Because that's his friend and it goes against all logic, which if used, would have him disagree with Malik's position.
It's interesting those who support homosexual behavior, transgender, etc..give the reason to support it by that person's talent whether it involves acting, singing, etc...or how this person is character-wise (great person, generous, nice, etc..). Interesting that is a red-herring that is spoken out loud, when no one who disagrees with their behavior points to talent/character as a reason for their disagreement with that person's sexuality, it's mainly because it's unnatural and against nature.
