This was posted 2 years ago, but I want to offer a solution I'm using with interchange circular needles. I put one of those screw-on stoppers on the end of the needle and cable I'm using for the project and I use the other needle with another cable that I'll remove after casting on. If you're using fixed circular needles, going for the needle that's twice the size of what you need is probably the best. Or having two of the same fixed needles.
I used to knit when I was a child! And it totally happened to me! I love knitting! Calms me down as I am watching this!
