This reminds me of my own game project that's based on a very flawed older game, but there was a kernel in there that spoke directly to me. With my project being based on that game's concept, it gives me a clear north star while allowing me the freedom to cut out what doesn't work and gives me room to improve and explore those ideas. A lot of people copy the newest hottest thing, but the past has so much good material. For instance, The Binding of Isaac's gameplay is the NES Legend of Zelda through the lens of a rogue-like and the combat of Smash TV. Anyways, this video struck a chord for me; I wish more devs can look down on the shoulders they're standing on and appreciate their contribution(s).
You are putting into words all the love I've had for this game in a very professional manner. You have such a smart analysis and perspective, you deserve so much more love and recognition yourself
Giving games that failed or had good ideas but just didn’t hit the mark a remaster or remake is a great idea. Kinda half surprised no one thought of it sooner but corporate companies will continue to corporate so what’s new? One remaster that I’m really looking forward to, assuming it’s still happening, is that of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. It is one of the first video games I can remember playing and one that I think could stand among titles like Crash Bandicoot with how similar it is with a few touch ups. Also, in case you missed it on your last video, (I think it was ur last video I commented on) I would love to see what your thoughts are on Inked: A tale of love. I played it recently and wow! Talk about art. It’s short but beautifully crafted and has a powerful message that I think is integrated very well. I think you’ll find plenty of heart in it. Just a suggestion anyway.
Croc is a great example of a game that could just use a touch up; it's pretty good already, but smoother controls would make a world of difference in making it more playable as you really have to fight with them from start to finish as is. Hopefully they don't overdo it and just give it that small touch up rather than completely overhauling it. Sorry I missed your last comment, I've been trying to read the comments less often lately so I'll probably miss stuff like that again in the future. Anyway, never heard of Inked: A Tale of Love but it looks really neat and I love that artstyle! I'll check it out as soon as I get a chance; good find!
Interesting video! Never thought much about the Zelda CDi games, except for all the memes and YTPs of course but this video convinced me of their charme! A game I'd like to see re-imagined in some form is Trip World - it's a small title released on the Gameboy with really charming graphics and great music but it's interesting core mechanic of shapeshifting into different forms really suffers because of it's subpar level design.
Yeah, check out the Zelda CDi remasters, they're a lot of fun actually if you know what you're getting into. Never heard of Trip World but it looks really neat! Gonna have to check it out!
"Now, normally, I don't like it when retro games are overhauled to feel more modern as most of the time I think this takes away a key aspect of what makes the games interesting in the first place." *smirks* Your next line is "Demon's souls didn't need a remake"
The one game I would love to see get an official remake/remaster would be Sonic 06. It has potential to be one of the best sonic games. It'll probably never get an official one, but thankfully there is a fan project that is looking very promising. I'll have to give Arzette a shot one day, I've seen it around but I have been kind of hesitant to pick it up. Your review managed to make me curious though.
I loved my playthrough of Arzette. It was not only funny, it was also quite addicting! So happy someone took the good parts of Zelda CDI and made a game for them!
Arzette has some slightly bland cut-scene animation, it feels un-ambitious compared to the cdi game. there was a illustration language that was common in the the cdi era that isnt common in modern day artists, the way the artists in Zelda cdi used their lines to describe their characters is so unique to anything that is produced today same goes for the character movement. i can see where the artists behind arzette made a slight effort to mimic this but i think it falls short. it also looks like they used 3d models as a short-cut since most of the ambitions animation looks like it was roto-scoped. think of it like when a western show fails at trying to draw "anime style" but in this case the results are better making the shortcomings a lot more subtle. what irks me the most is anyone thinking "this is just like cdi animation". its no cuphead, its more gimmick-y even if its not entirely a gimmick. if its not supposed to be a homage then they could just be bad artists, i'm not too keen on either of these outcomes.
💗What are some failed games of the past that you'd like to see remade, remastered, or re-imagined? Subscribe I guess.
Superman 64. No joke, I played it ironically at first, but then literally started to genuinely love it.

What's the music in On Video Game Remakes and Remasters section
