I remember the first time an Oldster experience Circle Track Racer, told me to make a Spacer out of Wood. I kinda freaked, but did it, and it works just fine. I made it for a single plane. 2" thick. Used a Hole Saw to make 4 holes and a Rat Tail file to Taper the Holes. Results? Noticeable better low end torque among other things
I'm running a total fo 4 inches of spacers, on a stock duel plane intake with raised air cleaner for the cowl induction. Lots of torque with tall plenum and short runners. Gonna top it off with my Edelbrock 800 CFM AVS2 ,carb.
Anyone remember those crappy ones they had where it was gasket, thin spacer, gasket, thin spacer and so on. So many of those went into the trash because they always leaked. Good advice.
I got a lightweight dual plane manifold and i have 2 inches of open spacer under my carb now. I had to advance the timing slightly and now i have a little less low end power but it increased the high end power.
I put a restricted spacer on my 400 in my dirt car and it turned it into a torque monster. I would have never guessed restricting an engine would benefit
I use an open spacer on the 400 in my F250. It's the only one I have experience with and it works pretty well! Might have to make a tapered one and try it out though!
I'm going to run a pair of Edelbrock AVS2 carbs on my TR5 Edelbrock tunnel ram. It has about an inch of straight open hole, then it expands into the main plenum. My plan is to drop the spacer down inside the hole an leave about 1/4" on top to seal. I will taper it out to fit as the AVS2 has smaller primaries than secondaries. I'm also running progressive linkage and using the rear carb as my primary.
I have yet to see a test where the 4 hole didn’t put perform the open spacer below 6k. Duel or single didn’t matter. We’re talking like 5hp across the board. If you need it above 6k go open. Also, surprise to me but apparently the Edelbrock performer RPM just crushes to 6500. Look it up
i got a dual port intake on my truck (special straight 6 intake) so i gotta use a 4 hole spacer or else it will whistle under certain throttle positions 😂
Ever wonder why every wicked hot rod ever produced by Detroit didn’t have a spacer? Bottom end. Because that’s where most folks drive. Carb spacers are like Daylight Savings Time. They take away from one end and put it on the other and try to convince you it’s better. “Oh yeah! Above 5k it’s awesome!” Nope. I got a stack of em if anyone wants one. You put 4, 2” 5/16 bolts with nuts on it. Set it on your work bench, studs up. Makes a perfect carb holder! 😂
......you can literally take your argument and replace the word "carb spacer" with "camshaft" lol 😆 Because when you put a big rowdy cam in it to take advantage of the better heads you put on it thats all your doing is taking from the bottom and putting it on the top 🤣 Same can be said with headers too. And once you put the 3,500 stall in it and more gear so you are up in the power band the new cam gives you........your argument doesn't make a whole lot of sense 😅
I run a 1 inch spacer made out of that white nylon machinists use it's been holding together perfectly for over 10k+ miles and over 6 months. As long as the hood closes it's fine right? haha! That spacer of yours looks awesome!
Endless ? Only GOD is endless ! So many people misuse this statement, also dont say never, because sure enough it will happen, dont say always, because some one will find an exception , we need to be more aware of what we say . Hope this helps !
Hi ! ...all you just presented it is just compromises ! put each cylinder their own carburetor !...use GPL vs gas !...then we talk about another level of power !
When you have many professional credible engine builders testing and evaluating these kinds of things on a dyno and at the track why would you bother with rules of the thumb. Much has been done on UA-cam.

Nice!! 😁
Thats old school hot rodding right there 🙂

Check out Eric Weingartners channel for some dyno testing of intake manifolds and spacers.
Yes he has great stuff. Him an Richard Holdener are the best.
I'm running a 2" Phenolic 4 hole on top of a Vintage Edelbrock F4B
Love the theme of your space. Engines in the living room. Wheels also. Car Lovers Paradise!!
Yes it is! 😃

Try the taper. Open spacers tend to reduce carb response. Try it an come back n let us know if you could tell a difference!
Good info, and I like how your garage is decorated in a Kitchen motif.
Yes makes me feel right at home 😂
Thank you for watching! 😃
Just take a 4 hole and cut out the center and you got a cloverleaf which is the 4th style, works great.
At 1 angle it appeared the giraffe was drinking from the cup. Very good content and presentation.
Thank you for watching 😁

Sounds like a sweet setup! 👍

See what did I tell ya! Always a combo that gose against the rule of thumb 🤣
@@newguysgarage6802 yep! luckily for me the wrong setup literally told me that it wasn’t ideal lmao
FUNolic spacers for the win!
I believe the "wood" spacer would be phenolic .
Good info, especially the outro, the "dramatic pauses" were a teeny bit distracting.
I saw a dino video of a guy who put the four hole tapered in upside down it made more power than any of the spacers in that combo

Really good Video
I had my Zippo engraved "Four Doors For More Whores" but Four Holes really got my undivided attention. Go on?

Ryertex is the name of material. This stuff expensive 40 years ago. Lasts forever.
Ahhh I see 🙂
Thanks for the infor
The rule of thumb is: DONT WASTE your money. They don’t do shit!
The thin one is an adaptor plate. The other is made of Bakelite.
What's up with that Bigsby Rig ya got there?
Was the brother's (New Guy's Guitar) thats his channel!
Band member stole it and pawned it long time ago....he still misses that guitar a lot 😕
The four hole is called a cloverleaf
Wouldn't the clover leaf be a 4 hole but the middle removed?
It's called the exception that disproves the rule. Lol

I saw you drop a hint about Nos. Do you feed it thru the side of the spacer
It has its own spacer with the spray bar in it 😁
Will go under the other two spacers is the plan for now.
@@newguysgarage6802I have an unknown spacer with a hole in the back with two inlets feeding the back two larger holes ok for N02?
@ryanmaurer3531 ....is it a nitrous plate or just a vacuum port?
@@newguysgarage6802 might just be a vacuum port
@@ryanmaurer3531 kinda sounds like it 😅
👍
Hi ! ...all you just presented it is just compromises !

you guys all want to make power. I'm trying to burn more gas than I boil in the carb when I shut her down.
The only benifit I see or want from a spacer is a heat isolation. Thats it no rocket science here. Wood 0,5 inch dual for my dual manifold.

Because that is were the rules of thumb come from lol
Take what they have learned and give a general consensus of it for people lol.
