Last night was absolutely wild and I wanted to post a short video as a tale of what happened to me.
A solar storm (CME) was starting to develop around Earth, which could potentially bring big auroras at our latitudes. Unfortunately, the weather did no look great as a humongous polar low moved towards Tromsø from the sea. I saw on the map that there should be clear weather towards the mountains, so I hit the road anyways.
After driving 2 hours, I realized the weather forecast changed yet again for the worse. So I decide to go to another location called Dividalen near in the interior. I wait there for about 2 hours and it just won't stop snowing heavily. After 3 hours of waiting, a good friend of mine stopped by with his workshop group and we waited together. Not 5 minutes later, a gap appears and we can still see the moon and a bit of aurora while it still snows (first sequence), so I decide to take a slo-mo sequences of that (120fps) at ISO 102K!!
As we wait a bit longer, more gaps appear and the aurora explodes a first time to engulf the whole sky in a green blanket. Very nice! At least, we didn't wait for nothing!!
But as I saw the fainter, yet more colorful (red) pillars starting to advance southward, I knew we were going to be in for a bigger show, and so I tell everyone else to just wait and keep watching that band in the south. As we start getting even better colors, we set the cameras into the woods, oriented south- 5 minutes later, the aurora started to form huge pillars, so everyone starts to get absolutely excited. 'Red with the naked eye!!!' Bernard shouts! And yes, you could see red forming on top of the aurora despite the bright moon! So I took a long clip to record this, as it takes about 107 seconds for high altitude oxygen to emit a red photon after being hit by a precipitating electrons, and it is the first time I record it on tape!
What a night!

Hahaha oui c'est ca :) Pas de soucis!
Which lense did you use?
Red auroras once a rare sight, now common every year.
Is the sun more active?
No.
As a matter of fact the solar cycles gave been getting weaker since the 80s
Not one article on this will mention the established fact that the magnetosphere is weakening.
