Hi! I am currently in my first year of teaching while also completing my student teaching semester. What you said about the teacher prep. programs and their detailed lessons is right on the mark, which I believe is lending to my stress when it comes to lesson planning itself. Here is what I am truly struggling with: If I keep a lesson simple, does that also mean I am keeping the way I present information simple? I have been so used to creating dynamic and thoroughly thought out lessons, that trying to simplify and complete a week's lesson plan has become extremely overwhelming. Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi Annmarie! I don't think having simple lesson plans means that the lessons themselves can't be dynamic and thought out. Ultimately, find an approach that is most helpful to you, and that's what matters most! You can always test new approaches or make small changes as you go!

So, this video is spot on with what I am dealing with. I'm a new Social Studies teacher for 9-12 and struggling to get organized with my planning. I will be using a similar method as you put in here! Very helpful! I also struggle with setting limits in class....phones, bathroom, etc. But am ready to tackle this!

Any advice on the limit setting part?

I'm glad to hear this, Todd! The setting limits part is difficult, but I would defer to your general school policies on these issues so there is agreement between other teachers that students have and policies are consistent. In general, I was relatively lax about if students had to use the bathroom, as long as only one student was out at a time, and for a reasonable amount of time. I had a no phone policy, but that was with middle school students, and my perception is that they play a larger role with high schoolers. I hope that helps!

Hi Isabel! Congratulations on your graduation! This is very exciting! We have been well, and definitely shifted the types of materials we have created over the last year or so.
