Hi Lucien, not sure if we've fully got your question, but let us comment on this. There are four default folders every newly created Session consists of: Capture, Selects, Output, Trash. Capture folder is the default one. If you wish to move the image to Selects, you can either right-click on it in Browser -> Move to Selects folder or just drag and drop it there. Deleted files go to Trash. Use the shortcut or just drag & drop unnecessary images to that folder.
Thanks David, crucial webinar. A big improvement of the workflow, to simplify it, would be to name the session folders by adding the name of the session when we create a new session: Capture_SessionName (eg Capture_2302Geneva), Output_SessionName. Avoiding to import in another Capture folder, which is frequent when I forget to either reset it or specify it through the Import process… And simplifying further steps, such importing a specific Output_SessionName folder - with its light and final jpeg (I export few TIFF after soft proofing into specific folders for printing) - into my main Catalog.
Thanks a lot for the webinar. If i'm not mistaken, a part of the selection process has not been explained. If you want to use the four original files created with the session (capture, selects, outputs and trash) the way they are intended, and not the session favorites folders, how do you move the pictures from Capture to Trash or Selects ?
When I hit the button "new session", I first get a list of recent session names. Is there any chance to clear the list? Or at least certain names? It is quite irritating that session names are listed which no longer do exist. Support could not help or seemed not to be interested in this...
Could y'all add another real-world scenario to the tutorial pipeline? We just got back from safari. 14 separate morning and afternoon photography activities. Seeing the same animals across the activities (eg, Elephants on multiple days, hippos on multiple days, a leopard just once, etc), and only wanting to process the top 3-4 images from each animal grouping. 21,000 total images shot over the 7 days. Up to 4,000 images per "activity" to cull through. We did have time between activities to download images from card to SSD, but LrC imports literally took hours, so I am moving to C1 (or back to C1), I hope. I am thinking of one big session, with albums (favorites?) for each activitiy. Day 1: Evening, Day 2: Morning etc. (this is how I remember best what we shot.) I don't know if one big session can handle 20k images or is a catalog a better option. Or do we have to break it into smaller blocks and lose the ability to group? Thanks in advance for any guidence.
I haven't ever used sessions yet, so this was very informative. Is it possible to process images in a session on a laptop (when travelling) and then transfer the processed images along with all the related settings into a catalogue on my main desktop computer? Thanks in advance
Using the Importer button in sessions you end up with a "recent's" list of which some are totally irrelevant to imports that one may be doing in the future. I find the tool doesn't reset to my last import location and sometimes defaults to a folder that doesn't exist anymore. So how do you clear this list and start fresh? I've tried resetting the tool but that doesn't do it and I've searched C-1's site for an answer to this and cannot find one. Thanks.
Hi Barry, Are you talking about Import To or Import From? We'd appreciate having this issue reported in order to go ahead with further investigation. Could you submit a case at captureone.co/support? Screen recording and logs will be highly appreciated.
Noticed one thing with DocumentName token. It adds the name of the FOLDER in which the session database resides, not the name of the DB file. For example I recently did a shoot and Session name was WVC-Stock, however the folder is 2022-02-28-WVC-STOCK - all of this was added to the filename
Hi Max, I've just tried to test that, and Document Name token worked fine, so I'd kindly ask you to send us a support request at captureone.co/support attaching a screen recording of the issue, so that we can better understand what's happening on your end. I'll take care of your case once submitted. Helen.

I'd like to know how you organize the session favourites and smart albums, such as putting them in alphabetical or such after making them. They just seem to be made one on top of the other as they are made with no rhyme or reason to the order and this wasn't brought up. I tried dragging and dropping but that does not work. Thanks
@@CaptureOne Just tried again on PC and the albums can be rearranged by grabbing one and moving it up or down the stack but the favourites can't. Seems one can and the other can't.
I can't find a satisfactory answer anywhere... How to combine the flexibility of sessions and the practical side of catalogs to find photos according to certain criteria but belonging to different sessions/years/places (based on keywords for example)
Hi, I have a question... Every time I move a session from one hard drive to another and delete the original it deletes all the files/adjustments in the session that's been moved. How do I stop this from happening? Whats the correct procedure when relocating a session from one place to another and deleting the original? I have a on location/working SSD I use for tethering and after the shoot I like to move the session to backup hard drives. PLEASE HELP!
HI Scarbz87. That's exactly the right way to do it. The only thing I can think of is if you don't have the tethered images you have shot as part of that session? i.e could they be going elsewhere?
At about 42 min, you were able to filter with just a keyboard shortcut (Com+7, for green), how is that happening. Can't replicate. Looked under Keybaord Shortcuts.... Would love to know. Thanks
For some reason on my AppleTV UA-cam app, there’s no audio until almost 5 minutes in, at which point the audio starts from the beginning. No other videos are doing this, so odd!
I have seen this before on Apple TV. I trim the front of the video after it’s been uploaded and for some reason the Apple TV version takes a while to sync up. I imagine if you try later it will be OK.
Can someone explain to me why the following happens when I use the Exporter. I change the size of the recipe panel to "Auto" but when I open it the next time it defaults back to medium, this happens every time I use the Exporter. And, when I collapse some of the panels at the bottom such as metadata and watermark (I don't use them each time) when I open the Exporter the next time all the panels have been expanded with exception of Summary. On top of that when Exporter is opened again the side bar slider is on the bottom not the top so I have to slide this up manually each time because it defaults to see the Metadata tab because as mentioned above the Summary tab collapses even if it was open when the Exporter was closed down. This happens every time I use the panel. Thanks.
Hi Barry, it looks like some investigation is needed here. Please reach out to support at captureone.co/support sending them a screen recording of the behavior and the mentioned details.
@@CaptureOne If I do that it will be the third time this month I've submitted a support case due to bugs and glitches. Quite frankly I'd rather spend my time editing photos. Capture One is touted as "professional" software, how do professionals deal with this? I've used Capture One for many years and watched this Livestream to find out some tricks of the trade so to speak. I've always just dumped my images into the Capture folder and then after editing used the old export tab to export. The more automation I'm exposed to on these Livestreams the more bugs and glitches I'm finding. Is the software not tested before release? I'm finding myself more and more disillusioned with the program.
If you make zip-files of a session, will you then save storage space on an external hard drive, compared to a catalog? Is it safe to store sessions as zip-files?
You can compress Sessions via Zip, but if it's a large session it would take a while, but perfectly safe. Wether that saves storage compared to a Catalog I would say is negligible. The Zipped session would contain RAW files, Previews and Adjustments, which would be of a similar size to an equivalent set of images in a Catalog. Zipping and Unzipping I would say is inconvenient compared to increasing storage capability.
Chapters have been added to this Livestream so you can skip ahead to relevant parts. Hover over the playbar for Chapter titles.
Thanks again David. I learn something new with every one of these that I watch on Sessions and Catalogs!
Great to hear!
Thanks David. Has convinced me to use sessions from scratch, which I hadn’t been doing.
Glad to hear it!
super tuto, complementary with the Livestream tether one.
