In early-September of '89, a guy in Athens, Ohio (Dave Lundberg) went out and raised a ton of money (a lot of it from the local Coors Light distributor) to bring Greg to a criterium in Athens. This was just a week or so after he won Worlds. The entire town was inside out that day. Just amazing. They still talk about it to this day with great pride. And I still have some of the Coors Light shwag that they were handing out.
The best tour ever in my opinion. It had everything with Delgado missing the start and two riders on a comeback. I think of Fignon as the winner of the tour twice not the man who lost by seconds. At the time cycling was no where near as popular. It was so different and colourful and exciting. Loved watching it and doing it ever since
24:44 he's the bloke who would give Lance Armstrong some stick at the press conference when he returned to cycling in 2009. I don't blame him. He was right.

It was a proper race that year really exciting
Wonderful, truly wonderful. This tour had everything...
Coming back to this after Pogačar beat Roglič in the final time trial in 2020- the Lemond-Fignon of our generation
And these two from 2020 are from the same country

No one believed him. He was right.
Thanks for posting I have this on video.Great tour.
I started cycling and 89 and racing in 90 I’ve never heard about Fignon being booed on the final podium that is horrible. This sport is no joke man.
Fignon could’ve easily won with no aero bars by placing his hands at the center of the bars next to the stem.
Greg Lemond; le plus sympathique et intègre des champions cyclistes!
Greg lemond forever
Strong Partridge vibes at the start…
46:17 conformation that Greg Lemond will win the final stage of the 1989 Tour De France
Greatest tour ever!
The man!!!!!!
I remember this tour so clearly, watching it all with my Dad as a young boy. Great memories brought back. Thank you.
51:28 for the 1989 Tour De France lanterne rouge
13:10 tour de France has got a plethora of stories since 1903
Delgado must have cried back at the hotel...
I heard he didn’t get back to the hotel in time and was locked out for the evening
