that original Taito stencil art and green paint look GREAT under there!!! Awesome job... looking forward to this Jungle King restoration! What a rare and unique machine!
Wow, it's amazing to see the dedication and passion you have for collecting classic arcade game cabinets! Networking with other collectors and doing favors for each other is such a smart approach. I can't wait to see how you restore the Joust and Taito cabinet. Your enthusiasm is infectious - keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks, Shawn - making friends with fellow collectors like yourself is a huge asset in this hobby! I’m really looking forward to restoring the Jungle King, but I’ll probably trade or sell this spare Joust cabinet.
Yeah you need a biscuit joiner! All you need is someone to trace the profile of their Taito cabinet. Ask Jow to trace his Zoo Keeper. Don't cut the shape before attaching the wood with the joiner. Join on two square pieces and then cut the shape afterwards.
@@overtimearcade if I were to do it I would cut the shape out of some board, patch in a square piece of particle board with the biscuit joiner then clamp the board you cut to shape to the cabinet and use a top bearing flush cut router bit, using the template board to cut the cabinet to shape. You can use the same template board on both sides. If you try and cut the shape before attaching it to the cabinet you are going to have a really bad time. BTW using a biscuit joiner is fun. Just practice on some scraps first
Print the template and glue it to a piece of wood and cut the shape out with a jig saw or band saw. That's now your template for your router with a flush cut bit.
just up too the bit where you removed all that black paint, what an absolute legend, that green under there, its a whole new cabinet and worth more than $50 now ;)
Love a Taito cabinet! My wife refinished ours this summer. It was converted into a Mr. Do! I have access to a jungle king board set for it but I’m loving Mr. Do! We have a Qix which my wife loves and keeps the high score on.
Hmmm, for me if I already had spare parts to bring these cabs back, I'd go for it, but that would also depend on other projects I had on the go. Otherwise yeah, as little too gone for me, I think they should have been left where they were.... LOL Saying all that, I'm looking forward to see what you do with them 🙂
Serious question, how do I make these friends? I've tried and while I am very introverted I think most of the arcade people I've met are not interested in any kind of interaction. The people I have attempted to make connections with are way way too far away to drive and meet up. Not sure if people are unwilling to make friends with women or I just have bad luck trying to make contacts. I'm super nice and active on forums and communities but most of the time I feel like I'm left in another room while there's a mens club in the adjacent room with a locked door.
It’s a great question and I’m sorry you’ve had such difficulty in the past. This hobby tends to attract introverts who often struggle with this sort of thing. Personally, I’ve had the most success in making new friends on KLOV, Facebook, Twitter, and with UA-cam viewers (of my channel & others). The best advice I can offer is to be as visibly active a participant in the hobby as possible: respond to people’s threads/comments, ask engaging questions, show off your collection/projects, share good deals, offer up a good price if you’re selling anything, and look for every opportunity to interact with other people. Taking conversations from a public setting to a private one (e.g., PM/DM, Messenger app, text message) can help build connections too. Real life events are key as well: attend a party (or host one of your own!), go where arcade enthusiasts hang out, and talk to them! And if you’re looking to interact with a group of fellow hobbyists who are friendlier than most, our private members-only Discord server is a lot of fun!
@@overtimearcade Thanks for the response! I have become very active on pinside and had an okay experience. I am on a few FB groups but there are a lot of not great people in some of those. I've been lagging on starting up my own channel but probably going to start soon. I'm really most active on tiktok trying to bring more younger people into the hobby. Not much outreach from the seasoned people trying to bring in younger audiences who can't afford titles at market price. I'll probably be more into the community part once I'm not spending half my time trying to fix up my house.
I’m all about being new/younger people into the hobby! And never pay market for working games - buy broken games and fix them up! 😎 That’s half the fun of the hobby!
@overtimearcade The algorithm I'm thinking since I watch a bunch of arcade videos. Sure glad it did. I'm picking up great tips and info. Thank you. I'm currently working on a Soul Calibur 2 arcade that's actually in a MK2 cab (that I just found out by stripping the paint). I'm slowly converting it back.

What do your recommend to cut the shape after attaching the wood? Jig saw or something else?

Very cool! I’d love to have a Qix cab someday. I keep missing out on local deals for them that go too fast!
@@overtimearcade I picked up a Qix and Pengo at the same time! I had trouble with my HSS in the Pengo too, but it’s working like a champ now!
@jsmays Nice! What was the trouble with your HSS kit??
@@overtimearcade it was one of the original roms if I recall. I usually leave them in, but it was not happy with them.
@jsmays Oh interesting! Was the PCB working before the HSS kit was installed?
I'm impressed with the way the Taito side art came up
Thanks, me too! If the other side is in similar shape, it’ll save me a ton of hassle having to redo the stencils!

I have an elevator action in great shape, definitely my favorite from the taito games of that era
Elevator Action is one I definitely want to get! I sadly missed out on a working one for a great price last year! 😭
@@overtimearcade I got mine for $600 and it didn’t do anything when powered on, put in a new power supply and it works great!
SWEET! Yeah, the original linear power supplies in this classic Taito cabs have a TERRIBLE reputation...
Never see any deals like this on the west coast.
Those are nice looking cabs.
Thanks! There are deals everywhere, but probably a lot more competition out west!
Pretty creative modification to that Taito cab. I'll give them that! Haha. Glad you got it and will be restoring it back to its former glory!
Thanks, bro! I wish I had your woodworking skills though! 😂
@@overtimearcade I wish I lived closer to you... we could do a crossover video! Haha
