The long awaited Harold The Helicopter Theme in it's full length from Series 2! This is probably the most majestic theme in all of Thomas (next to Stepney's Escape to Sodor, for me anyways)
There was always the one from the games that was easily accessible for years but the verse that was heard in the Runaway was only ever heard in that episode and I think it's probably the best piece from the entirety of Season 2.
This, Daisy and Donald and Douglas were true showcases of what Mike and Junior could do with a Jupiter 6.
Some of us do think that the Prophet 2000 sampler (the one used in TUGS) debuted in the music for Series 2 of Thomas with some of the percussion samples but it's also a possibility that they rented some instruments for the studio to record acoustically.

Hey everyone.
Just a quick message. While I know a lot of you enjoy the recreations of O'Donnell and Campbell's legendary work for TTTE. I'd also really appreciate if you'd take a look at music I've written too. I'm looking to experiment and expand as a composer to test my range and ideas, the Thomas stuff is nostalgic and everything but the original works is what I really enjoy to work with. Still on the 80s wave at the moment as there are some sounds I still want to tackle. Here’s a playlist of all the 80s and 90s stuff. I’ve arranged them similar to how they are on SoundCloud. Enjoy!

The music is based of the theme of the movie 'The Dam Busters', which is a retelling of how important the british navy was during world war 2.
I've always loved this theme, especially with the brassy synths from The Runaway.💜

I always thought this was the most British sounding track on the show.
And it's nice to have a clean note for note remake of it after all these years! Fly high SA✊🏾
That is because it sounds very much like the iconic Dambusters theme
Harold the helicopter really was the underrated mvp of the Thomas franchise. I never understood why the engines hated him so much. They called him “Lazy Wings”, “Stuck-up Weerlie bird”, and “Cheeky Chopper” etc.

Harold is like...the Superman of the Thomas universe lol. Always loved his theme, especially during his clutch rescue during The Runaway.

One of the most epic themes in the whole show! This one has hit different ever since the first time I heard it.
Last I heard, your headphones would not allow you to hear the backing bits good enough to know how to make this. Glad to see you not only did it, but nailed it.
That definitely sounds like a rumour haha. More or less, I think my thing with this theme for years is that I wasn’t confident to really pull it off because I have a perfectionist type of mind set lol. Plus with the quality of the themes in the past year being such an improvement over all my old work, I knew I had to keep that standard. I thought it would best to pick up some more musical experience before I came to this one haha but thanks a lot!

(this music is exactly what I imagine if Flying Scotsman appeared in the show and this is how I imagine the scene would go)

Suddenly everyone heard a whistle they’ve never heard before but Gordon knew who it was.
Backing towards them with a large tender engine.
The engine’s shape was similar to Gordon’s but had a longer steam dome and funnel.
The engine was painted in a magnificent apple green as it shined in the sunlight.
On both sides of the tender was four letters “L N E R” as well as the sides of the engines cab saying the number “4 4 7 2”.
Everyone saw that Gordon was getting more excited as the visitor continued to approach and they were confused as to why until they saw the engines nameplate.
The nameplate was an odd curve shape going over the engines second wheel well and everyone stood in amazement as the nameplate read out “Flying Scotsman” everyone understood to why Gordon was excited it was his own brother.
Gordon: It's Flying Scotsman!!
Having a piece that contains both 3/4 and 4/4 segments demonstrates the creativity of Mike and Junior. How many composers would have created such a complex score for a children's show?
Ty, what wonderful attention-to-detail! The percussion in this really shines, especially the timpani and cymbals. I'm just noticing the strings set an octave lower than the lead in the intro. That trill on the end is priceless. Thank you for bringing this fantastic piece to us.
It sounds like it's still all in 4/4 but uses triplet notes to simulate the sense of 3/4 or 3/8 at certain points.
@@j-master4-6-22 You're right. I was thrown by the partial slow-down before the song goes into the chorus.
Also at the very end it has that baroque era flare in the melody as well.
@@NickOzorak I tend to make out tempos in songs by chuffing to a certain type of engine. 2 cylinder engines make 4 beats a wheelturn, and 3 cylinder engines make 6. This theme...I seem to be able to do both with different spacing, so despite the 'rellatando a tempo' (slowing down before returning to regular tempo) each measure has four beats, which can be split into three equal-length notes. A trio of 8th notes in this case, which means Harold's Theme is a *12:8,* or a... Compound Quadruple Meter
the dambusters march inspiration is SO evident in this piece.
such a wonderful theme, it feels like you are gliding through the clouds to a engine in need and you come just at the right time.
Not gonna lie, I started getting teary when I started to listen to this... the Stereophonic instrumentation, the nostalgia pouring in as the "Runaway" piece started...
Oh good God, it's hard to describe with tears of joy flowing down my face!... all the same, you're getting as much gratitude from me for this wonderful recreation as much as Harold did from Thomas and the inspector for his help, and as such, you've received both a most-deserved like from me, as well as a place in my "Favorites" for this! Thank you for making this! I feel Harold’s season 2 theme always has a choppy feel to it, but this fixed the problem forever.

