    In the uk once your car is over 3 years old if you don’t have it MOT, TAXED, INSURED it will show up on police ANPR cameras which automatically read the vehicle registration number and check it against the databases, if it sees a discrepancy the camera alerts the police driver to pull the vehicle over.
    After watching many of “Just Rolled In” videos of American vehicles that have been taken to dealerships for repairs I definitely think that America should have a mandatory vehicle inspection every year because wow some the vehicles you see on that and are then driven away without having any repairs done is just ridiculous.

      In fact, most of the few US states that have these have been abolishing them in the 2010s and 2020s with some set to stop them in the next couple of years.

    On the MOT I was in America few years ago, and the person I was visiting had an almost foot-long inch crack in his car windscreen, which he said was there for some time. MOT's or the equivalent are mandatory in most European countries these days. However in Germany, it's compulsory every two years, although they were always a little more stringent. This was presumably because cars have become more reliable over the years. With the reliability and build quality of US cars, it would probably be too expensive, as the checks would be required once a month!!!

    The British Pub. Just to clear up a stereotype that I've heard other reactors saying. The stereotype is that we all finish work at 3 or 4pm and as a group traipse off to the pub, spend the evening there drinking alcohol and getting rat arsed. Some people do that, but certainly not the majority. In my experience, the majority of workers like to get home of an evening, see their family and have their evening meal, AS A FAMILY. I have known guys to get very angry with the bus driver because he couldn't get home in time to tuck his little kids up in bed and say goodnight to them. On this particular occasion, it wasn't the bus drivers fault. The traffic that evening had been a sheer farce due to roadworks in Nottingham. It doesn't take much to get Nottingham all snarled up, or Long Eaton, the town where I live.

    • @thunderbug8640
      @thunderbug8640 6 днів тому

      @@annabackman3028 Yes but what I’m saying is an MOT or equivalent has statistically insignificant effect on road safety.
      The UK, France and the state of Pennsylvania all have something similar with annual roadworthiness checks and the UK is at 2.9, France is a 5.0 and Pennsylvania is at 12. Deaths per 100k. While the Australian state of Victoria has no regular check and is at 4.8 per 100k.
      It’s the same story across the board. The numbers are all over the place and a country or state having an MOT or equivalent or not is not a good indicator for road safety as the above example demonstrates. When you think about how a car actually fails this makes sense, they don’t slowly fall apart, they will have sudden failure like brakes fail or tire bursts or power steering fails etc etc.

      Yes once your car/vehicle goes in to have a mot the garage does all the relevant tests. A list of things that needs doing on the car. If they deem the car to be unroadworthy without the relevant repairs being done by law you can’t drive your car away from the garage. If it’s just small things that are not deemed hazardous you can either have that garage do the repairs. Or you can take your car to a different garage. When/if you are pulled over by the police they know by your plate who the owner is. If it’s roadworthy. If it’s insured etc etc. just by putting the licence plate number into the computer they have that’s attached to the dvla. X

    Penalty points: Points on your driving license

    MoT tests in here in Northern Ireland have always been carried out differently than in the rest of the UK. Tests in Northern Ireland are overseen by the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA), whereas the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVSA) is responsible for tests in the rest of the UK.
    The main difference between the two regimes is that tests in Northern Ireland UK, are carried out in government-run centres, whereas private mechanics in Britain can carry out tests. Also it’s every 4 years for cars in Northern Ireland. Cost of test is £38 , if car fails test,a re test costs £29.50.
    My wee mini just passed MOT and she’s almost 14 years old.
    To be on Road Legally, you need to Tax insure and a valid MOT for car.

    You can pay a monthly fee (not much, around £10)
    And you get access to historical buildings that wouldnt normally be accessible, and in return they repair and restore the buildings, keeping them maintained and available for future generations to experience, thus passing on that history.
    These places normally have lots of land and walks around them aswel, normally with beautiful gardens, woodlands and parks.
    Well worth the fee, as usually the price for visiting just one of these sites is around the same as your monthly fee, and you can visit as many as you like! So the only thing holding you back is how far away you want to travel

    I live in Sweden and we have the same rules for what the British call MOT, If it's a factory new car you have to have it checked after 3 years, after the first inspection the second must be done after 2 years, and after that it's a yearly inspection (or rather every 14 month, so you have a 2 month grace period). I think this is very common in Europe as a whole, so it's not specific to the UK. I know it must be done in all the Nordic countries, Germany, Poland, Austria, Croatia, and of course the UK.
    National parks in Sweden is free to visit, we have the Freedom to Roam, we can go anywhere at any time, not in someone's backyard but we're free to go into any forest, even privately owned forests, pick berries, and mushrooms, and even put up a tent for the night. We can swim in any lake, if a farmer grows crops near a lake they are required to leave a path beside the crops so anyone can get to the water. Since the freedom to roam, and go anywhere within the country is part of our constitution, is the main reason why we couldn't have a lockdown during the pandemic.
    I apologize that my comment is about Sweden in a video that is about the UK. It's just didn't think they were that specific to the British island. The country side can be beautiful in all countries, even though it's not really a tourist destination anywhere.

