That was because of it's shape in profile, i.e it was much thicker at the bottom than it was at the top, but that was only apparent when you viewed it side on from a distance due to the way the shadows fell on it's surface, that made it appear as though it was 'in front' of its surrounding rather than part of them, hence the 'fake look' and the references to it looking like a bit of CG.
Its most certainly not CGI ( I see where your thinking that form) , That was the first blade made by Siemens Gamesa in Hull, Currently I believe they are working on a wind farm in the north sea
