i kept on losing my bees over the years and gave up last year. Seems as though the queen dies or leaves and the hives slowly dies off. I've never found any dying brood or evidence of mites when cleaning up the boxes.
Sorry about yet another problem with your bee keeping. If it's not one thing it is another. Hopefully at some point you will have some very strong hives and know how to prevent or attack further problems and keep your hives strong!
I see your using Langstroth hives. I thought you had top bars that you built. I have 3 Langstroths, had to combine so down to2. Looks like both may survive winter.
🐝🐝G'day Jon, thanks for this very educational video luckily for me Australia at this moment does not have Verona mites however I'm guessing it's only a matter of time 🐝🐝hopefully not my lifetime🐝🐝 finally happy New Year for 2017, Tim 🐝🐝
Diatamaceous earth (spelling could be off). We're lucky enough not to have the beetles in NZ - enough problems with varroa without adding them into the mix...
Buon lavoro, ciao
Personally I don't want to see an AFB video from Jon, for the simple fact that I wouldn't wish it on anyone - killing a hive intentionally is the most heartbreaking thing you can do as a beekeeper, but it's the only allowable solution in NZ, and the most responsible thing to do anywhere (and burning all infected equipment). I believe shook swarming is allowable in some parts of the US, but I wouldn't want to risk it mysself.
Thanks for the information, Jon, Ed and Mary, and a big thanks also to the scientists for their tireless research.
Ed visits the barn and talks about the Varroa mite and how and why he uses oxalic acid to treat the hives.
Finally- an explanation for the loss of our bees. Thanks for the information, Jon.
Nice ! You can find Oxalic acid in Rubarb Leafs ! it's also use as a decoction for spraying vegetables ! pretty natural !
Both these guys know their stuff
Does formic acid work? Doesn't need the heating apparatus, right?
This is all really cool stuff Jon. Very interesting. Keep it coming!

Thanks again Jon, excellent information.

what video camera/s do you utilize in making your videos?
there is a certain type of soil (I forget the name) that will disrupt the cycle of hive beetles if you place it below the bee hive

Check out Neonics, the nicotine-based pesticides, some think this is a big killer.
American Foul Brood, AFB, is a much bigger and more dangerous problem. Nice informative video though.
