Hey folks! As you'll note during the video, this preview is based on the Mina the Hollower demo AntDude and I played at PAX East 2023 and this preview discussion was recorded roughly a week and a half after the show. Various unfortunate factors contributed to this video being delayed as long as it was, but there haven't been any new public Mina demos since PAX East so this preview is still 100% representative of the latest playable demo of Mina. Thanks so much for your patience! :) -- Ash
Ugh I can’t wait. I was only 12 when Shovel Knight originally released, so I was a little young to contribute to that kickstarter, so I jumped on Mina as soon as it was announced. Yacht Club never disappoints.
It's great to be part of a moment like this again! I was around your age now when Shovel Knight came out, and the hype was amazing. It was a really sweet moment to be part of, and it's great that Yacht Club continues to give us incredible games.
No lie, aside from Tears of the Kingdom and Ys X: Nordics, this is the game I'm most looking forward to playing. Love the character, love the mechanics, love the GBC style.
This game looks like such a great mashup of so many things I enjoy, namely Zelda and Castlevania. You could even say there's some Mole Mania elements with how you burrow underneath of stuff perhaps.
Great video guys, thank you for the warning about enemy combat. I was definitely not expecting Souls-like difficulty and XP harvesting but rather a Link’s Awakening hack/slash. Borrowing sounds fun!!
The moment I saw Mina the Hollower it was an instant Day 1 buy for me: I am a sucker for nostalgia, and Mina draws from way too many old-school games to NOT draw me in😂
High difficultly and annoying enemies might mean I’ll probably pass on this one. I prefer my Zelda-esques to be a little more laid back and puzzle/exploration-heavy. Love the aesthetic and weapons this game is offering, the GBA Link’s Awakening style is super underrated.
how i wish this is an actual GBC game instead of modern game that uses GBC aesthetic. To be honest, it would be more fun if it's an actual GBC game imho
>Souls Oh well, the game is ruined for me, I was excited for a game with the same vibes of the Zelda gbc games but sadly indie devs have some dying hard-on for souls shit
@@mrblub9327 What's wrong is that I don't like it, I'm aware that a lot of people love soulslike games, I don't, that's it. Enjoy the game, it's not for me
to be fair it seems like games with this gothic aesthetic always tend tend to be difficult. castlevania, bloodborne etc. it'd be weird to be in such a grim world and then have the game be chill af imo
@@meikaishi that’s totally fair. Souls combat requires a lot of concentration and patience before you feel a flow. Zelda combat can be understood immediately and enemies fall without much fuss. I happen to like both but they are very different styles indeed.
@@mrblub9327 It seems like every action game for the last several years inserts soulslike mechanics/difficulty just because it’s trendy. Or at the very least with indie games. It looks like it’ll be hard to judge your hitbox with jumping and burrowing mechanics in a top-down view with pixel art. Easier to tell in something like Castlevania or Mega Man because they’re side views. Burrowing helps you move faster, but these are limited to specific spots (how easy is that to distinguish?), don’t know if burrowing is limited or can be held without moving, and she apparently walks slow. I like the art and some of what I’m hearing/seeing, but it also sounds like there’ll be a lot of head bashing. Like you’ll try to accomplish something but the game buts up against that, all while enemies are relentless.
My biggest problem with this game is that Mina's sprite isn't very memorable. If you put a screenshot with her and an enemy in front of someone who doesn't know the game, they will have a hard time telling who is the hero. I undertand the visual style they were going for, but making her stand out a little more would be nice, in my opinion.
I recommend listening to the video if you’re worried that it plays like any typical indie Zelda clone. It sounds surprisingly deep and complex. Unless pixel/retro style just isn’t your thing 🤷

same here!
Very much excited for this game! Helped back it, so all I need to do is wait.
Perfect timing, so excited for Mina. Gonna fill the void for a new top-down Zelda.
Everything about this game is so relevant to my interests. Can't wait
I was so bummed I couldn't make it to PAX purely to try this game. It's in my top three most anticipated games this year, for sure.
This game looks like such a great mashup of so many things I enjoy, namely Zelda and Castlevania. You could even say there's some Mole Mania elements with how you burrow underneath of stuff perhaps.
Looking forward to this game!
This game looks and sounds amazing. Absolutely top notch.
this makes me feel good about backing this game. Looking forward to the finished product.
All I’m gonna say is that when I see I game where you play as a mouse, I expect there to be some sort of cheese power ups
Chee
I forgot this game was even coming out. It still looks interesting.
You guys are lucky, getting to play this.
Great vid. Looking forward to this one.
Awesome video, Mina is shaping up to be a great game!

I completely forgot this was coming out.
I'm SO hyped for Mina!!! 100% my vibe
So pumped for this, great preview and hoping to see it EOY or early '24 as Ash said 🙂
Ooooh this looks really good
Playing Mina was fun but I didn’t even make it to the boss, let alone beat them 😅
Is the physical still a $100 Kickstarter exclusive? That was the one thing that soured me on it originally.
Wow!
This really reminds me at STAR TROPICS on the NES!
I'm so excited for this game :P It's TOTK, Silksong, then this are the upcoming 3 games I actually care about lol
I feel this is looking more close to star tropics than Zelda
As someone who backed the game for $100, I can't express how excited I am for this game.
Patiently waiting for a Switch release….
When is Mina The Hollower coming out physical?
Release date????
The moment I saw Mina the Hollower it was an instant Day 1 buy for me: I am a sucker for nostalgia, and Mina draws from way too many old-school games to NOT draw me in😂
Is this game comeing to xbox series s ?

I bought Shovel Knight but haven't opened it yet. I'm horrible.😅

>Souls

What's wrong with Souls stuff? Dark souls itself was inspired by Zelda a lot

Looks like any other 8Bit indie game so no thanks
