    Everyone says I'm an amazing singer and say I should go on talent shows and I know nothing about singing, if I learn to sing I'm not sure if I'll get better, or if I'll lose my uniqueness that everyone loves lol. I sing just from years and years of listening to music, which is I'm sure how everyone used to do it, but I'm enjoying the videos. I'd love a professional to critique me, cause I know the tone of my voice is great, cause people have been telling me all of my life, and I'm also aware I know nothing about singing.

    I have a question. Assuming that a neutral stable larynx is best for singing, which of the following would you rank as the worst out of the four types of moving larynges and how would you rank the other three?:
    1. A tense larynx that moves according to the pitch of a note
    2. A relaxed larynx that moves according to the pitch of the note
    3. A tense larynx that moves up and down very quickly with vibrato
    4. A relaxed larynx that moves up and down very quickly with vibrato

    Based on The Anatomy of the Voice, you want to lower the cricothyroid or larynx down all the time even more when singing into head voice. When its high it tightens the throat. You get best wave vibration from pulling the larynx down.

    the larynx should move up and down without forcing it to any position. Either low, neutral, or high, they’re all different options. There’s no ‘right' position, they are all different options. As long as there’s no false-chord contraction, there’s no big problem.

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Felix, thanks for the comment. I respectfully disagree. You want to keep the larynx in a neutral position since that stabilizes the first formant location and resonance. Also, I never advocated for "forcing" it into a position, but rather letting it rest.

    • @Advanceyourenglish5
      @Advanceyourenglish5 4 роки тому

      Ramsey Voice Studio anyways, if you leave the larynx in one position, you’re not letting it move freely. It shouldn’t be in one position all the time. No matter whether it is low, middle, or high.

    • @Advanceyourenglish5
      @Advanceyourenglish5 4 роки тому +3

      Ramsey Voice Studio the neutral position of the larynx is just one way of singing. It doesn’t apply to all styles. Belting for example. if you want to get a speech quality sound, a neutral larynx is fine, but if you want to sing something more metallic, a high larynx is the right option. None of the positions are healthier than the other. They’re all equally valid. you can sing with a neutral larynx and be full of false-chord constriction. That’s more dangerous than using a higher larynx. Same thing with low or high larynx. As long as you’re free of constriction, all of them must be an option. if not, there are big problems regardless of the position of the larynx your using.

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Vedanth, great question. If you're not singing with your full voice, it's very possible that your nervous system will try to "assist" the pitch by raising the larynx to make up for the loss of adduction. Instead, I would recommend singing with a really strong mix first, and then learning to back off the volume while still in mixed voice. Check this out: ramseyvoice.com/mixed-voice/

  • @quiddy
    @quiddy 4 роки тому +2

    Wouldn’t this run the risk of “coloring” your voice, which damages your voice in the long run? Trying to maintain that round, open sound as you go high, while making you sound more soulful or Whitney Houston-esque, is bad for your voice. Regine Velasquez sometimes sings with a high larynx when she sings passages with high notes, and she’s never fallen into the trap that most singers commit in trying to sound soulful by rounding their voice even in their upper range (paging Christina Aquilera). While she gets criticized for sounding too bright, her longevity can only attest to her proper singing technique, one of which is to allow herself to sing with a high larynx as needed.

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  4 роки тому

      Hey Chris, great points. Actually, I'm not suggesting "coloring" your voice at all. Instead, like I mentioned in the video, many beginning singers will sing with too high of a larynx which can impair their ability to sing higher. So if we add a bit of a "yawny" sound to the high larynx, the larynx will actually "rest" more in the middle which is the perfect place.

    • @quiddy
      @quiddy 4 роки тому

      Ramsey Voice Studio so the question is: do we always have to apply this “yawny” sound when singing high. If not, then the question becomes, “when should you apply this technique when singing high.” Otherwise, if you believe this “yawn-ey” sound should be applied all the time, then doesn’t this conflict with the technique of widening your mouth, as if you’re smiling like Joker from Batman (a really bright smile), when singing high? The idea behind this technique is by brightening your vowels (ie singing “I love yaaaah” instead of “I love yooooo”), it creates a shape inside the mouth that is conducive to resonant and healthy belting.

    Transgender male to female speech therapy oftentimes focuses on raising the larynx to achieve a more feminine resonance. Do you have any advice for transgender mtf singers that have to rely on a raised larynx for their voice? Or do you have an advice for achieving a more feminine tone without raising the larynx? I know the last question may be a bit out of your area...

    Has this muppet ever formally apologised to Diana Ankudinova for slandering her with claims of post-processing and using backing singers?

      Hey Mark, I stand by my original assessment. I'd love to see a live acoustic recording of her where she sings in that way. I'm always open to being wrong, but those shows have a LOT of post-production on them, hers included.

      @@ramseyvoicestudio I don't know what you want because the only way would for you and her to be in the same room and her without a microphone. UA-cam is awash with amazing performances from her with a broad selection of music types but she's always got a microphone, else it wouldn't get recorded. The moment she's got a microphone in her hand you can claim it's being processed in some fashion, no? Anyway, here's a great live performance she did for Russian Radio of her French song, Derniere Danse - ua-cam.com/video/b6bgN8ZwAOs/v-deo.html If you can't hear the deep chocolaty quality in her voice then I just don't what to tell you.

      Hey Mark, thanks for the reply. I watched the video you sent. This definitely also has some post production on it. You can clearly hear the reverb throughout. All I want is an all acoustic performance. Like her singing in a room in front of a camera, rather than a whole setup.
      I'm totally open to changing my opinion, but even the recording you sent sounds WAY more normal than the original one I commented on.

    My problem is when singing high it's either haaaaa.. or aiiiieo.... Which sounds bad.
    But Ramsey's high voice sounds like haaaa..(aaaaa)
    In my case that (aaaa) is gone 😂
    Do you have any exercise or technic for that?

    I’m sorry but what you say is not correct. You do not have to find a balance. If you need to sing the high notes you need an high position of the larynx instead if you need to sing low notes you need a low position, this is because the larynx position controls the length of our vocal chords. In high notes the larynx rises and lengthens the vocal cords and give versa.
