Interesting fact: The DC-10 that was involved in the Turkish Airlines Flight 981 accident was originally scheduled to be handed over to All Nippon Airways, but due to the Lockheed incident, L-1011s were introduced and ANA avoided a fatal accident.
okay once again for you kiddos: the DC-10 was a plane that was rushed to compete with the (then) new L1011 (sound familiar?) yes it had it's ups and downs BUT the DC-10 stayed grounded for FAR less time then the Max. now onto the explaination of the crashes mentioned here: both the american and turkish flights ARE crashes (with one being fatal) that resulted from the Planes design flaw the united 232 crash was due to mechanical failure of Engine number 2 (which was united fault NOT the planes fault) martinair 495 was fully the crews fault for not aboarding a unsafe landing (cause was a hard landing due to windshear now tell me how tf u gon blame the F**king plane for weather) all in all the DC-10 had it's ups and downs at the start BUT only ever had 2 crashes from its own design flaw (no you cannot list both fedex flights because those WERE MD-11s). and in the end the DC-10 was MUCH safer and continued to fly for a very very long time. now if you gonna pull the "but look at the amount of accidents it had" card, i wanna counter with "look at how many accidents the MD 80 had" "look at how many accidents the 747 had". you cannot compare the time NOW with the time THEN, accident happened alot more back then BECAUSE THE TECHNOLOGY wasnt at the standard that it is at now. the martinair 495 DC-10 crash was avoidable, afterall there is the saying "you can always go around". (windshear wasnt unknown martinair flight 495 happened 7 years AFTER the delta airlines flight 191 crash, so windshears WEREN'T a new thing to the crew)
JAL DC10 was crazy
FYI : the L1011 Tristar was more safer than DC10 way back

Real aviators don't think of the DC 10 as a death machine
the DC-10 is not a death chamber because it only has 55 crashes and he 737 has 530 crashes
