and gave peaceful coexistence with both hyenas and lions ( until Starkid's play version of his brother devoured his cubs and usurped the throne bringing back the discrimination and supremacy that the lions had for hyenas)? if not then you should definitely check out that play sometime in the future.
I think it also stems to their real-life counterparts. Both lions and hyenas are Apex predators, rivals in the Savannah. But I guess during the development of The Lion King, they did need animals to side with Scar
Scar basically lied to the hyenas about being “one of the good lions” by declaring that he’d be the one that’ll give them as much food as they want, which sounds great considering how awful things have been for them so far, so an argument could be made that the hyenas sided with Scar out of desperation. Granted there are few holes in that argument, but I’d argue those holes actually show that the hyena’s situation is a lot more multi-faced than this just one factor.

If you think about it, siblings compete for leading the pride through combat. Physical strength (the crown of tactics used by *most* apex-predators) would win out. Scar was spared death, but nevertheless he’s essentially the bridge between lion and hyena; stronger than the latter by conventional methods, but too weak by said standards to dominate the former (barring obtaining the throne by default due to the untimely passing of the higher heirs).
Some anthropomorphism was needed to justify this, but not as much as you might think

The reason why the lions were dominant, and looked down on the hyenas as lowest lifeforms, is because humanity in general views it that way. People, especially those who write and direct these movies, prefer lions more. It's also interesting to note that lions are male dominant and hyenas are female dominant, something that for a long time throughout history had it's own biases for or againts, due to religious teachings. So the change from a movie that taught that hyenas are dumb, greedy, and disgusting, to teaching that it was prejudice and the two are equal, is only a reflection of the changes in our own society as to how we view gender dominance and equality. Actual lions and hyenas don't consider themselves dominant or superior to anything else based on anything other than whether or not they can win a fight. They equally respect and disrespect every other animal of the same or different species as they need to in order to live their lives.

What's funny is I believe hyenas are actually more cat than dog when it comes to taxonomy. Hyenas are closer to cats than dogs. Hyenas and cats are part of the Suborder Feliformia. Meanwhile dogs and foxes are part of the suborder Caniformia.

Hyenas are feliformes, meaning cat-like carnivores. They are on the same branch of the carnivora family that lions are. They just behave similarly to dogs. They were seen as dog-like until a couple decades ago, after the Lion King was released, when their genome was sequenced. The confusion is understandable.

The lion guard: Predator prey relationship is part of the circle of life.
Also the lion guard: nobody except lion are allowed to hunt.
It's really interesting when you look at this whole franchise trough a lions perspective.
The Pridelands are essentialy the territory of Mufasa/Simba, but then you have to look at all the animals that are allowed to live in the Pridelands, and which ones aren't.
First is obvious, prey animals. Antelopes, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo etc. Animals that lions eat are obviously allowed inside the Pridelands. If they were to leave, the lions would starve.
Another category are obviously animals that don't bother lions. Birds, insects, fish and small animals are also allowed inside the Pridelands, since they don't bother the lions, and some of them might benefit the prey species.
The third category are animals that benefit the lions. Take the cheetah and leopard as an example. Both of them are scared of lions, and lions readilu steal prey that those 2 cats have killed, so they benefit lions. Aardwolves obviously eat the termites, which in turn holds their numbers low. Elephants, rhinos and hippos aren't usualy eaten by lions, but their large bodies help clear up land, which means the prey animals get better access to food, which in turn benefits the lions.
Now let's look at all the animals that aren't allowed inside the Pridelands. First is the hyena, which are the mortal enemy of lions, so obviously they would not be allowed. Vultures are also often seen as the bad guys. Vultures will gather around lions that have made a kill, hoping to steal some meat, which the lions hate. Jackals are also known steal from lions, so obviously they are considered vad guys. Crocodiles are known to kill lions that enter waterways, and cobras can also kill lions.
What I don't understand is the anthropomorphism of the animals, like a zebra, you are aware that your "king" is gonna eat you someday but you still celebrate him.
The only issue here is that crocs are allowed, with Simba even respecting their culture and traditions. Heck cobras too. Ushari lived in the Pridelands before Bunga annoyed him too much.

Lions aren't known to like water, and generaly avoid going in unless they have to. So this means that crocodiles don't really bother them on a daily basis like hyenas or vultures, meaning they get to stay.
However as i said, lions don't go into waters unless they have to, and Pridelands definetly has rivers going through it, that the lions need to cross. These crossing points definetly had crocodiles in it, and those could pose a threat to the lions.
So it might have been a strategic banishment. Crocodiles living in important crossing points would have been removed, while crocodiles staying in waters that the lions don't go near get to stay

In this case, this kinda reminds me of how the Japanese viewed the Chinese or vise versa in the 1st and 2nd Sino-Japanese war and nowadays China views Japan like this and has since WW2
Honestly the Hyena trio from the first film were some of my favorite characters because of their dark and daring nature. And I love that there's now a series where an unlikely friendship of two supposed opposites has become reality, even if it's through a TV spin-off, like The Lion Guard. Don't get me wrong, I love the attention and new ideas that they came up with for an entire new spin-off series to one of Disney's greatest stories ever told, but... the art style isn't as professional compared to the first or even second film. But man are the stories gripping.

