  • A software update is coming! Learn how to get your 2020 Outback/Legacy ready for the update if Subaru decides to make the update available for wi-fi updates. NOTE! I got the order of the icons slightly wrong. The order is: Car's wifi for updates, then the wifi hotspot LTE connection, then Bluetooth, then your phone's connection, then battery on your phone.
    Note: I do not work for Subaru or a Subaru retailer. I am only an owner and am providing these videos for informational purposes only. Please always refer to your Owners Manual for official information.

    I hope that Subaru will give a choice in the future on using Garmin maps as opposed to their built in Tom Tom.

      That would be awesome!! All my portable GPS units are Garmin. I trust them way more than Tom Tom.

    Subaru uses 2.4 Gigahertz Wi-Fi because it has about twice the range of 5.0 and is more likely to reach your car parked outside your house. Traditionally 5.0 has been used in enterprise environments where they use many short-range access points so that they can connect a large number of employees in a densely packed office building. 5.0 has become popular on home routers recently but 2.4 is not outdated and is the best choice if you want to connect to Wi-Fi from your back yard patio or your car. Great video. Just thought you would like to know that Subaru made the correct choice using 2.4.

    Looking forward to the rumored Update! I'm glad that Subaru is proactive, and not satisfied with maybe one update at the end of every year of the Car Lifetime Cycle.

    Please keep us updated on anything you hear about the software update. I sent an email to Subaru about this but only got a general answer thanking me for my business. Didn’t really expect the answer I was looking for. Great videos, keep up the good work!

    Details of the update have finally emerged! Today (June 22nd, 2020), Subaru posted details about their latest version. As soon as it is available I'll be making videos showing all the changes. The big one is full-screen vertical Apple CarPlay! I will update everyone as soon as I get it installed and verify everything Subaru says works actually does work. Don't update until a few of us try it. I want to make sure you don't get more problems or new bugs that could be major issues. Give us a chance to test it. Subscribe for updates.

      I’m at the Subaru dealership and they just told me they have a software update but it would take 2 hours to install that I don’t have time to wait for. Did you hear anything? Will be rescheduling the install

      I was told the software update will be available in a month for consumer download or you can get it done at the dealership now before the update release. I scheduled an appointment for July 1st to get installed just in case something breaks

      It would be very useful to set shortcuts to specific settings, I agree! I gave that feedback to Subaru. Hopefully others do the same. It would be useful for AVH and X Mode as well (among other things).

      Randy Beers consider pushing the deicing button on front right side. Once engaged, auto stop/start won’t indicate an amber color on the center screen, but it will keep the car running at a light. The setting can be changed from 15 minutes to continuous on the main screen. Once the engine is turned off and then back on, you would need to touch the deicing button again. Just a little easier than the two step process on the main screen.

      @@SubaruOwnerTips speaking of the AVH feature, I certainly want that ON always. I know that I can toggle that ON in the settings...does it STAY on after that...or is it like the auto start/stop and have to go into the screen every time you crank the car up to turn it on?

    Only problem is software and map updates over Subaru's WiFi take FOREVER! And I do mean forever to download. Subaru NEEDS to speed up the download process... of course I'm not holding my breath on that.

    i really enjoy your videos and find them extremely helpful...i do have a question. what setting should i use when using lane departure feature? warning light only? all functions? the lane departure lights don't always indicate when i drift over the lines. the dealer did tell me that the clarity of the lines could be a factor and their service department told me that if the cameras were malfunctioning, i would have a warning light...the blind spot feature works very well but the lane departure worked well for a week or so and now seems very hit or miss...the windows are clean so that is not a factor in the eyesight of the camera and i've only had this car for 2+ weeks and as such, not that familiar with all the little features...thank you for any help you can give me and keep the videos coming...i've already took your advise on several issues and it worked out great...thanks again.

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 роки тому

      I strongly recommend using warning only, and not "all functions." There are many ways the system can be fooled. You might experience a sudden jerking of the steering wheel if you have "all functions" on in rare cases. My advice for all Eyesight related features is to keep experimenting with them in safe conditions. Always be prepared to take over. The system is fantastic even with its limitations. You should be familiar with the types of conditions that can confuse the cameras. There is a learning curve. Though as one of the Outback's best features, it is well worth learning.

    My 2020 Outback is map version 17080 but Map Downloader is downloading version 19739 (1/17/2020). When I try updating via wifi nothing happens so I'm going to try updating via USB

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 роки тому +1

      The 2020 map update must be done by USB. Wifi won't cut it. I'm guessing you can't update the base map over wifi, and the over the air updates are for smaller updates.

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 роки тому +2

      I don't think it is the focus so much as it is the low-light video performance on the iPhone 11 "pro." It is a horrible video camera and can't seem to handle the "bright" screen. It looks even worse if I turn up the brightness. I've been experimenting with lots of ways to try and improve the quality. At this point, I'm about ready to just go and purchase a dedicated camera. Thanks for the feedback. I really do appreciate it.

    Can you help me ¡¡¡¡. a few days ago I had a problem with my Subaru Outback 2020, I downloaded the system update, it restarted as usual but the screen stayed frozen as if it were loading the update, 15 days have passed and still no I can't use any screen function. Does anyone know how I can solve this error?
    Neither button works nor does the normal reset.
    I already disconnected the battery and it didn't work either.
    Eyesight doesn't work

      There have been several updates. If you join the 2020+ Outback forum on Facebook you can download the files to do it yourself... Or you can go to a service center. I believe Subaru has basically given up on the over the air update process.

    In this or a previous video you indicated that if the build-in GPS is set to New York the dealer did not accurately complete the pre-delivery checklist (unsure of the actual name of the checklist). My 2020 Outback limited does not have built-in GPS, however the weather setting is set for New York (I'm in Wisconsin.) Is this a related issue (i.e. failure to complete the checklist)? I did have some other delivery issues and I would not be surprised if the dealer took short cuts in prepping the vehicle. I want to hold them accountable if they failed to complete the checklist. Thanks in advance! Great series!!

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 роки тому

      Technically, yes. However it is easy to fix. Go in to the "SXM Travel Link" app and manually select your location. I have a video planned for it.

    • @DavidStevensMr
      @DavidStevensMr 4 роки тому

      @@SubaruOwnerTips Thanks for the reply. Given that NY weather is displayed...is this sufficient evidence to go back to the dealer and ask to see the completed dealer pre-delivery checklist? I'm more concerned about other things they may have missed than the NY weather.

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 роки тому

      @@DavidStevensMr, It is up to you of course. However, if you feel they missed other things as well for sure take it back and ask them to resolve anything you are concered with. I ran in to a few similar issues post delivery. Ultimately decided it was less of a hassle to fix the items on my own rather than go back.

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 роки тому

      If your phone has a 2.4Ghz wifi hotspot in it, the Outback should be able to connect to the phone no problem. Or, it can connect to any other 2.4Ghz wifi hotspot in range. That said, I've heard downloads can be quite slow. Be sure you have a portable charger, or that your phone is fully charged, before attempting an actual update! Simply checking for updates shouldn't be a problem.
