Hello, can I treat colonies 2 times with oxalic acid dribble, one time in October and again in December?
Hi Paul, Has your department looked at other ways of applying Oxalic Acid? Single yearly application of Oxalic Acid is no longer wise. In New Zealand the use of "Staples", from Dry Wall tape (dull porous type) in three layers and Cardboard Staples is the method of application throughout the beekeeping year. OA Sponges are another. It would be very interesting if your department investigated, monitored the methods. Being a leading University with a bucketful of knowledge on bees, your opinion and the University would be most respected. Regards

We haven't been recommending multiple applications of OA as it can be toxic to bees with repeat dosage.

@@UoGHoneyBeeResearchCentre I measured mine..it takes 4 pumps per seam ,just a 99 cent spray bottle, nothing fancy but fast and seen no adverse effects only positive..

Nice OA Discussion. My Treatment of Choice.
A very useful Varroa Mite Treatment. Especially, if you do several different types and methods of Varroa Reducing practices. Randy Oliver recommends doing a number of different ways each Bee Season. (Eg, Trickle, Strips, Vap, Trays, Cage, Splits, etc, etc ...
We need to outwit these darn Varroa. 👀

Done a bit of Fact finding. (Still to ascertain.) Is a OA Trickle and Vaporisation using OA Crystal's classed as the Same thing ?
I've used OA Trickle, well here in Scotland. 🏴
Did this last Mid Winter, also earlier this year, with my Nucs. With other management/products too.
Have just purchased a Gas Vap : Lovely easy Gadget, using a Creme Brulee Torch ! (No leads, Car Batteries etc !) 🤭
Can I Trickle, now, and do a Vap in say Mid Dec ?
Or negate the Trickle, and Vap instead !?!
Gas Vap : will be lovely to use, knowing Scottish Winters are Cold, and I will not have to Pop those Hives Roofs off cosy Bees.

No nothing just normal oxalic acid..
Is your application process & OA quantity the same if treating a double-deep colony?

You apply 25 ml to the bottom brood chamber and 25ml to the top one.

Is there a temperature that is too cold to do this liquid application to the bees?
We are usually applying it at - 5C to +5C. I don't know if there is a lower limit.

Would it be beneficial to capture the queen prior to the drip treatment, then releasing her rather than dripping the solution on her also?
This method doesn't seem to harm the queen so removing her isn't necessary.
I just can't get on board with wetting bees in winter. OAV for me.

They both have their place and can be used under different circumstances.
I bought a faulty vaporizer, I am from sask. I have 3 hives (2 deeps ) ( one single) is it too cold for this treatment now?
We don't use vaporizers so I can't comment.
Maybe you meant Oxalic trickle. If there is brood no oxalic application method is very effective.
I'd use formic pro, single dose, when the temps work for that product.

Apivar is insecticide.....I mean....NO!!! Thymovar is way better. Still thank you for all your video...I do Oxalic with Varrox spoon.
Why don’t you spray down a frame rather than drip?
We do the application when the weather is cold. It's tough on bees to remove the frames at that time.
@@UoGHoneyBeeResearchCentre THanx for getting back to me. I’ve got topbars and spraying is effective coverage wise, but I understand regarding colder temps. Luckily I can dribble or spray. Maybe if we have one more warm day eh? All the best to you and your team..

Yes it was windy that day.
We now record with a lapel mike hooked up to a cell phone. We get less wind noise that way.
