I Like it, Wild Mountain Thyme" (also known as "Purple Heather" and "Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go?") is a folk song written by Francis McPeake, a member of a well known musical family in Belfast, Ireland, and of Scottish origin.[1] McPeake's lyrics are a variant of the song "The Braes of Balquhither" by Scottish poet Robert Tannahill (1774-1810), a contemporary of Robert Burns. Tannahill's original song, first published in Robert Archibald Smith's Scottish Minstrel (1821-24), is about the hills (braes) around Balquhidder nearLochearnhead. Like Burns, Tannahill collected and adapted traditional songs, and "The Braes of Balquhither" may have been based on the traditional song "The Braes o' Bowhether".
@@williamharwood6139 His family were Ulster Scots of Scottish heritage and he was raised singing the "Braes of Balquidder" with his family so I guess it is a part of his heritage.

Amyone in 2024😢🎉
Always. Erin go Bragh!
That is not just a voice....that is a gift!
Irish Tenors and Ronan Tynan sung it better. Bite me.
"I fucking love it man" Don't do this to me
Kinda like this cover I sing this song to my girl friend all the time she's English and am Scottish she loves ur evry time I do. It cheers her up when's she's sad
Yesss! Scottish song!!! Awesom❤️
lol no emotion, sounds like hes reading it off a music sheet.
Ok I’m totally into OG Irish music, I was going to pass on this! I’m glad I didn’t! Excellent cover!
I'm in love of jensen and ed sheeran's voice
Reminds me of VanMorrison and I’ve always loved his voice too👺❤️
Only Ed sherran could pull this off 👏🏼👏🏼💕my mums song💖😪
I think the verse should/could be
" My true love she belongs, with me and with no other
and i'll sing to her the songs to let her know i love her
Let us go lassie go ..."
This year my grade is graduating and our principal has done a lot for us and we were thinking of singing him this song at lunch. We changed a few words to make it fit and it’s really good I’m very excited I’ll tell you how it goes.
This was my first father daughter dance at my wedding ❤️ precious memories ❤️
He's wrecked that song!
This song's really important to me because my class used to sing it when we were in grade 4 and we sang it to the class who graduated last year witch contained some of my best friends, and now when ever I hear this song it makes me incredibly sad but it's a really beautiful.
I recently had to leave Scotland - my home for so long and the place I grew up. Hearing this song again - and by Ed Sheeran, just pushed me over the top :'/
I'm so happy he sang this. Beautiful song, for a beautiful voice. These lyrics always bring me joy.
OK I hear these beautiful Scottish and Irish songs I just love them. Ed sings them all so wonderfully
His voice is magic
Good singer mate but leave the song to the scottish
I just love this song and enjoy pretty much every version I've heard. Scott Tenant's is probably my favorite, but I really like Ed Sheeran's version, as well.
The lyrics and melody are a variant of the song "The Braes of Balquhither" by Scottish poet Robert Tannahill (1774-1810) and Scottish composer Robert Archibald Smith (1780-1829), but were adapted by Belfast musician Francis McPeake (1885-1971) into "Wild Mountain Thyme" and first recorded by his family in the 1950s.
the most beautiful voice in earth
Him and Boris Johnson uses the same hairdresser
Such a beautiful rendition of a song that I hold dear to my heart! :)
Why’s a gype like him covering a legendary Scottish song like this? Murdered. Stick to forgetful pop music.
personally think jensen sing this better. maybe I'm just being emotional because he sings this to his daughter
same here
Same
sedef keskin same here
Best sang by a Scot and it's a Scottish song, the Americans attempt at it sounds pathetic
The Corries"version is the best followed by Ed's.I couldn't even listen to
all of Jensen's version,it was so bad.
UGH!
Is mostly the fault of the recording itself - give it a shot again. Keep in mind he's not singing in a controlled environment like this.
How am I just seeing this!.... He makes me melt when he sings.......
It’s my school song. We have started the tradition of singing this since 1900.
hi from Scotland wee love ya
the corries version all the way
