- El testament d'Amelia played on a new Simon Ambridge Torres copy.
A nice opportunity for me came up the other day to try this new Torres copy made by Simon Ambridge. This was in a new church on Dartmoor that I played a recital in last year. Here are a few words about the instrument from Simon.
“A new guitar completed, after Antonio de Torres’ ‘La Invencible’ 1884. I am grateful to Jordi Franco Espada @soleraflamenca for giving me the opportunity to examine and measure this remarkable guitar in Barcelona in 2018, my 67th year- by coincidence the same age Torres was when he made the original for Federico Cano the Spanish guitarist, composer and collector. The primary woods for this guitar are aged close grained spruce and dark chocolate brown Brazilian rosewood, similar to the original. The silver cartouche on the head was engraved by Devon engraver Anthony Law- the monogram ‘FC’ for Federico Cano.
The machine heads on the original are almost certainly not the ones Torres himself fitted but more likely Spanish made replacements from the early 20th Century, so I decided to fit Rodgers @rodgertuningmachines Jerome style which I feel complement the guitar very well”.

There’s a huge number of solo guitar works that capture the magic and charm of the instrument, but so few do it in quite the same way as the Catalan folk song arrangements by Llobet! (IMHO)……great piece selection and playing to demonstrate that fabulous guitar. You buying it then? 😉
Thanks! It was sold before I got to it! 😊
Sounds heavenly... Thank you maestro!
Thanks for watching 🙏😊
Beautiful playing, Dave, on what is my dream guitar. Sadly, it will forever remain a dream, but such dreams are better than nightmares! Enjoy it.
Thanks Rob! One day.... One day.
The sound of the guitar is very beautiful, and the performance is also very affectionate. It's so beautiful.🥳
🙏😊
Very convincing Torres replica

Как же у вас прекрасно на канале .
Thank you for watching!
I’ve meant to ask, can you record one of your recitals and put it up on your channel? Would be nice to hear.
Nice idea!
Sounds lovely! Is it just the light shining on them or are those bass strings really white? A bit by accident, but I recently got into a long conversation with Wulfin Lieske. He just uses normal tension Savarez nylon strings (with a carbon for the 3rd) on La Leona (pitched a bit lower than 440 if I remember correctly).
Oh.. you'd have to ask Simon about the strings .. he's put this video out on his own channel. Hold on..

There you go!
@@davidjaggs Thank-you! On the close-up pics they just seem like ordinary nylon strings.
I think they probably were.... Don't remember them being strange!
Simon makes a sweet sounding guitar! Curious if he has made a bog oak guitar?
Oh, I've no idea!
I haven’t used it, although I do have a nice set. Who knows if I will make a bog oak guitar!
@@simonambridge5840 would love to hear that one! 🙂
I would also really enjoy hearing from this instrument, there is a sweetness to the tone that is hard to describe.
