It all just seems a bit much. Just to give an example, the curved wooden ceiling of the light scoop above the ceiling makes some sense as a light modulator, even if it is a bit derivative of Jorn Utzon, but why extend it, if not just for graphic effect, into the next bay above the dining room? The concrete beam ensures that there is no continuity of daylight, so the architect has installed a linear up-light to reproduce the effect of modulated daylight, by artificial means. That's both excessive and sort of lame. As I see it, a similar spirt of faux humility and directness runs through the house - it's very much like the work of Tom Kundig in that sense (and yes, I meant that in a very negative way.)
The house is beautiful and all but I would like to kudos to cinematographer and editor. Incredible cinematic shots.
