These restoration videos are wonderful. If you have the time, I would watch anything Tank Museum restoration-related. Just small updates on all the upcoming, ongoing projects, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
This Vickers tank is related to the Universal Carrier, also known as the Bren Gun Carrier. You can see in the beginning of the video that the suspension is very similar to the Bren Gun Carrier's. Good to see the preservation of their country’s heritage.
I think a shout out to the main donor would be nice. The Tank museum is doing great things all the time, but that takes something to get a small lonely tank restored :)
Often times the people who donate big amounts of money don't want to be publicly named... I would imagine they are worried about their privacy as people would know they are well off enough to make a large donation to restore a tank!
Thanks for an informatrive and interesting video. I always thought that the Light Mk IV was a half-tank which had suffered from the great deression era of MOD cut-backs and stingyness.
In the future the Tank museum should look into older US tractors for parts. Alot of tank engines were based off of up scaled tractor motors. Those Meadow pistons look alot like the 40's post war International M uses.
I am restoring two MkV1a Vickers at the moment with the meadows engine. Are there any more rings, pistons or in fact any engine parts would be a help. I'm in Australia.
The commander in that photo at the end was having what the good 'ol Chieftain would refer to as 'a significant emotional event'. In his brown pants. That were formerly not brown.
Fantastic channel and great work! However I would like to say....pistons for ANY engine are not an issue and neither are rings. There are numerous aftermarket piston companies that auto restorers use and that racers use. They can make you ANY piston you want in days. Either CC milled from billet, hypereutectic cast, forged...numerous alloys...any design. Yes the cost is roughly 2.5X what a stock piston out of another vehicle costs....but thats nothing in the big picture. Rings are the same. The big ring companies make custom rings all the time. Unless you are flat broke...items like that you really do not have to forage for. We are talking a few hundred dollars...not even thousands.
Why didn't they just put a thicker Head gasket on the engine to space the head farther away from the block? You need to give more details in these discussions, some of us are motorheads...
I know not many people have a great opinion of this vehichle but if we were invaded by the Germans the tank would come into its own as a mobile gun post on the beaches or going out to German landing sights and just dealing with any infantry that landed
Caiden coffman Bovington in the county of Dorset which is in the south of England. Bovington is also the school for the Royal Armoured Corps, British Army. Its the best tank museum in the world, i know from experience.
Elaniago look at a site called "Beutepanzer" it has lots of pics and information about captured vehicles used by the Germans. I cant recall the Mk IV being on it but pictures are added all the time. It does have conversions of Light Mk VI's to artillery and used in Russia.
Brakepads on my BRDM-2 which is an 80s (Soviet though) vehicle were still asbestos. Same for the wrappings around the exhaust pipes and the shielding between the exhaust and the body of the vehicle :)
FW200 The wrapping and heat shield aren't that big of a deal unless they're disturbed during maintenence, but breakpads? I bet there's a higher incidence of lung cancers amongst crews of those vehicles because of that. I've worked in several asbestos removal renovations in office buildings, and had to work in a Tyvek cleansuit, and a respirator, just to enter the building. SMH
Michael Coulter the vast majority of brake pads for *every* vehicle, whether drum or disc brakes, used asbestos in the pad material until the late 1970's. It's only in the 1980's (outside the society countries) and mid 1990's (inside Soviet countries) that everyone stopped. You can still buy asbestos pads for certain applications.
iatsd True, but I would have assumed that they would have been phased out, since the dangers of asbestos have been common knowledge for quite awhile. Guess it would be pretty expensive to replace them on military vehicles, especially given the shortfalls in funding in most Eastern Bloc countries in the late 90's
buy different pistons? Its not that expensive to have custom piston rings made... in fact its pretty cheap... wonders what they are thinking... sigh...
would really like to say your UA-cam channel content is very well produced and very informative. thank you
(I don't think they read the comments, unfortunately)
Didn't you mention tank you;-)

totally agree, best YT find :)

