Notes from the taper (Seth): "I had heard of the Flaming Lips and their crazy shows but I was not anywhere near mentally prepared for what was about to happen. I really don't even know how I could possibly describe the crazy wild ride this show was. Q magazine put The Flaming Lips #14 in '50 Bands to See Before You Die' and I would have to agree. If this wild bunch ever comes near you snap up some tickets as quickly as you can. I thouroughly enjoyed this show and once again, only wish it was longer.
Between the balloons, confetti, gong, teletubbies, Wayne Coyne's ride around the audience in a bubble, the costumes, weird roadies, colours & sounds - what an experience! Music was good, but this was a fun, fun, fun show. Wow. Did I mention that it was fun? Wayne Coyne is a nut case…but fun. And all while the sun slowly crept behind the ever present Mount Currie. Superb.
Things to listen for:
My voice praising MMJ's performance and asking my neighbour how many albums they have during soundcheck, Wayne's story about the Australian guy, the woman desperately trying to get one of the many floating balloons that had the misfortune of coming near me.
This recording will naturally sound much better cranked up loud with quality headphones!