It's been said a million times by now, but it's legitimately amazing to finally have a proper recording of Harold's theme, runaway variant included.
Time flies when I watch Percy and Harold race each other.
Harold’s theme sounds so heroic.
I feel a small hint of “Oh, Canada” in this theme for some strange reason, especially at 0:18 and 0:55. It might be me, but great job as usual Ty 🥰🎉
I think the reason why the original series stuck out to me were the themes.
Everytime I see a helicopter flying overhead or watching one take off, this theme always plays in my head. Plus the family and I always say "There's Harold" and I start humming it right then and there.
This theme and the ending theme to "All at Sea" are my top favorites.

So Harolds theme always kinda had this weird feeling for me.
It's a great triumphic song. But it almost feels like it's trying to be 2 different triumphant concepts at once and they don't mesh, but then they do.
And, if I can describe this accurately, maybe someone else can see what I mean.
The initial start is fine. I see the Helicopter taking off, the search light fire up, and then the stock footage of Harold flying in the sky. It definitely captures that "Rescue Helicopter to the sky" vibe. And then, right at 0:16. I swear to god, the song always sounds like it's become someone's graduation theme XD.

How does a whirlybird get such a grand theme.
If the TV series ever had a super hero theme, it was this.
Imagine that theme playing over a few clips of the Thunderbirds craft pulling off a rescue. That'd be epic!
I like that you combined the regular version of the theme (the one heard in "Percy and Harold") with the version that's heard in "The Runaway"

Absolutely brilliant, especially the synths included in the Runaway.
Honestly, I love 80's-era music in general, bands like Genesis, Rush, the Police, and such, which I think may be due in part to the fact that I grew up with classic Thomas VHS's and was hearing some of these rich, synthy songs in the background. I wish I could afford somethin' like a Jupiter or Oberheim, but for now, it's a beginner MIDI controller and Logic for me. XD

I say, the Synths are what make the Theme, and I have got to say that I love it.

One of those theme tunes I remember so strongly in my childhood when I was visiting my friends house and his VHS the one chases races in runaways was watch the runaway was included on and first time I heard that theme to 90 straight away that thing was going places and it did back in the 80s and it kicked off half my childhood swinging or whirling! the second part of my childhood!

The Theme and especially the intro sounds very reminiscent of both the Dambuster's theme and the score to "Those magnificent men in their flying machines"

Best theme for organ. Especially if you plan to use this as a long intro to God of Our Fathers and outro at the end of Mass. Then you could proceed on to 1812 Overture by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky after The Great Gates of Kiev by Modest Mussorgsky.
Every time I hear a familiar tune I either quote or say a familiar episode or story. For this I was narrating The Runaway.
