My favorite photos this year were of the anthers of Christmas Rose. A home project. I illuminated the scene with LED torches diffused with printing paper. My magnification was about 12x in full frame terms and the focus stack were 300ish. The results were stunning. I was using the OM-1 with the 900mm macro at 4x full frame, a 1.4 teleconverter and a Ranox. Oh, at that magnification I use a geared head as it is near imposible to frame the shot accurately by manipulating a ball head.
Good lord, 300 frames! You have the patience of a saint! Sounds like a great setup though and nice thinking using the printer paper as diffusers -- I love these kinds of diy hacks!
@@AndrewLanxonPhotography The 300 focus bracket frames are taken in Camera. I think for the lighting conditions that took about 30 seconds to capture the images. The images are 20MP and my PC is quire quick so the staking in Helicon took about 1-2 minuted ro process.
Great vid. Questions for you, 1. New Epson Printer? 2. I thought you moved to the Good AD100? 3. How come you didn't use the R5 internal focus stacking capability?
Hey Gary thanks for watching. 1: I'm just testing a few models before sending them back. They're really in the way! 2: I have both, this is just the one I grabbed first but it makes zero difference for this sort of shot. 3: the internal focus stacking function on the r5 doesn't work with flash, and when I only need a handful of shots like this it's easier to do it manually. I use the auto function for stacks over 20 images.
I hope that you’re feeling better soon! I enjoyed this video and really like your indoor videos, so I am always happy to see these. What is the set-up you have going on with your tripods? Is it some sort of garage/workshop tool holder? My house flooded and my photo studio is getting rebuilt and that rack is something I did not know I needed!

I’m undertaking a similar project. I found that using a flat bed scanner is the most efficient way for me personally to capture digital images of old photos which I can clean up in Photoshop.
Hi Peter, my brother did something similar recently and he used a flatbed scanner, as MorrisGentry8624 suggests here. From what I know it is far more efficient with better looking results than photographing them and there's software that helps automate the process I believe. Having never done it myself I can't suggest any specifics but I'm sure there are plenty of good tutorials on Google for this.
Great exercise with awesome results, noticed you were manual focusing at different focus planes as opposed to using auto focus bracketing, do you have a preference for manual?
Do the same as he does with the flash. Use a diffuser if you need, reflect the light back if you need. Experiment! I think you will get some nice pictures. 🙂

Any tips for someone who doesn't have a flash but does have an LED?