  • @horrovac
    @horrovac 11 днів тому +2

    All EU countries have an annual vehicle check, called differently, but in essence with same or very similar requirements. In Germany it's called a TÜV (after the name of the inspecting body, the Technischer Überprüfungs-Verein), in Austria it's called a "Pickerl", literally a sticker, because that's what you get when you pass. Those are not the official names - in Austria the official name is §57a inspection, but that's practically only used in official documents.
    Some states in the US also have them, but it's apparently not very well controlled or policed, so you end up with "Lick 'em & Stick 'em" workshops that will give you one if you pay them. Over here it's much more strict, inspection really means something. In Germany, the TÜV's only business are technical checks, they don't have any other motives. They don't offer repairs and they have no incentive to accept bribes. In Austria being able to do the inspection is a valuable asset for the workshops, and they are very careful not to lose it. They are subject to tests by the government, and if they are discovered to have awarded the Pickerl to a car that doesn't fulfil the requirements, they'll be fined and lose their inspection licence.
    It can suck sometimes. Often, not being able to pass an inspection is a death knell for a car if it can't be repaired economically. But on the whole, our rolling stock is at a high technical standard, and we don't have the rusted out deathtraps rolling around here.

  • @jamespainhouseman4289
    @jamespainhouseman4289 11 днів тому +3

    Classic cars over 40 years old no longer need an MOT test - but I get mine done anyway because £54 is not a lot of money to have someone do a formal check on everything - I know other owners of classic cars do the same. But we have the infrastructure - namely approved inspectors (ordinary mechanics in ordinary garages who have the equipment and have been checked and certified) doing standard checks - takes about an hour and a fixed fee - currently £54. Good system. They may give failures for things that are definitely not safe and then "advisories" for things that are not unsafe but should be looked at. You cannot do your annual car tax unless it has a valid MOT (and has valid third party inurance) - its all held on a government computer somewhere.

    I had no idea you didn't have the equivalent to our MOTs for cars over the pond, not sure how safe on the roads I would feel.. Mind you, as a young adult in the 80s I knew a lot of people who did up old cars and it used to be so easy for them to game the MOT system getting some dangerous stuff past the testers. Thankfully it has all been really tightened up since then although we all groan when it comes to the yearly costs.
    The MOT is also useful these days when it comes to buying used cars as you can look up the car via it's number plate via various websites and see all the MOTs the car has been though, helps to see what issues they might have!

    The MOT means you need to have enough tread on your tyres, lights need to work, brakes need to work, cant be rust holes in any critical points in the car like seatbelt mounts, seat mounts, suspension mounts, chassis. etc your exhaust cant put out too many particulates or unburnt fuel. so no black smoking diesels.
    Your mot is valid for 1 year so people go for their MOT before it expires, if it fails you get a free retest within a week. A garage cant charge more than around £35 and they cant make you get repairs from them and its all tied into a government system that records the car, the garage etc to reduce fake MOT certificates, so if a car is pulled over with a fresh MOT and clearly falling apart it can be traced back to the garage and they can loose their licence to do MOT tests. not every problem is a fail, if things are worn but usable you will get an advisory that it should be looked at but it will still pass. all of this is public so you can usually get a good idea of the history of a car. doesnt stop someone getting repairs before the MOT so the car keeps its clean history.

    Heavy/large, commercial vehicles need to get a fresh MOT every 6 months, as they are usually doing FAR more miles per year than the average car owner.
    (Possibly taxies as well, I cant remember).
    Garages LOVE to be certified to perform the MOT, as it pulls in so much repair work, although many do take advantage and give recommended repairs that arent actually needed to pass; the most common seems to be claims the brake pads need changing - I had that 6 years straight from 4 different MOT stations - before the pads ACTUALLY needed changing.
    These garages are pretty strictly regulated, and if they stray too far from total honesty, they can have their MOT station status revoked.

    Most tourists in any country miss the true nature of the counry.... even though we are an island most tourists don't realise the coast and sandy beaches, surfing etc are places they miss out on.
    The thing is pubs don't often serve good fish and chips ... you need to go to a local chips shop
    families go to pubs for birthdays, and events as well as a drink .... there are men's sports pubs and some are for the youngsters and loud music at weekends etc but generally on pubs are social gatherings places and we might meet there casually during the day time. and the country pubs and their gardens and play areas are great for young and old, drinkers or passing through for a cuppa tea or coffee.
    there's a lot of singing in pubs ... (sometines sporty chanting) but also a lot of live music and folk and jazz etc

    Yorkshire tea is fine but in general it’s black tea we crave, hot and with a little milk.

    Yorkshire Tea relates to (the brew: But also...), the county of Yorkshire (4 areas - possibly like small states from the USA - North, South, East and West, colloquially known as Yorkshire ), as locally we call it "Gods County", as the natural landscapes are beautiful.

