I can’t believe this video only has 700 views. DIY Jim is the best! Thanks for sharing your knowledge brother! I’m definitely adding a cold air intake to my pellet stove in my basement this year! I never thought of it this way!! Love ALL your videos!!! Keep it up!!!
I have a p68 in my dog kennel. I replaced the vacuum switch a couple weeks ago. I think it was original cause the other switch was Harman and it had a 08 date on it I go back and forth between a pellet insert or wood stove for my house One reason I waiver to a harman insert is cause of drawing air from outside I don’t want to mess with pressure and risk drawing from the other parts of house and get the pressure built up so maybe it draws potential radon in through basement. I have a tolerable amount and doesn’t need mitigating, so I’m trying to avoid messing with the house pressure So I’m down with an OAK The pellet may make more draw into it I don’t know But I’ve been told the average mid to large wood stove shouldn’t draw more then 20-40 cfm So not a ton overall Love your channel. Helping mento understand my p68 and how to take care of it Much appreciated God bless you too sir
Hey Jim, great videos as always, ive been using my stove years with an oak hooked up i was a little skeptical at first but im glad i did it . I used flexible exhaust pipe to go from my p43 to outside worked good because of being flexible, i went to lowes & bought a outside dryer vent piece & cut out my vinyl side to attach, i only made whole for the size of the pipe dryer vent has a screen cover so containments cant get in . Hope this helps someone else a little bit.
diy JIM rocks! I wish I had learned this when i installed my p68 in my basement in 2010. Dealer I bought it from said i didnt need it. YOu could be totally correct on this jim about the cold air. Dont know. but since ive finished the wall behind the stove with designer stone. I aint cutting into that now! to add a oak lol
Warm air expands. Cooler outside air is always going to be 'pushed' out to a certain degree by your warmer, inside air. Depending on the size of the interior space, the relatively MINISCULE volume of your exhaust air output is likely to have a net zero impact on outside air draw from windows, door, bathroom/kitchen fans. I have a 3000+ sqft 40 year old house in dire need of an efficiency update. I've run both inside and outside intake. I get better performance running interior intake. More thorough burning pellets and better flame with lower fan settings.
With a cold air intake you create positive pressure to keep cold air from infiltrating into your house. Also the CO2 Levels are lower inside the house.
A good reason to have a outside air is that it can suck in the oxygen from in the room. Was warned about it from a stove installer it can happen where it can cause to suffocate you.
Question Jim, Would you have a video on the installation of the oak? I have a Harman P43 stove and I am considering installing one. There are not too many videos about this, at least good ones . Could you recommend a kit? Or make a video? Thank you for all the pellet stove videos you have made, they sure do help me.
Sorry I do not. The store I bought my stove from just gave me some flexible metal pipe. It works but it is not a kit. It just goes through my wall to the outside with a screen over the end so no animals go in. Sorry not sure of a kit you can buy.

I also thought it would get more views. I belong to a Pellet stove group on Facebook and I always see this question come up. Thanks for watching