It's great to see the curator taking an active role in events. He actually cares (big surprise), but I think it's refreshing.
Curators in my experience are pompous wankers who love to lap up the limelight
This is yet another EXCELLENT video. You all are indeed a blessing!
Great it will be running at Tankfest 2017 because that is the first time I'll be at Tankfest, so I can see it with my own eyes :-)
I wish I had a million dollars to keep this fantastic museum going. Great work, important work.!
That tank foto at the end is golden. :D
Great work guys hope I'll be coming back down to the museum soon
Otherwise titled, Imperial Armour Paint Techniques #3. Nice video, thanks. I love the level of professionalism here.
This is fantastic, I find armor restoration work fascinating so its great to see a glimpse into all of this
If you haven’t already check out the(old) history channel show tank overhaul
2:25 Gavin's eyes were like "notice me senpai"
I was lucky enough to visit the tank museum last month and took many photos of their fully-restored light tank MKVI. Well worth a visit.
That picture at the end looked like fun!
Awesome stuff, looks like the old girl is in safe hands! Look forward to seeing this progress! Top notch as always chaps!
glad they can continue to restore these vehicles
kinda reminds me of the panzer I. made for training, forced into combat. very similar in terms of function as well
much faster.
his voice is just, perfect :3

So incredible to see.
Thanks.
Love the detail into the engine ect.
Can we PLEASE get a series on the SU-100 and T-34/85 restorations?!?!

Thanks for an informatrive and interesting video. I always thought that the Light Mk IV was a half-tank which had suffered from the great deression era of MOD cut-backs and stingyness.
Holy crap that's a lovely thing to do. If I do get some money, then ill give you some
Now if that's not awesome, I don't know what is.
Funky looking thing
I hope there is a part 2 coming.

you found mint in box piston rings for that thing???
You would be amazed what sits on shelves...
It was nice to see it fully restored and functional. Too bad that it was partly botched up a bit as it is running like this photo at 7:06.
its adorable
Please may you make a video on the vickers after it's restoration.
That thing have armor thin as coca cola can.
And about as much firepower.
club4ghz The armor can be penetrated by a well thrown flip flop.
Do NOT underestimate flip flops, those things are deadly especially in the hands of elders.
If it stops rifle bullets, it stops rifle bullets.
Evan depends on the round
Display it near the T-26
ziggy ashton
Yes!
7:06 it was at this moment the commander knew he f’ed up
Nippy :)
wonder how long a crew could be operational in such a small vehicle must be very fatigued to be inside
Instantaneous beard growth
nice to see the reme flag flying high
such a cute tank lol
that's designed to kill people lol
I understand a few saw combat in the Malayan/Singapore campaign. Any details surrounding this?
Those are license produced versions called Indian Pattern Light Tank. Basically the same thing.
Hire Lloyd to make all your videos. Thanks.
Any news on the Vickers

It was really nice to get an answer back to my question above!! NOT.
Interwar tanks are so ugly and I love them.
Magnesium? The flammable, softish metal?

do guys see model tanks on ur website?

Cute little tank but on the battlefield the crew would have been transformed into bully beef in 60 seconds!
I dont understand something. If the bore was the same why not switch the rings from the new piston to the original old piston?
Daehawk different shaped rings, at a guess? they're likely to be flat rings, given the period. the modern Volvo rings are likely to be L rings.
Really little 😮
were is tank museum

Who saw the image at the end of the video? Id say minor design problem....
I wonder what was going through that chaps head at the end of the video ... well, i can only presume it was something like "Christ on a bike !!!"
"What do you mean you saw a rabbit?!"
XD "Oh I say look a penny !!!"
"I meant to do that!"
"Right! That's it! I told you to stop kicking the back of my head! Get out!"
Any knowledge of what the Germans did to make it an assault tank?
Elaniago look at a site called "Beutepanzer" it has lots of pics and information about captured vehicles used by the Germans.

The gun looks uncircumsized
asbestos damn