    Sure Americans watch mostly U.S. and Canada shows (which many don't realize they are made there, mostly Toronto and Vancouver). However I'm one and I know there are many others who watch a fair amount of British tv series as well. Iconic comedy series Mr. Bean was my first exposure and you can't forget the phenomenal Dr. Who! Nowadays I mostly watch crime dramas. Sherlock and Luther are probably the best known.

    A car without an MOT stands a good chance of being pulled over because ANPR cameras are everywhere, and police cars also have them. They will take the car off you and tow it to a yard and there is a fee to pay for that. You can arrange an MOT test and get the car from the yard to take it to the testing station only (providing you also show a valid driving licence and insurance) or if you feel the car is not worth fixing you can elect to have it crushed. You also get points on your license for driving a car without an MOT. This is the same for driving without insurance, points on your license and the car will be towed. To get it back you have to show you have insured it before you can drive it away. Also depending on how long it is in the yard before you collect it, there is a daily charge added to the cost of the tow. This can quickly build up.

      Actually any car could be pulled over by Police to confirm everything is OK , it’s not a MOT but they check licence , road tax , wheels of the car the usual stuff to confirm it and you are in a drivable state I.e. not drunk or high on drugs

    The National Trust is a UK-wide organisation that takes over the care and management of all kinds of historically important buildings such as Castles, Mansion houses etc, along with ancient forests, Natural Parkland, tourist attarctions etc. they have tp pay their way, and so visitors are very welcome but there is a charge based on one payment per customer. If you want to visit a lot of such places you can purchase discounted tickets that will allow you free entry into as many sites as you wish - but you do need to check the various rates for individuals, families, OAP's etc. As with any services, always check the specific website.
    MOT's has only been partly explained, Each year the Licencinf Agency will send a notice reming you that your MOT is due. If you continue to drive beyond the due date, you are liable to caught by police from their database. Your MoT will chaek all the relevent components, and at the end will produce a cerificate that will state Pass, Fail of warning. The Fail section wil contain a list of parts that need immediate repair or replacement, which the testing unit may offer to themselves or alternatively you can have it done at a garage of your choice.. So, while the MoT is a good thing, you will have to pay for test (usually about an hour) which varies, depending on whether it's a motorcycle, small car, laege care or heavu Commercial vehicle (the list is long). You will then have to pay for any repairs et, and don't forget that you still have your annual Vehicle Road Tax to pay! The days have gone when you could drive a vehicle that had a hundred problems and dangerous for any road user - simply because many folk didn't want to pay for new tyres or a piston change. The MoT has changed all that. IF your vehicle doesn't have a valid MoT or Road Tax and you have an accident, your insurance will not cover you.
    British TV has become a living, breathing joke, with the joke being in this who want the main channels - Basically BBC and ITV with a few othe independents also. However, to use a TV in the UK you have to have a annual licence, for which you get programmes that go back as far as the 1950's and 60's - OK in their time, but if you've been around for a long time, you're paying for the same old thing year after year. Because of that, many people pay additional for streaming programmes, but here again, most of it is American as well as British crap that nobody wants. The maximum fine for not having a licence is £1,000 or jail!! It's really a tax implemented by the BBC to pay for their programmimg, but in fact covers the ability to watch commercial channels as well..
    The lady must have been stuck in one place, because "Hiya" is not a universally used in the UK; in fact, you only have to travel 20 or 30 miles in any other direction and the greeting will be quite different. There are far too many greetings to list, and some of them are dependent on how well you know the person; but some examples are "How's it going?" "Y'allright?" "Morning;" "Hello there."
    It's basically only the dollybirds, female office workers and their male counterparts who simply shout "Hi" to those they know! Perhaps the most common greeting is "Nice morning/Horrible morning" etc. There is no set usuage as it depends on the region, people you don't know, those you know well, workmates....as I say, the list is endless.

    MOT is the law to drive it on the public road.
    However, I think you’re thinking of a service which is just good practice to maintain the vehicle.
    It’s not the only country; Germany has similar test centres.

    In France à car must have a control technique every 2 years. If your car fails the control technique you have 2 months to fix the problem and have the car retested.

    Car inspection/MOT is required in some states. Also, even in some states, it's required in some counties but not in another county in the same state.

    I am a National Trust member, it costs just over £90 a year. Very close to where I live the National Trust owns a large property of formal gardens and woodland. It’s a great place to walk a dog. As a member I get in free, if I wasn’t a member it would cost about £16 each time, so only 6 visits and I’m saving money.

    Yorkshire is a very good tea, now very popular partly because the other big brands like PG stopped selling 'loose' tea, (not in a tea bag). To brew tea properly is very simple but often done incorrectly. Loose tea, brewed in a tea pot (or covered jug), in freshly boiled water and kept hot under a cosy (bobble hat) for 3 - 4 minutes. Pour through a tea strainer into a cup/mug, with milk and sugar to personal taste.