First thing first, Hyenas were just placed as the villain for story's sake, since they are a species that gangs on prey, felines do gang up but they mostly bring down and kill the prey while hyenas bite prey in a slow and painfull way until it tires down.
The Hyena count was huge and by the way Zazu expressed to mufasa that hyenas were on the Kingdom I'd say they were trying to inmigrate into Pride lands from a previously devastated ecosystem

The only packs they met/lived in the pridelands naturally were ones who overhunted..banishment was the only way to save the pridelands (look at the first movie and what happened when Scar ruled! The Hyenas literally killed the pridelands from overhunting..THAT is why hyenas were banished! It's just unfortunate they didn't know not all hyenas were bad)
Scar HAD to go to the hyenas as the rest of the pridelands would of NEVER let Scar rule ver mufasa, they loved mufasa; he went to the hyenas because he knew they were easy to manipulate and control to win, a whole army easy to obtain that were willing to kill mufasa and rule with an iron fist as his bodyguards..he needed someone who could fight as he could not (he admitted himself he wasn't strong, mufasa got the strength and he got the brains). He wasn't friends with the hyenas nor was there a bond..it was a one sided friendship with the hyenas being his friends and him using them (not being their friends).

But if you are talking about Disney's lions, i'm pretty sure Simba (from lion guard) said that they kill the prey when they need the food. Unlike the hyenas, they over-hunt and would kill every prey in the Pridelands. But in real life, lions, just like hyenas, kill any predator whenever they get the chance because the more predators they eliminate, the less competition they would have over food. But the lions don't necessary eat the predators. So yea, in one way, Disney do make lions look like the good guys.

Yk, I also heard that wolves are also seen as a totem or magical or honorable similar to lions, but are also seen as a force of evil. I wonder what would happen if they went onto the Lion King/ Lion guard story, we always seen big cats, but never really big canines that could possibly be a force for the hyenas or maybe for those who were wronged. I think that it would be really interesting and might even answer some questions.

When the Lion King was in development, Scar's minions were originally going to be African wild dogs but this was changed. On IMDb it is said that the reason for the change was that the filmmakers saw a National Geographic documentary filmed by Dereck and Beverly Joubert called Eternal Enemies which was about lions and hyenas in conflict.
And even though hyena's don't respect the circle of life, they have never really been given a reason to. Because throughout their lives, lines have excluded them and vanished them into the outhat's well. Hyenas have been shrubbed in darkness and have barely any food to eat despite their massive numbers. So the fact that hyema's don't respect the figure of life is they view? The circle of lit has something that they will be trapped in. Meanwhile, hyena's truly just one freedom and yes. Yes, a large group of hyenas can decimate the number of pray in a Kingdom, but when you think about it, how can scar have really Cos 2 the prey land to go into destination if anything I'm pretty sure. It was just the dry season. Or a drought in the prime lands and scared. What just keeping it that way so that he could control the preglands, with the help of his hyenas? The only part screwed up in is blaming the hyenas for his Christ call otherwise would have been Ruling pride rock to this day..

It's very simple - real life lions hate hyenas, and try to kill them whenever they can, and hyenas try to murk lions whenever they can, and hate them too.

It's a lot like Monsterverse Kong hating predators because when he was born his entire family were killed by Skullcrawlers and from that day on he believed that all carnivores are bad and must be destroyed to restore balance in Skull Island he killed a Skull Island tiger just because it was hunting humans and sadly it almost destroyed Skull Island's ecosystem that is until he went to the Hollow Earth and in Godzilla x Kong the hunted he finaly knew that carnivorous creatures aren't always evil they were creatures like him trying to survive in a harsh world and that's why he saved 2 SpineProwler cubs after there mother died protecting them almost like Kong's own mother

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't think the Lion Guard show is cannon, with Kiara having no siblings in the second movie and no mention of a sibling is ever made during that movie, so I'm not sure we can pull theories for the main movies from the show
That being said, one of my favourite things about the live action remake was the fact that Shenzi was in charge of the hyenas and that she was willing to work WITH Scar, not FOR him

Well, when it comes to the lions and hyenas rivalry, it’s pretty accurate. Like they both try to take over one’s territory, steel, each other’s hunting prey, whether they caught it or not, and last, but not least apparently here’s the part where is sad, they both kill each other’s Cubs. That’s actually the reality of why they don’t like each other, especially in the lion King universe. Even though they don’t say it like that it is pretty clear. I mean while the hyenas have been given a bad rap in the first film and wow the Timon and Pumbaa series though I’m not sure if that’s really Cannon. But either way, the only good thing about the hyenas later on is that they are reputation does get redeemed in the lion King series. Such as the lion guard despite the first antagonist being hyenas we also find other hyenas that are not like Janja’s clan. But we also find another hyena clan that led by Jasiri that literally follows the examples of the circle of life even know scar was a manipulative monster that’s literally used hyenas for his own game. Of course, later on Janja starts to realize that even having feelings for Jasiri, especially in that scene where she rescued him from getting burned alive. Later on, he starts to realize maybe were so much better on the other side. her clan Even going as far to help the lion guard is better than we are working with a possessed spirit from hell. Then again, when scar is mauled to death by those hyenas, it’s clear that that was retaliation for betraying their loyalty considering them. By currently telling his nephew Simba that the hyenas are their enemies that is like a stab in the back. But then again about the lions and the outlands episode where we get to see Zira and the rest of the exiled Lions while to scar. Many would assume that she technically just hated Jasiri and her clan for being hyenas but I feel like it’s the opposite. I mean, if you look up this character in whatever kind of wiki page you find on anywhere on the Internet, you’ll see zira is still friends with the hyenas of scar even though she probably doesn’t know the whole story. But likewise doesn’t like Jasiri and their clan for not joining scar. But otherwise I do like how they show the accurate story that it’s not just hyenas that are excuse my language. But as I put it the episode that show that lions can be just as big of assholes to hyenas or anybody around them. Apparently, and all stuff I’ve seen of nature documentaries you name it show the lions are more the the aggressors than the hyenas. You don’t see much of that in documentaries, but it happens, but it doesn’t like happen fully often.
