Wire, Rope, Strand, or Cable?! Do you know the Difference?

- I’ve designed a range of structures using tension from suspended sculptures to pedestrian bridges and larger bridges. A critical item to know is the difference between wire, strand, rope, and cable. Using the right one in the right application and with the right design approach can be critical to structural safety.
In this video I go through the differences, show you examples from real projects, and provide technical background and resources.
I'm Paul Kassabian. I'm a structural engineer and a Principal at SGH in Boston, MA. I taught graduate students at MIT for nine years and currently teach on/off at Harvard's Graduate School of Design (GSD). These are videos based on my structural design projects and years of teaching structures to students.
This man is a genius
Hi, I love your explanation. Please keep making videos like this. Thank you.
Professor Paul Kassabian I love it. your videos thanks to you I understand the structures I wanted to consult a book to understand the structures
Impressive, am looking forward to more of your videos. Gained more understanding.
Glad to hear it!
this was excellently helpful and a good video
This is the best! Learning constantly!
Thanks dude!!!
Thank you for providing a valuable information in such a short video
Glad it was helpful!
A lot of useful informations in little time. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
hi, thank you for the video (and the series), do you know any good university level course online (possibly free) on structures and statics?
I didn't know I didn't know all these interesting things.....
❤thank you
Thanks for the video Paul. Would you happen to know any good guidebooks etc. literature for wire rope designs? Details, connections, assembly kind of stuff?
❤Thank you Paul. I would also be interested in any guide books for wire rope design, connections, and assemblies. Bravo. William
I've watched your videos, but still struggle with identifying members in trusses, and what task they perform
I read the thumbnail and thought yeah of corse I know what they mean! How wrong I was haha but I do now! Great video
I have enjoyed for watched your video i am looking for a new video thanks
I build bridges for a living. Our engineer is retiring soon. we may need an engineer !
I hope you saw my ratio. Its structurally important
