I only recently found your channel. I live down near the S/W corner of Missouri. I love what you did to this piece. Very cool!
I had a dresser similar to this when I was a child. As an adult I never understood the need to anchor a dresser to a wall to keep it from tipping over as I climbed all over mine as a kid. Recently it just hit me. That thing was so heavy you'd have to put a jack under it to tip. Good old solid wood construction.

I just did a piece and tested for lead paint. It was positive for lead. Should'nt sand those MCM pieces. I would strip them.

I see the same wood grain that is on the "plastic top coat" on the wood underneath. Is this topcoat more of a plastic-y clear coat with some yellow tint? Tuning in from Las Vegas, NV. I am pleased to hear that SW has chalk paint. I am getting very weary of having to order paint and then hope that I like the color when I meet it in person.
I also went to your Etsy store. I do not know if they will allow you to post the photos of previous projects that have since been sold but I think that it may drive up sales. Someone can see a photo and ask you to do something similar on another found piece of furniture. The photos can be used to be inspiration and to show the public your skills.
Yes, it's super strange to me! Some sort of manufactured finish. I will do more research on it if/when I pick up another like it. Yes, I need to upload some of our sold stuff to etsy for reference. Just need to find the time! lol Cheers!

HUMMMM. This was strange to begin with then you pushed the envelope. Tooo cool. I am perplexed. It is so ornate. Very BoHO if you had to classify it, maybe? Props for being so unusual.

That’s not a plastic coating, it’s a faux finish. Can make any mismatched wood be a blonde cohesive appearance. Notice in the video that the grain underneath is the same after the sanding.

I am intrigued by furniture flipping! I would love to start but I am 62 years old. The things I am learning now I wish I knew in my 20's! How do you ship your furniture? Do you have to pack it or fo you have a company that you use? The amount of money that you make is fantastic!

Yes, thanks! Just didn't fit the end vib when it was stripped and it didn't seem like it would have had enough striations in it to draw the eye once it would have been stained. Thanks for watching!
It may be plastic on the top but if you watch the video, when you sand it down, all of the markings under the plastic on the real wood....match up to what you have sanded off. They are the heavist of heavy. I have some in an upstairs room and its too heavy and big to get down my stairs.

After all that hard work and beautiful result, how do you ship this to someone and ensure it arrives without damage? I’ve bought small items from Etsy, but never anything this big! Just wondered…and this piece is stunning. Kudos!
I don't really ship pieces. However, I when I do I usually hire a company that has wrapping included in the price. Lots of moving blankets, and plastic wrap!
The reason for the faux finish was to cover up that it was several boards glued together! Quality furniture usually had one board for the top, and they wanted to cover up that it was made from several boards that might not be perfect matches.
Actually cat, only in antiques do you see that. A single board will warp. Veneer to the rescue to give a beautiful wood top that looks like a single board.
It's not either or. I've see veneer pieces that are warped, I've seen 200 year old not warped. Matched grain / flip flop pattern veneers I don't think we're trying to convey solid. Though origin unknown. This form of white wash or pickled finish is interesting as it's the same pattern of wood underneath , why not just use any grain print . If anyone finds out let us know, 🤔 they had great mahogany grain formica enables back then , yep veneers like to hide those plank board that can have knots or slight spacing ( inspector #9 missed) 😉 Ethan Allen would have had at least 3 planks then it went several planks then 50-100 5 X 8 rectangles for a dresser then toned sprayed to blend / camouflage it ,
Different than most of your pieces that are all painted. I like leaving some wood minimally treated.

Hello! I've been watching you for a while now. I really like your videos. I'm a flipper want- to- be and have a MCM piece that was my mother's. I want to redo it for my daughter. I was wondering, how do you know if you need to prime it or not. I noticed you did the top only with the primer. Correct? Also, why the different sanders in your project and what is the difference? I have a belt type sander and an orbital sander. I know I will be using filler as there are gouges.

Just some creative criticism. The white paint and and stripes made this MCM dresser loose any Mid century style it had. I think a nice stain would have brought it back to it's respectable MCM style.

If you had decided to paint before you sanded, could you have scuff sand and then painted over that plasticy surface?
Hi Nikki, that plasticy wood was pretty yellow in person so that striped patterned may not have looked so good. BUT if I was painting all of it, yes a quick scuff would have been fine.
I’m a newbie at trying out flipping furniture. So far, I’ve done pretty good at selling. How do you know if and when you to do a sales and use tax ID?
Well, if you intend to do this as a business I would initiate that asap. even if you just register as a sole proprietor and not an LLC.
@@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture Thank you! Is the sales and use tax ID only thing I need to do this? I’m only doing it my garage and not selling online like Etsy or EBay. Right now, I’m just wanting to flip pieces of furniture that I buy to resell but have no desire starting out doing commission pieces. I’m not shipping furniture that I sell. I only want to currently sell locally via marketplace. Right now, I want to start off small to see how it goes. Your story to financial freedom, has inspired me to try this for our family.

Did you say that you used SW chalk paint? I ask because I don’t think they have a chalk paint. Do you add to the latex paint to make it a chalk paint? It is a beautiful piece and very well done just wondering about the paint. I love SW for my walls.
They sure do! You can order it in any color. Most stores carry it but it is only in their stores not in like a big box store that also happens to carry SW paint. I plan to mention it next week bc I get tons of questions about it! Stay tuned!

Found this 6 months later from a short ? Lol wonder how same print landed on actual veneer pattern, why not a repeat a print pattern on blank wood to save veneer and a step ( truly don't know 🤔) anyone ?
hello! I can answer that one! Because the wood used under the veneer is usually very cheap and not attractive looking. So when you have a factory pattern on top of a veneer it looks more expensive than the cheaper stuff underneath.
