    To David and everybody else: if you want to stop the burn from the pepper, put a piece of bread in your mouth. The yeast in the bread absorbs the heat and stops the burning. No drinks: it makes it worse .

    This series is great but I wish you got introduced to a greater variety of foods. Doubles is my top street food so I get the urge to introduce someone new to Trinidad to our fave doubles spot, but jeezanages how much doubles you want to feed the man? There are so many other things in the Savannah and the Avenue to try instead of going back to the same things. He could have ended the night with a little corn soup or some bbq pigtail. Maybe he could have a few different Sunday lunch options at some point like pelau and coleslaw or macaroni pie and stew chicken and callaloo. Indo-Trini foods are incredibly tasty and need to be highlighted because they're an important aspect of our foodie culture, but some more Afro-Trini foods would have been awesome to highlight too. Especially if you're going to do repeat dishes and flavour profiles, you could have offered a new thing. Just my constructive criticism if there's an opportunity to show more stuff off.

    • @jasminespencer2872
      @jasminespencer2872 2 роки тому +1

      Very true
      It seems to me he enjoys doubles a lot and they developed friendships quickly, so some parts of the video give a liming kind of vibe
      So I don't think doubles everyday was a part of the agenda

    • @FBA-2023
      @FBA-2023 2 роки тому

      The chef is practicing group ECONOMICS that means buy and sell to your own kind. He is making sure his peeps all get a cut of the white dudes $$$$.

    • @ZariDV
      @ZariDV 2 роки тому

      @@jasminespencer2872 I can't blame anyone for enjoying doubles because I know if I could, I'd eat two triples every day with an Apple J and have me a good time doing it. On the other hand this guy is here to have an experience where he can explore cultural variety in the food and no matter how much you enjoy one dish, each time he eats could be an opportunity to try a new thing.
      Eg. if you know you're going to take him to a place to try trini sweets later one, let him try sugar cake there instead of eating it twice and take that as a chance to introduce him to the pomerac since he didn't know what the fruit was. It's just a little frustrating watching all of the missed opportunities when some of the same things get repeated. Like roti twice, doubles 4 times, sugar cake twice, etc. You could have a liming vibe over most trini foods since it's a liming culture we have in the first place. You could get that standing and eating an oxtail soup for example.

    • @ZariDV
      @ZariDV 2 роки тому

      @@FBA-2023 I don't want to think badly of the chef in that way because I'd like to think it's not something so gross as that. It was nice that the Chinese restaurant and Venezuelan restaurant and pork place got some shine. It is odd and a bit suspicious at this point though. I suppose I'll wait to see more as time goes. I'll wait to see what future videos introduce but if I have to watch this man eat yet another doubles or roti I swear to god. Like give him a little oil down or stew ox tail or dhal or something else.

    • @jasminespencer2872
      @jasminespencer2872 2 роки тому +1

      @@ZariDV Yep, I definitely agree.
      When I mentioned liming, I didn't mean those other foods aren't liming foods (any food can be liming food once it is served in a laid-back way).
      What I meant was, it seems as though they are just spending the whole day together (I've seen mainly 3 vids a day), they have specific things they want to cover but otherwise they are just eating what they feel for. That's what it looks like to me. I think they could have seized the opportunity better, decide to cut repetitive foods out but you live and you learn. If you look at the TT series playlist, you can get early access/preview to videos before he turns them private and then makes them easily visible to the public. There are at least 6 more videos, in them I saw stew chicken sandwich, fry chicken, bush meat, etc.

    • @toonmili03
      @toonmili03 2 роки тому +3

      @@yeetusdeletus1240 why do you think you can't speak standard English with a Trinidadian accent.
      No one has said he should speak broken English
      Jason does have an American accent at times in this video. He dips in and out of it. It is said in one of these videos that he spent some years in America, so maybe its natural to him. But it is offputting to some ppl when they hear Trinidadians do this accent thing when talking to a foreigner. I have seen Machel Montano do it too. So Jason is certainly not alone.
      Some ppl say its easier for foreigners to understand them. I don't know how true that is. I've been to France and I spoke ENGLISH to them in my Trinidad accent and everyone understood me... French people. No one in England ever asked me to repeat a thing. Went Australia and no one ever asked me to repeat a thing either.
      I just think Trinidadians are too impressed by Americans. There is nothing special about American accents. Our accent is a mixture of so many different things and is unique to us (except maybe Bahamian since they sound similar to us). Why are we so desperate to hide it when we are in front of other people.

    I don’t know why I’m so nosy but I’m a little disturbed that I don’t see him tip. In developing countries it just feels to me like we should endeavor to be extra polite guests and tip these vendors well for their beautiful food and service.
    I know he doesn’t show everything, and quite possibly tips well on his travels. At least I hope he does tip well on his travels. It’s important to be a good guest and make a good impression for Americans traveling abroad.

      Tipping everyone who serves you isn't common in Trinidad, from my experience it isn't the usual with street vendors
      Also it isn't common everywhere, including developing countries
      It is important to understand culture before you act because what may be positive for one may be negative for the other

      Personally, I have never seen someone tip a doubles man or another kind of vendor, I've seen it done in a sit-down restaurant though. It isn't an expectation.
      I can't tell you for the Caribbean.
      However, in some places in Nigeria, it is considered a disrespect (especially if the tip is big), and it's because of the same thing you said.
